...Since I am not currently in a relationship, I will reflect on my most recent relationship. We were together for 3 years and produced memories that will last a lifetime. As the saying goes “All good things must come to an end”. My memory of our relationship will always be a permanent staple in my life. The stage where the relationship ended was the termination stage. We decided to end the relationship to give each other the space we both were seeking. 1. Initiation – We met through a mutual friend at a restaurant on her birthday. I often told her I was the best birthday present she ever received. After a few cocktails, we engaged in deep conversation ranging from the weather to family. She was a breath of fresh air. We immediately “kicked it off”, we discovered we had the same taste in music and both had a passion for sports. Although it was her birthday, I was the one who received the gift. 2. Experimenting – Reflecting on my relationship, I found this stage to the most fun. This is where I was trying to impress her every time we spent time together. I will always acted on my best behavior and tried to think outside of the box to form a good impression. This stage is where the most flowers were sent, where the restaurants were tested and where we really enjoyed each other’s company. It was an adventure every time we met because we never knew what to expect from each other. 3. Intensifying - “Bri” and “Dre” were the nicknames we used for each other...

...winning state possible. Pushing ourselves to the limit through these times had never meant more to the team. Using Victoria as our will power we paved a path to great accomplishments. The team started off the season great with twenty new cheerleaders. Our ability in all areas had never been better. The thought of winning the State title ran across our minds constantly. We pushed ourselves to the extreme everyday to become better. Working long hours through sweat, blood, and tears made us come together as one, until something devastating happened that we never could have dreamt. The news of Victoria’s accident put our dreams to a sudden stop. This was our dead end. Not all things that end successfully have a perfect path. True character shows when the odds are against someone, that’s when kids show who they are within. My teammates and I learned this lesson when we lost Victoria. It felt like the world had been put on pause; I have never felt this feeling in my life. Losing my best friend and teammate put all my hopes and dreams to an end. She was such an important part of me and our team. We never thought we could get passed this tragedy. For days we all wondered, “How could we get pass this?” How could we make things better again?” That is when our coach, Mrs. Hodges, brought our hopes and dreams back to life. She told us, “I know it is hard to go on. I think about her every day. We have to have faith. God will get us through this in the end. We have to win this title for her...

...I've been trying to write this for days. Actually I've been thinking about what I was going to say today all season and I still can't seem to write it. I can't put into words how much it's all meant to me and by writing it it's like saying a final goodbye and I'm not ready to say that just yet, but I think its time to tell you guys how much not only myself, but everyone here appreciates the support given from our family and friends over the years while letting us play the game we love. Because of this opportunity, I have learned life lessons in the “nontraditional classroom” that high-school sports represent. I learned what dedication and commitment means, but also experience the fun that comes with it…Moments like the 10 minutes in the locker room right before a game following one of Hastings motivational videos or Lisa talking too fast for any of us to understand, trust me its harder than you think. Playing with these girls might just be the most fun I’ve had throughout all of high school, they’ve become my family not only because I saw them more than I did my actually family. It’s not only fun for us, but you all know its a form of entertainment for our parents too when Fred comes in disguise hoping he doesn’t get thrown out. Anyways, everybody says playing sports builds character, but more importantly, playing sports reveals character. We wouldn’t be who we are today without this game. You could say that we had a bit of a rocky start, and it would've been easy to just give...

