...Worldview Assignment APOL 104 (September 7, 2014) Part I: What is a worldview? Worldview is the framework of beliefs by which a person views the around him. It translates from the German word weltanschauung which means “world perception.”(Hindson et al, 2008). Everyone has some type of worldview. As Christians, our worldview is using the Bible as our standard for our framework. Part 2: 1) The Question of Origin This question asks, “How did life begin?” and “How did mankind come into existence?” (Weider et al, 2011). Origin is the start or the beginning. It is as simple as Genesis 1:1—the beginning of the Bible and God’s creation. Genesis 1:26-27, clearly tells us how we got here—that God created men and women in His image. I did not evolve. Colossians 1:16-17 supports that God created everything including all things seen and unseen. 2) The Question of Identity This question seeks to answer, “What does it mean to be a human?” and “Are humans more important than animals?” (Weider et al. 2011). God took a handful of soil and made man. He breathed life into the man. (Genesis 2:7). He created us to be below Him but above all of the animals as told in Psalm 8:3-9. We are His children. He gave is the power to live, move, and be who we are. (Acts 17:28). 3) The Question of Meaning/Purpose The question of meaning or purpose asks, “Why do I exist?” (Weider et al, 2011). Christianity is about a relationship with God. (Weider et al, 2011). Our purpose is to be like...

...World View Assignment I: What is a worldview? To have a world view means that you have created a personal opinion of life. Those opinions you have created, help you make decisions as well as help you learn how to portray the world around you. As to be expected, one man’s worldview will not be the same as yours but it is always good to share your views with other people to hopefully open their eyes to your perception on certain topics. Finally it’s also good to listen to other people’s views to expand your own personal knowledge on the Christian world view. II: 1) The question of Origin As stated by the Christian world view on the origin of life, the inception of everything that exists was a result from God himself. The naturalist’s theory states that life came from non-living matter. We know, for a fact, through our Christian beliefs that life came in the form of our externally living God (genesis 1:1). We can honestly say that we did not come from animals, but were created by God himself. 2) The question of Identity The question of Identity is answered in the Bible. It states that men were created in God’s image and likeness, to replenish and subdue the earth and have power over every living thing on earth (Genesis 26-28). This basically means that man was created to reproduce and keep things on earth in an active state. We, as humans, are to always be the superior species here on earth. 3) The question of Meaning/ Power The Christian world view on life meaning...

The Bible says that Gob created the earth and allt hat it in it. It states that there was a specific beginning to time. Two verses to support these beliefs are Genesis 1:1 and Nehemiah 9:6. The Question of Identity- Christians believe that humans are a special creation of God and are made in His image. They believe that humans are above all other created beings. They also believe that animals and the earth are not to be worshipped, but to be cared for (Weider and Gutierrez). Two verses to support these beliefs are Genesis 1:27 and Psalms 8:5. ...I. Worldview is how we interpret life. It is the guiding force for how we live our lives. “A worldview is….an explanation and interpretation of the world and second, an application of this view of life.” John MacArthur, What’s your Worldview?, Answers Magazine (May 2, 2006), http://www.answeringenesis.org/articles/am/v1/n1/whats-your-worldview/. Without worldview, we would have not have the individual personal beliefs that guide our lives and decisions. II. The Christian worldview on the question of origin is Theism. Theism contends that God is the ultimate Creator of all. Genesis 1:1; Psalm 139:13-16. However, there is a slight variance in what some religious organizations teach with the Holy Trinity. Some believe it is God and Only God, while others believe in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. There are other origins that do not have a Christian worldview. First is Naturalism, which says everything is matter and just has existed. Dr. Lew Weider and Dr. Ben Gutierrez, Consider, 64 (2013). Then there is the Pantheistic worldview. This view says that God is not personal. They basically believe that everything has always been part of God and, He does not have any compassion for it. Dr. Lew Weider and Dr. Ben Gutierrez, Consider, 65 (2013). The Christian worldview on the question of Identity is again Theism. Theisms believe that we were all created by God and in His image. Genesis 2:15. Naturalists do not believe in supernatural events. ...

