CHAPTER I
ABSTRACT
The study aims to develop cheap but effective alternative antihelmintic medicines by using the extracts of garlic (Allium sativum) to stop the accumulation and to prevent the past growing number of gastro-intestinal and parasites such as worms. The garlic were collected and the extracts were obtained from its fresh crushed cloves. The extracts are being put into different containers and stored. The chickens will be treated orally with these garlic extracts. It was subjected to tests and to determine its effectiveness to eliminate gastro-intestinal parasites like worms in chickens. The fecal egg count test and observations are done. The results of these tests were compared to the standards of medicines in treating parasitic worms to prove that garlic can also be as a substitute antihelminthic medicine. Results and observations showed that the extracts of garlic has been found to have antibacterialacivity, it yields allicin as an antibiotic compound. The study also shows that the extracts from the garlic/ Allium sativum was comparable to those brands of antihelminthic medicines that serves as a vermicides to eliminate the helminthes.

CHAPTER II
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study Worms are all around us because of our unsanitary environment. We can accumulate many illness, infections and diseases if we are constantly exposed to worms, this situation is also the same with animals. Both animals and humans are affected by these parasites.

The body of humans and animals contains parasitic worms. It is commonly found in stomachs and intestines. There are wide varities of medicines to kill these parasites that is accredited by the Department of health, these medicines are not for free, as usual because it contains certain chemicals and ingredients that is rarely available to our environment. And for those who can’t afford to buy it, they used traditional/herbal medicinal plants in relieving symptoms of diseases and curing various infection. These medicinal plant has been the key for the survival of people who are in poverty status.

Like humans, the populations of worms are increasing. Therefore, the need to discover alternative medicines to treat parasitic worms also increases. These findings and reasons stimulate the researchers to choose and to attempt to study Garlic because it had been observed that it may not only be used as a food but also a medicine. The researches aims to produce cheap but effective way of killing and preventing the accumulation of parasitic worms.

2 Statement of Problem/Objective:
General Objective:

The study aims to determine the antihelmintic the antiheminthic effect of garlic (Allium sativum) cloves extracts. It is also to be hoped that this research will provide new antihelmintics effect that will circumvent the problem in antihelmintic effect or resistance of gasrtro-intestinal parasites.

Specific Objective:

1. The effectively of garlic (Allium sativum) cloves extract and commercial antihelmintics against round worms on chickens.

2. What is the best concentration of Garlic extracts, 100% or 80% is effective against different parasitic found in the body of chickens.

3. And to prove that garlic can stop antihelmintic resistance ability of some worms of gastro-intestinal parasites to survive from different antihelmintic medicines.

3 Significance of the study:

People nowadays ignores the importance of plants as medicines like garlic because of the modernized and parmacuetical medicines prescribed by doctors.

Due to the increase and high prices of medicines sold at the drugstore, people who have not enough money are forced or compelled to use medicinal plants to lessen the expenses. And it also affect on food production such as in poultry and livestocks.

In connection to the uses of medicinal plants , the result of this study will inform the people especially farmers or poultry raisers. It is both beneficial to humans and animals like poultry raising. It will reduce the expenses of poultry raisers in buying antihelmintic medicines for their chickens. The same is true with humans because it is readily available in our communities. Garlic will become as an alternative antihelmintic in humans and animals. And sooner or later, it can be an ingredient to other pharmacuetical medicines in curing and preventing parasitic worms.

Scope and Limitations: The area of this study includes only or it is limited to the antihelmintic effect of garlic (Allium sativum) fresh cloves extracts in chickens naturally infected with gastro-intestinal parasites. It focuses in the fecal analysis of sample chicken using egg counting device only three samples of the feces sample is up to four weeks only.

4 Review of Related Literature:

A branch of science that deals with parasites and their host is called parasitology. Parasites have different kinds, one of these is gastro-intestinal worms. These parasitic worms have broad classifications or kinds such as flat worms, nematodes, flukes, tape worms, and round worms. And antihelmintic medicines are needed to kill and to prevent the parasitic worms and one of this is garlic. Antihelmintic or anhelmintics are drugs that expel are used to treat infections of parasiti worms. Anti means to destroy or to prevent while helminthes are parasitic worms therefore the meaning of antihelmintic is to destroy and to prevent parasitic worms. There are wide varieties of antihelmintics drugs but expensive so many studies tired find new alternative medicinal plants and one of these is garlic. Allium sativum , commonly known as garlic , is a species in the onion genus, Allium. Its close relatives include the onion. Dating back over 6,000 years garlic is native to Central Asia, and it has been used throughout its history for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Garlic has been used as both food and medicine in many culture. Hippocrates, Galen and Pliny all mentioned the use of garlic for many conditions, including parasites, respirstory problems, poor digestion and low energy. Galen a philosopher said that it is the “rustics theriac” that means “cure-all”. In recent studies, garlic has been found to have antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal activity. Fresh garlic cloves show good anti microbial activity. It is used to prevent and to treat bacterial infections. Methods that involve crushing the fresh clove release more allicin. While garlic is a common flavoring in food. There is some evidence that fresh garlic, but not aged garlic can kill certain bacteria such as E. coli, antibiotic resistant staphylococcous aureus and salmonella enteritidis in the laboratory. Modern medicals discoveries has shown that contrary to medical opinion, numerous diseases are caused by bacteria or viruses of both. Garlic may be helpful in treating some of these diseases. Recently there have been a study that garlic is a promising antihelmintic alternative medicine because it contains allicin that has high antibacterial activity. The clove extracts of garlic will undergo various test to prove its effectiveness against gastro-intestinal parasites.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