...This story today is called "A Pair of Silk Stockings." It was written by Kate Chopin Little Mrs. Sommers suddenly acquires fifteen dollars, which seems like a large amount to her. Feeling important and wealthy, she considers how to invest her money, feeling that she must carefully spend the money. During the night, she thinks of a sensible use for the money. She determines that she should spend a dollar or two extra for Janie's shoes, so that they will last longer and be of better quality, and she plans to buy some fabric for her children's clothing. After that, she will still have enough money for new stockings and hats for everyone, which pleases her because her children will have new clothing for the first time in a while. Mrs. Sommers used to have more money long ago, before her marriage, but she does not worry about the past or the future, focusing mostly on the present. Mrs. Sommers is used to cheap purchase, but today she is tired and forgets to eat lunch. While sitting on a stool to rest before her shopping, she realizes that her hand has brushed against a pair of two-dollar silk stockings. She continues to feel the splendid fabric and asks the shop girl for a pair in her size. After choosing a black pair of stockings, Mrs. Sommers buys them and goes directly to the ladies' waiting room to change. For once, she abandons thinking about responsibility or about why she is so satisfied at her purchase. She sits in the room for a while, reveling in her stockings...

...amongst all her peers and goes noticed by only the group of friends she feels secure around. She tends to keep to herself because the thought of new people terrifies her. There are secrets she keeps, deeper than an underwater trench. One distance day will her eyes finally be opened, and it’ll be revealed to her the way others truly see her. Ophelia sits in her room. The walls are painted nothing but the plain shades of white and black. It may come off as the stereotypical room of a teenage girl with only a glint of herself shining through. Her friend Josephina lies on the bed snug as can be as Ophelia talks. Ophelia’s delicate hands slowly unfold like blooming Easter lilies as she whispers the stories of her covered up past. Her beige lips moved as she would stop and start, hesitant to finally reveal the secrets she’s kept so far away. This is the exact moment that Josephina finally realizes one thing quietly inside herself. This is the exact moment that they aren’t just friends hanging out for the first time outside of work, but they’re now best friends. It was from this exact moment that Josephina began to think of Ophelia in a new, inexperienced way. She enjoyed listening to her friend’s rich, full voice that left her ears ringing. When Ophelia would begin to laugh faintly, trying not to wake her parents, at one of her corny jokes, Josephina would hear it like grand music that only gets stuck in your head. The night went on and Josephina couldn’t help but notice all these...

...All good things come to an end. But, sometimes only to make way for great things. I miss you Atlanta friends and family. I think about you often as I pave my way along new terrain. I am thankful for the southern heat. My introduction to Indian food. My amazingly strenuous graduate school education that re-taught me suffering is often worth it. My intense teaching experience at Eaton Academy. Juggling five separate courses was a serious hazing. I am thankful for twelve years spent with my brother and his adorable family. For the long walks around the Highlands. For my break-in experiences with getting laid off, meeting horrible men, living in boxcar size apartments, and taking care of myself in a strange city. I have enormous, humble gratitude to fate. The gods telephoned me in Seattle, hinting I'd find BIG love in the city with the most traveled airport. Thus, I hitched my way across country, just in time to meet him. OK. Not exactly. But, I still made it to ATL within six months of my husband (a total stranger back then). Thank you gods. Thank you, Atlanta, for teaching me I would rather live up north after all, despite my lifelong fantasy that the south is my home. You are more of a siren for me, in truth. (No offense). I get caught up in the mossy trees and ghost stories. In the sweet tea and homemade grits. No one provided me with wax in the ears, however, and for that, I am relieved. I picked up a part of myself that had stayed behind in my journey out west...

..."Bad stress, good stress" in about 150 words. Text two. Bad stress, good stress by Sacha Bonsor is an article that deals with the issue of coping with stress. Stress is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand, it can be caused by both good and bad experiences. Sacha Bonsor starts off be saying that stress has become a too common word and an overrated term in modern language which she highlights with the growing statistics over stress from the UK economy. The article also mentions ‘psychological flexibility’. This is a term increasingly used by academics and psychologists, to describe people who use their fearful situations for a constructive end. Some people tries to avoid stress in their lives, in some situations its damaging but it’s also vital to our health and well being. 2. Outline of the various stress-related problems. Stress is your body's way of responding to any kind of demand; it can be caused by both good and bad experiences. The least stressful jobs could be dinner ladies, unlike teachers who experience it daily in the class. “Mind and body this week”: Danger: “Stress at work” by Eilish O’Reagan. Eilish O’Reagan tells us about which jobs have the biggest stress hold and the lowest. The least stressful job could be dinner ladies, because they don’t interact with children the whole day, only during break times. One of the most stressful jobs is being a teacher, because they unlike the dinner ladies have to interact with children all day. Jobs...