...COURSE DESCRIPTION This is a study in the development and application of the Biblical/Christian Worldview. This course will include an introduction and application of critical thinking skills, as well as a study of religious and philosophical worldviews, the nature of tolerance and basic apologetic methodology. RATIONALE APOL 104 is designed to deepen and broaden the student’s understanding of the core fundamentals of the Biblical/Christian Worldview, and to equip the student to present that view in the face of competing worldviews. The goal is to enable students to think more clearly and critically about Christianity and truth. It is also the goal to equip Christians to become more effective witnesses and participate more constructively in the larger socio-cultural debate. In order to accomplish this goal, we must (1) understand the essentials of Christian truth, (2) understand the historical opponents to Christianity and truth, and (3) present a biblical, logical, and reasonable defense of Christianity. Through studying worldviews, students can better understand the nature of humanity and individual conduct so that they are prepared to address relevant questions in a culture of relativism. As the apostle Paul states, “Know how you should respond to each person who asks us about such things” Col. 4:6 (NASB). By understanding worldviews, one acquires a powerful form of wisdom that characterized the sons of Issachar, “men who understood the times, with knowledge of what...

...World View Assignment-Apol 104 Part I After the reading assignments this week I believe a worldview is a set of basic principals about live. It’s what we use to help us understand life You can think if of it like a “lens” though which we see life. “Someone with a biblical worldview believes his primary reason for existence is to love and serve God.” Part II 1. When we think about origin through the Christian worldview, the first “tool” we should think about is. The bible is the first “stepping stone” for the Christian worldview; it’s what we use to base our beliefs on, and how we know that God is the almighty creator. Genesis 1:24 and Genesis 2:7 are good supporting scripture references that talk about how God is the creator, thus the origin of Christian worldview is formed. 2. The bible says that God created man and women in his image and that we are a “unique creation.” Knowing that God only created US in him image and nothing else helps us answer the questions of identity. Genesis 1:27 and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 are scripture references that further reiterate that man was formed in God’s image and we should be respectful of ourselves because “our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” 3. In my opinion the purpose of life as far as biblical worldview is concerned is so that man will come to know and accept Jesus Chris as their Lord and Savior. 2 Corinthians 5:15 let’s us know that Jesus died for us, and paid for our sins. He did this so that we may...

...Colin Villarino Apol 104 June 2 2012 Worldview Assignment I. Worldview is a commonly used word in the Christian church; however, many may not understand the true meaning of this simple world. Worldview has to do with the perspective that one looks at the world. II. 1. Origin- Christians believe that the world was created by God. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. Genesis 1:31 also refers to the creation, and the goodness of what God created. As Christians we believe the we were made by a divine being, as was the rest of the world that surrounds us. 2. Identity- We were made in the image of God. Genesis 1:26 says, “and God says let us make man in our own image”. Later in this verse he says that man will have dominion over all the earth. James 3:9 also give reference to our identity, and says that we were made in God’s image. We can learn about how specially designed we are by looking at these scriptures. 3. Meaning- John 17:3 refers to our meaning in life; it is to know God. We were made by God to have a relationship with Him; however, when we sin we fall short of the closeness that God desired for us. As mentioned above we were made in God’s image to be close to him, Genesis 1:27. 4. Morality- We were made to be good by God,, but according to Romans 3:23 we have fallen short of the glory of God. When Jesus came, he told the disciples to listen and to obey His teachings ( Matthew 28:19). These teaching were of the moral life...

...Jessica Alford APOL 104 Fall 2012 Professor Duane Carmody Worldview Assignment Part I. A worldview is a set of beliefs that you hold true and live by to answer key life questions and make decisions daily. It’s the “glass” in which allows you to see the world through your idea of reality. A worldview is a response of our heart or inner being, our intellect emotion and will (Dr. Lew Weider, 2011). It is the framework we bring to decision-making that can also be described as a filter from which one sees and interprets the world (Dr. Lew Weider, 2011). Simply, worldview is a person’s philosophy of life, the framework a person brings to decision-making, and a filter which a person uses to interpret life. Part II. The elements of a person’s worldview include beliefs about knowledge, the origins and nature of the universe, the existence and nature of God, the purpose of humankind, as well as what is good and bad, and what is right and wrong (Facing the future, 2012). The three ways world views among others that are most prevalent, Naturalism, Pantheism, and Theism. The biblical/Christian worldview falls under Theism. This first worldview question relates to the very nature of reality in its entirety. Theism contends that everything that exists is a result of God, the creator God (Dr. Lew Weider, 2011). Scripture references are Genesis 1:1 and Psalm 139:13-16. God created the universe and everything in it, this also suggest that God is separate from his creation...

