The Shang kings claimed to be able to influence the gods. The Chinese people thought or maybe it was true but they were communicating to god with oracle bones. These were animal bones where Shang priests wrote or scratched on them a question to god. Paper was invented in China. Before paper was made, books were made of costly silk. The paper was made from olds rags, mulberry tree bark and fibers from the hemp plant. Paper was an important invention. It was made for keeping records of criminals or how much money they spend. It was paper and silk. They used to use silk for 3000 years to keep records of food, supplies, criminals, etc. After 3000 years or more, the Chinese invented paper. It was the greatest invention they had ever invented. How they kept their records were by Chinese writing. It was a really complex writing but it was simple for the Chinese. The system of writing used by the people in the Shang dynasty is very close to modern day Chinese writing system (symbols and characters for each world). To master this written language, it took many years to learn the specialized skills required to be able to recognized and write the several thousand characters.

The Environment:
Ancient Chinese culture was first made in hills, valleys, and really good fertile plains. The hills and the plains of China were the best way of farming. There are huge mountain ranges and deserts to the west. It changed how the Chinese developed. Two of the worlds longest and biggest rivers are found in china. The Hung He is the yellow river and the Chang Jiang is a Yangtze River.

Linking Both Paragraphs:
I think that technology and Record keeping go together very well because if the Chinese didn’t invent silk or paper their wont be any record keeping. They didn’t use silk for record keeping they used it for clothing. Also about specialized workers, if there weren’t any silk makers they wouldn’t be able to make silk or paper.

...Ancient Chinese fashion has some very big differences than what we have today. What they saw in clothing and beauty is very fascinating. Their clothing was very elegant, but what they did to be beautiful and to look nice was shocking. The Chinese are very good people who came up with their ideas of beauty. To start off with clothing, in ancient China, poor people had to make their clothing out of hemp or ramie while the rich wore silk. People often wore tunics, which are like long t-shirts. When women wore tunics, they were very long, down to the ground and they added belts. For the men, they wore short tunics that were down to their knees. In winter, the Chinese wore padded jackets over their tunics and sometimes pants under them too. During the Sui Dynasty (581-618), the emperor decided that all poor people had to wear blue or black on their clothing, and only rich people could wear colors. This was a rule because blue and black weren’t considered important or beautiful colors. Then, cotton was brought by the Mongols during the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368). At first, people didn’t want to grow cotton because silk was still too popular, and everyone wanted to continue getting silk. Often, most people in China had long hair, men and women. The Chinese believed it was very disrespectful and rude to cut your hair because it was...

Felix Strayer University Humanities 111 Professor Aprile Castagna March 05, 2013 ANCIENT CHINESE CONTRIBUTIONS 2 The Ancient Chinese culture was a very successful culture that created many inventions and contributed to the advancement of not only the Chinese civilization but also to the civilization of the world. According to Henry Sayre, the Qin Dynasty, which was said to exist from 221BCE until 206 BCE, was the first empire in China to rise to dominance; however, the Han Dynasty was given credit for the most Ancient Chinese contributions and inventions (Sayre, 2012). The Han Dynasty existed from 206 BCE until 220 CE, and during the Han Dynasty contributions and inventions by the Ancient Chinese included: the wheelbarrow, seismograph, paper, compass, map, glazed pottery, hot air balloons, and silk. While the Ancient Chinese made many contributions and inventions for the world, the four most useful are the wheelbarrow, the seismograph, paper, and the map.    Today the wheelbarrow is commonly used for farming, gardening, and construction work such as moving dirt, bricks, mulch. It is suitable for many jobs because it allows the weight of the contents to be evenly distributed between the wheel and the operator. For many of the same purposes...

...Ancient China was extremely advanced and many of its discoveries are still in use today’s world. Perhaps the Chinese has contributed more to the advancement of human kind than any other ancient culture. They have contributed to our world civilization’s achievements in the fields of agriculture, shipping, astronomy, printing, oil, martial arts, ammunition and mathematics. Ancient Chinese inventions such as gunpowder, silk, paper, printing, tea, wheel barrow, iron plows, deep drilling, porcelain, toilet paper and the compass were and still are important pieces of Chinese and global life. These inventions were major blocks in the building of the world as we know today. The four main innovations which I consider to be essential aspects of our contemporary lives are paper, printing, gun powder, and compass. Certainly the most important invention of Chinese culture is paper. The invention of paper was a great contribution to both the Chinese and the world civilization. According to Sayre, it was in the year 105 A.D during the Han dynasty, that the invention of the paper was first reported by Cai Lun. Paper made of hemp had been used by the Han for over 200 years, but Cai Lun improved both the techniques and the quality of the paper by using verity of materials such as, tree bark, hemp and rags. The basic principles of papermaking invented by Cai Lun are still in use today (Sayre, 2012, p.226). Before the invention of paper, characters were written on animal bones, turtle backs...

However, traditional methods cannot measure the ancient leaving rates, so a myriad of research attempting to provide explanations were met with unmatched magnitudes. In this paper we consider that the growth patterns on fossils could reflect the ancient Earth-Sun relationships. Through mechanical analysis of both the Earth-Sun and Earth-Moon systems, these patterns confirmed an increase in the Earth-Sun distance. With a large number of well-preserved specimens and new technology available, both the modern and ancient leaving rates could be measured with high precision, and it was found that the Earth has been leaving the Sun over the past 0.53 billion years. The Earth’s...

Tokugawa Iemitsu: An Analysis

...However, due to inter-temporal medieval relationships with Korea and China, the spread of Confucianism blended the Buddhist culture, and the two philosophies became dominant in the early Japan under Prince Shôtoku rule. By 728, Emperor Shômu under his rule had built six Buddha schools three of them in Mahayana and the other three in Theravada. Hangemann also in his narration finds that the initial Japanese religion was called Shinto or kami-no-michi, an indigenous belief that is found in the Japanese mythology that involved the worship of many gods (Hangemann 36). Besides, this doctrine is practiced in an extremely traditional manner that leads to people's’ assumption of a possible traditional norm than a religion. Moreover, the practices included sacrifices and offerings that constituted the ancient culture in the Japanese society. Different scholars have also found out through primary documents gathered from the Japanese history journal that indeed, kami-no-michi was the main ancient doctrine of the...

Standardized Testing: Its Impact on American Education and Society

...through the use of standardized testing. Its primary purpose for electing service officials in ancient china has led to its adoption in the U.S as a method for seeking improvements in the education system through testing students. However, holding schools and teachers responsible for annually increasing the average scores has shifted the curricula to teaching to the test, in addition to, putting the well being of both teachers and students at risk. Although standardized testing in the U.S. has been in place for over a century, its initial use is associated back to ancient China where the public was selected for jobs through testing. The purpose for standardized tests has always been to measure the knowledge and ability that one acquires. According to Osman Ozturgut, this purpose for testing was originally illustrated in 605 B.C, during the Sui Dynasty. Government jobs were administered to those with fairly high knowledge of Confucian philosophy. However, this would not guarantee a job. In addition to being tested on Confucian philosophy, they were also tested on “military strategy, civil law, revenue and taxation, agriculture, geography…” (3). Standardized tests were used as a method to give applicants with specific abilities the right job. These tests were very important in that it assured the government the competence of those selected for the job. The use of these tests in ancient China set the stage for its use all over the world. The decision for teaching children of all...