...August 2013 When people hurt themselves lifting heavy things, it's usually because they try to lift with their back. The right way to lift heavy things is to let your legs do the work. Inexperienced founders make the same mistake when trying to convince investors. They try to convince with their pitch. Most would be better off if they let their startup do the work—if they started by understanding why their startup is worth investing in, then simply explained this well to investors. Investors are looking for startups that will be very successful. But that test is not as simple as it sounds. In startups, as in a lot of other domains, the distribution of outcomes follows a power law, but in startups the curve is startlingly steep. The big successes are so big they dwarf the rest. And since there are only a handful each year (the conventional wisdom is 15), investors treat "big success" as if it were binary. Most are interested in you if you seem like you have a chance, however small, of being one of the 15 big successes, and otherwise not. [1] (There are a handful of angels who'd be interested in a company with a high probability of being moderately successful. But angel investors like big successes too.) How do you seem like you'll be one of the big successes? You need three things: formidable founders, a promising market, and (usually) some evidence of success so far. Formidable The most important ingredient is formidable founders. Most investors decide in the...

...stages of ‘life,’ beginning with pre-natal development, and moving through infancy, the toddler state, early childhood, childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle age, and finally moving though observations in old age to gain a holistic scope of the human experience. Instead of approaching each topic in blind succession, this paper will demonstrate human development in a streaming, dynamic, more lifelike manner. ! Super-analytical research type folk start picking apart and studying, like lab-rats, human beings before they are even born. These pre-natal findings are compared along side average results to let the parenting humans know if their child to be will be ‘disabled’, ‘challenged’, a ‘failure to thrive’, or just ‘normal.’ Is it a good thing that we can look a wee bit into the future? Ever seen the movie GATTICA? If you have seen the movie, you’ll probably have a slight headache and swear never to watch it again, but you may also understand that a perverted future of scientifically/sociologically altered humans is to come. Not so much superhumans that can fly, etc. but a society that has weeded out the week, and is composed of only those who will positively succeed. Another video, THX: 1138 may also be of interest. In our society today, we are already effecting the overall composition of our population with our medical decisions. We decide to keep the old around for a long time and draw out their decline, we decide to give kids a better chance of...

...this a good thing or a bad thing, and is it likely to last? What aspects of your life have been the most conspicuously affected by technology? Has anything been made worse or harder in your life by the advance of computers? What about things that have been made better or easier? As an active duty sailor in the United States Navy, I can honestly say that technology is apart of my everyday life. Every morning I wake up to a digital alarm that rings on my phone. I schedule my appointments on a calendar on my laptop. I even plan my outings and trips all while using an application on my I Pad. All in all technology is very convenient, exciting, and it enhances the tasks that I need to accomplish everyday. There are however, aspects of my life that are not controlled or altered by computers or technology. A simple face-to-face conversation is something that cannot be replaced by technology. Sure there are applications like Skype and Face Time, that allow us to communicate over distances, both which I use daily. But the simple idea of a conversation between two people together is still rewarding. Another area of my life that remains relatively unaffected by technology is the fact that I am a drummer. I’ve been playing my entire life (well since I can remember) and the drums have ultimately stayed consistent in their design and purpose. There have been advances in the expansion of drums for example: electrics drums, drum pads, and computer simulated drums. All which are...

