The author states that some New Yorkers still can’t help thinking of as a 9/11 day. In particular, 9/11 is described as a glorious morning, a blue sky with wisps of clouds over Columbia University. This is an example of descriptive assumption because the author, Anna Quindlen, is describing her belief of what kind of day 9/11 was. It is implied that she does not think of a day of tragedy is a nice day with good weather. Also, the author’s perception of New York City appears to normally be pleasant.

Although I did not live in New York at this time I can share a similar viewpoint to the author. The world she lives in is one where people do not think for themselves instead they are being told what to believe.
The last descriptive assumption I found is: We have become a nation of conspiracy theorists. She provides a reasoning of the conspiracy that took place right under our noses that came to fruition on September 11. From the author’s point of view, she lives in a world where she does not feel like she can trust the people in our government. Her perspective of the world is clearly a world that is corrupted.

The reason that the writer gives to support this assumption is that our education system diverts away from conversations where we question if something is true or not. Students repeat what they already believe instead of learning new things and discovering different viewpoints of other
