In Victor Lombardi’s essay “Music And Censorship” he states his study that “using the value of art and the artist as a starting point, Lombardi shows how censorship is an attack against our right to pleasure-it is even an attack against truth: “a censored opinion, whether true or false, sidesteps conflicts and secures our distance in the truth” (201) My position is does the censorship to affect the art of musical artist and does it make it better than the mainstream music that isn’t? What about rock sticks out to you? Do you have any thoughts or examples on music censorship? Samantha: To me, good music means something that makes feel you what you couldn't before. Pleasure and joy comes in many different forms, but there is a secret spot in my soul that only music can touch. Yes I’m against music censorship only because one of my favorite bands called Foster The People made a phenomenal song called Pumped up Kicks and but was saddened to know that the band were not granted the same respect as the song was banned from ever being on MTV. I think that is just controversy, the music has nothing to do with drug, or sex but rather it creates an environment for people who like the music to dance and be themselves and to release their stress that might be taking place in their personal life by dancing the night away with people just like them. That is the thing that makes EDM and the reason why it hasn’t been banned because it serves a bigger purpose than its controversy, which I think is misconstrued. An example I have is "D.A.N.C.E." by Justice and it’s lyrics “The way you move is a mystery, Do the dance, You’re always there for music and me, Do the dance, The way you move is a mystery, Do the dance, You’re always there for music and me” the song has nothing to do with sex, and drugs and is just a song to influence people to get up, dance, and have