...about myself? Attitude? Work? Behavior? Personality? Perception? Attitude: I’m sensible, the backbone of any group, and believe that work comes before play. This is truly me!! I’m the one that goes in early to work and stays late to make sure that things get done, and are done on time. People know that they can depend on me. I’m the person with sticky notes on my desk and computer, so that I remember that I need to do this at a certain time, or remind my boss of a particular appointment. They know they can count on me. Work: I’m a planner, well organized, and dependable. This too, fits me like a shoe! I’m the one that two weeks before a mass mailing will be ordering in extra labels, tape, and updating mailing lists. I like to have my envelopes ready, so that all I have to do is insert and tape. I look ahead and what is coming down the road and plan my work and time accordingly. Behavior: I learned that I’m punctual, responsible, energetic, ambitious, and I have a strong sense of right and wrong. This is me to a T! I hate it when people walk into work late, or show-up for a meeting late. I still believe that people should put in a day’s work for a day’s pay. If I’m the manager, I will set a good example. I expect people to work, if they want to get paid. Personality: In the Meyers-Briggs test, I tested out as an ISTJ, meaning that I’m an Introvert, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging. Again, this is me! I’m an Introvert. I’m quite...

...Should youth 11 years old and younger be exposed to competition, i,e, scoring? Competition can be good for children. It can help children develop healthy attitudes about winning and losing. Children are not born with the natural urge to compete. This is a learned skill and behavior. Competition usually starts at about five years old. Competition can encourage growth and push a child to excel. Competition can also be very rough for a young child. There must always be a winner and a loser, but young children sometimes just can’t deal with losing. The question is, can a young child handle defeat and at what point do you no how much a child can take? Losing is a serious business, especially for a child who really wants to win. Winning, losing, or playing against others has little or no meaning for children under the age of seven. They are more concerned about the rules of the game and how the games are played. They often break the rules, because they can’t remember .By the age of eight, children can follow rules and understand what it really means to win or lose. In 2001, a survey was conducted by Sports Illustrated for kids. The survey found that seventy percent of children quit organized sports by the tender age of thirteen. They said that they were no longer having fun. Often this happens because referees, coaches, and parents are continued more caught up in the competition than the children. The focus should not primarily be on winning or...

... soon going to turn 19 in April. I am the middle child; I have an older brother and a younger sitter. I am very close to my brother even though we fight almost every day I enjoy his companionship. The first half of my life I was living in Belize City. Then we moved to Benque, my home town, which was a very hard transition but I’m use to it already. I come from a huge family which are scattered all over Belize and some parts of the U.S and that’s just my mom’s part of the family. My dad’s family is even bigger but I don’t have a close relationship with them and I don’t know some of them since his side of the family is so large. I am a person who adores dogs especially when they’re puppies. My hobbies include watching horror films and comedy. I enjoy listening to music because it makes me focus whether I’m cleaning or doing assignments. I like to travel and doing new things and going through new experiences. Recently I tried something I never taught I would do; it was about one week after my graduation. I along with my friends planned a trip to Bocawina. There I would scratch one thing of my bucket list which is zip lining. I was so nervous and when I arrived at the platform where they were going to hook me to the line I felt my heart would fly out of my chest any moment. Finally they pushed me off and I screamed my guts out but half way through it wasn’t so scary it was actually amazing. There were about 8 stations and every time it would get higher and the line was longer. The...

...required—you can go directly to Part 3 to see what my management principles are and how Bridgewater has been run. One day I’d like to write a Part 4 on my investment principles. If you are looking to get the most bang for your buck (i.e., understanding for the effort), I suggest that you read Parts 1 and 2, and the beginning of Part 3 (through the Summary and Table of Principles) which will give you nearly the whole picture. It’s only about 55 pages of a normal size book. Above all else, I want you to think for yourself—to decide 1) what you want, 2) what is true and 3) what to do about it. I want you to do that in a clear-headed thoughtful way, so that you get what you want. I wrote this book to help you do that. I am going to ask only two things of you—1) that you be open-minded and 2) that you honestly answer some questions about what you want, what is true and what you want to do about it. If you do these things, I believe that you will get a lot out of this book. If you can’t do these things, you should reflect on why that is, because you probably have discovered one of your greatest impediments to getting what you want out of life.