* Materials and Method Three chickens are bought in the market. Feces samples are collected. Initial fecalysis were made to be sure that the three chickens is infected with gastro-intestinal parasites or worms. The three chickens are put into three different cages and labeled chicken A, B, and C. The feces were collected every two days for four weeks in a clean vial or a small container.

* Preparation of the garlic cloves The fresh garlic cloves were collected. These were weighted and washed thoroughly using clean hard gloves and place the fresh cloves on a jucer to extract its juices. The extracts of garlic is placed in two separated container. The containers were labeled 80% and 100% concentration.
* Treatment The three samples of chickens are gathered. The 1st chickens is treated orally using the 100% concentration using a small syringe or liquid dropper of extracted cloves of garlic. The 2nd chicken is treated orally with commercial antihelmintic for the comparison test. And the last chicken will not be treated of any of the concentration or medicine.

6

* Preparation Of The Samples(The Manures)

The feces were collected every two days for four weeks from three chickens. The collected feces were placed in a small clean container and bring to the laboratory for some tests. The egg worm count will be done to identify the effect of the garlic to the parasitic worms.

Fixed-Dose Combination Products vs Single-Component Products – Cost Comparison of Selected Oral Anti-Diabetic Produc

...Single-component products – Cost comparison of selected oral anti-diabetic products Introduction: Fixed-dose combination products (FDCs) are drugs which contain two or more drugs in fixed proportions in the same formulation. Fixed-dose combinations are becoming increasingly important because they offer several advantages to the patients. General advantages include lower costs of manufacture, improved patient adherence and decreased distribution costs. Advantages like increased efficacy and increased safety may be possible with certain cases. Combinations are being used in the treatment of various conditions and are specifically useful in the management of HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, diabetes and hypertension to name few. A few irrational combinations came to the market place due to certain loopholes existed in the drug regulatory system in India. Certain steps have been taken by Drugs Controller General of India to stop such irrational combinations. However, still the debate is on between the manufacturers and drug regulatory authorities. Objective: It is a general belief among the prescribers and other stakeholders of healthcare that FDCs are less costly than their single-component products. However, it cannot be generalised to all FDCs. The present study was taken up with an objective to find out FDCs which are costlier than their single-component counterparts. For which certain oral anti-diabetic drugs were selected and studied. Methodology: Data was collected...

Ankle

...Inversion Ankle Sprain SNAP, CRACKLE, POP! We aren’t talking about the cereal either, but rather the sound of a possible inversion ankle sprain. It is common in sports like football, soccer, and basketball. Injury occurs when the foot is all of sudden forced into inverted past what the ligaments are able to go or in other words excessive inversion and plantar flexion. As a result it may cause ligaments like the anterior talofibular ligament (ATF) and calcaneofibular ligament (CF) to tear. Like most joints, there are ligaments which restraint the joints from moving a certain distance. The ATF and CF are the main ligaments in the ankle which restraint inversion movement to a certain extent. Classification of inversion ankle sprains is done by being classified by grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3. Grade 1 is considered to be mild stretching within the ATF with little to no swelling, point tenderness, and minor pain. Grade 2 is considered to be slight tear of ligament, pain, swelling, point tenderness, possible disability, and possible loss of function. Lastly, there is grade 3 ankle sprain which is considered slight ligament tear, pain, swelling, point tenderness, disability, and loss of function. Treatment: Common treatment is to RICE, which stands for rest, ice, compress, and elevate. You should apply ice for no longer than twenty minutes on and the twenty minutes off. You should repeat this process as much as you can within the next twenty four hours to help reduce swelling...

...1. Why are drugs classified in the categories they are? Drugs are classified by the area the drug effects or its particular effect on the body. For example, if an individual has a headache they typically use one of two things, either a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) or a vasodilator. Ibuprofen is a NSAID and is used to treat inflammation, which could be a cause of a headache. Aspirin, however, is a vasodilator and is used to open the blood vessels to allow more blood and oxygen to get to the brain. 2. Give a description of the actions of drugs in each category. Cardiac Medications – These drugs are used to stabilize the heartbeat or used to lower and control high blood pressure. Anticoagulant, Antiplatelet, and Thrombolytic Medications – These drugs are used to thin the blood apart to break up and prevent blood clots. Analgesic Medications – These drugs are used as pain relievers and most are over-the-counter drugs. Antihistamines and Endocrine Medications – Antihistamines are used to block the immune system response in allergic reactions, such as hives and swelling. Endocrine drugs include insulin, which lowers blood sugar, or glucagon, which raises blood sugar. CNS Medications – These medications are used to control problems with the brain, generally mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or other mental disorders. Pain Medications: the Way We Cope

...Pain Medications: The Way We Cope All of us have lived with pain sometime in our lives. We would all like to have a magic pill to take all the pain away, but in modern medicine there isn’t anything like that. There are several different types of medication that can help. Depending on the pain severity, medications vary from your nonnarcotic analgesic drugs which include (salicylate analgesic drugs, nonsalicylate analgesic drugs, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and narcotic analgesic drugs. In the following paragraphs I am going to explain the pain medication I am on for my Rheumatoid Arthritis which is Tramadol. Another name for it is Ultram and it falls under the category of a nonsalicylate analgesic drug. When you are in pain, the one thing you want is the relief to be fast. Tramadol delivers. It has been on the market for years, offering fast relief to moderate to severe pain. How come it is so effective? It is because it is a synthetic form of the more powerful opiate drugs. This gives you most of the pain relief without the side effects. Tramadol works by having your body change the way it senses pain. It does this by inhibiting your neurotransmitters norepinephrine and serotonin, while it also “activates narcotic receptors in the brain and spinal cord to relieve pain.” (Turley, 2010) Tramadol binds to opioid receptors in the brain, which are receptors that transmit the sensation of pain throughout the body. My Rheumatologist started me on 50mg...

Pain Medication

...be of different forms. It can be acute or chronic pain. Each and every person has a different tolerance level towards pain. It can be treated in different ways, but the relief from the pain differs from person to person. There are different kinds of medications that a person can take, which includes prescription or non-prescription medications. All medications regardless of what they are or what they do should be taken with caution. Non-prescription medications include “Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including Tylenol, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Advil, etc. Then you have prescription medications which are Corticosteroids, Opioids, Antidepressants, Anticonvulsants (anti-seizure medications) and many others”. These can be used to get rid of the common headache, arthritis, or muscle and joint pain. In some cases it may take weeks before a specific medication starts to work, therefore making a person turn to another option (WebMD, 2008).      Morphine is a narcotic pain drug indicated for the relief of pain in patients who require opioid analgesics for more than a few days. Morphine interacts predominantly with the opioid mu-receptor. “These mu-binding sites are discretely distributed in the human brain, with high densities in the posterior amygdala, hypothalamus, thalamus, nucleus caudatus, putamen, and certain cortical areas. They are also found on the terminal axons of primary afferents within laminae I and II (substantia gelatinosa) of the spinal cord...

Carboxylic acid is the first functional groups and an aromatic ring (image of Benzene). The way Ibuprofen work in the body is with the enzyme called cyclooxygenase which prevent a compound called arachidonic acid to turn into prostaglandins. One of the actions prostaglandins cause is inflammation (Jones & Lewis, 2010). That is why when we look at Ibuprofen, it is described as an anti-inflammatory medication. What this means is it help reduce the swelling to relief pain and help reduce fever. Chronic Headache Patients Essay

...Chronic headache patients are often referred by general medical practitioners to a specialized headache clinic for treatment. The Calgary Headache Assessment and Management Program (CHAMP) under Alberta Health Services is one such specialized clinic that offers workshops, lectures and education geared towards the headache patients [11]. CHAMP teaches headache patients all the necessary skills to manage their own headaches. In an introductory and mandatory headache education session by CHAMP, headache patients are introduced and encouraged to track headache data using a headache diary to understand patterns of their headaches [12]. Collecting and analyzing headache data is particularly useful for people with chronic headaches, whose headache attacks usually occur in response to unidentified triggers [30]. Usually, headache patients guess or assume their headache triggers but are unsure of them until they track and analyze their headache data. Consistent with the International Headache Society guidelines [13], CHAMP recommends a paper-based diary for its patients to self-track or self-monitor headaches as patients go through everyday life. Self-monitoring (or self-tracking) is an activity of recording one’s own behaviors, thoughts or feelings [34]. The self-monitoring process involves individuals’ collecting and reflecting on personal data. Thus, self-monitoring of chronic headaches also depend on effective data collection and analysis of collected data. The CHAMP headache diary...

Rheumatoid Arthritis Affects The Body

...Fatigue, fever and even weight loss may be seen, along with firm bumps of tissue under the skin. In the earlier stages of rheumatoid arthritis, it normally only affects the smaller joints such as those of the fingers to hands and toes to feet. As the disease gets worse, it spreads to the wrists, knees, ankles, elbows, hip, and shoulders. Normally, this disease is symmetric and occurs on both sides of the body (Mayo Clinic). Not only are joints affected by the disease, but also the rest of the body. Main parts that are affected are the skin, bones, eyes, lungs, heart, kidneys, blood, nervous system and even the liver. The skin is mainly affected by nodules, or lumps of tissue that forms under the skin, or even rashes called vacuities. Drugs can even cause thinning of the skin and even bruising. The bones are affected by thinning out. The RA leads to loss of bone density, which leads to brittle bones. The eyes are affected by inflammation of the white part of the eyes and this can even lead to scarring. The arthritis may affect your vision, and even sensitivity to light. Eyes may become dry, and in worse case corticosteroid may cause cataracts and even glaucoma. The major organs may be affected as well. The lung in worse...