The Question of Origin: The question of origin is answered by Hinduism in that they believe everything has always existed and everything is apart of God. They believe that God and the universe are the same. Hindus or Hinduism think that they have always existed and do not have a creator by any means. The God we know is viewed as an infinite, impersonal source. (Gutierrez and Weider 2011) The Question of Identity: The followers of Hinduism believe everything is spiritual or sacred. They like Christians believe a man’s soul is eternal, but when their soul (which they refer to as Atman) reaches Nirvana will become one with Brahman. They also believe in incarnation which can be determined or influenced by karma. (Gutierrez and Weider 2011) The Question of Meaning or Purpose: Hindus see everything as an illusion, a dream, or a mirage. They say that the life that is around us does not really exist as we know it or as we see it. People in general do not grow to understand that the life cycle is birth, death, and rebirth. ...Critical Thinking Assignment Haley, Jennifer APOL 104 D43 November 26, 2013 Part one The Question of Origin: In Buddhism, they don’t believe in an all-powerful God who created our world so they diffidently don’t teach it. Believers look to Buddha, their religion’s founder, for a model of how act. Buddhist view, the world is infinite in both time and space; the world is created and destroyed over and over again in a process we call, natural evolution. The Question of Identity: Buddhist considers everything living to be sacred and/or spiritual in nature. They also believe in reincarnation and a person’s spiritual future is based only on ones good or bad decisions in a lifetime which is known as Karma. The Question of Meaning/Purpose: The primary purpose is to end suffering. Buddha believed and therefore taught that people suffer because they are too wrapped up in things that do not give long lasting happiness and are too busy trying to hold to things such as, friends, material possessions and things that do not last. In the end it will only lead to sorrow. This is where the Four Noble Truths come into play: teaches that all life is marked by suffering, suffering is caused by desire and attachment, suffering can be stopped, and the way to end suffering is to follow the Noble Eightfold Path. The Question of Morality: Love, respect and compassion are three things that are highly valued in Buddhism as an ethical and moral path for their model of behavior. The Noble...

...Critical Thinking Assignment Sarah Brown L25205543 APOL 104 I.) In Hinduism, the Question of Origin asks how life began. Not a single specific person can be linked to the Hinduisms origin. The word “Hinduism” is not in the scriptures and this makes it difficult for researchers to determine when Hinduism actually began. Hinduism is a system that “attempts to maintain a complex polytheism on the one hand, and an earth-based worship of nature on the other.” (Hindson & Caner, pg 263) At some point in between Hinduism was born. The Question of Identity is answered by the Hinduism worldview as everything is spiritual/sacred in life. Some believe “that a man’s soul is eternal and when he reaches a state of Nirvana, their soul (Atman) will become one with Brahman (Hinduism’s concept of eternal soul).” (Weidler & Gutierrez, 2011) Hinduism believes in reincarnation, which is determined by karma. The Question of Meaning or Purpose is answered by the Hinduism’s worldview as they view everything as an illusion. People usually believe that is a person doesn’t learn to understand this concept that they will stay in the lifecycle of birth, death, and rebirth. “Like a dream or a mirage, our life and everything around us does not really exist as we know it.” (Weidler & Gutierrez, 2011). The Question of Morality is answered by how they strive to be in a state of perfection, also known as moksha. To get there, they must release all wrong and evil doings. They do this by doing...

There are many elements that shape are world view. Some would include our family, friends, faith etc. Our world view can determine our behavior and our reactions towards others. The biblical worldview of origin can be found in God’s word. Genesis 1:1 tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth. This was and is the only logical start of our world. A biblical world view also tells us who we are in Christ Jesus. We are victorious and more than conquers. (Romans 8:38 NLT) As believers in Christ we are God’s children. The bible again proclaims how we were created in God’s image and we were created special from any of His other creatures. (Genesis 1:27 NLT) Our life’s purpose is to know God and to have a relationship with Him through His word. God created us with free will and we can except that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us or not. The message is out there for us all. The question of morality is answered throughout the bible. Jesus says that if we love him than we are to keep his commandments. (John 14:15 NLT) We are very clear on God’s view on lying, murder, adultery and other things of this nature. Any concerns on issues of morality can be answered in the bible. God left no guess work for us on morals. God’s plans for us is good. Our Future is full of...

...Worldview Assignment APOL 104- D09 July 15, 2013 Worldview Assignment A worldview is shaped by the opinions, thoughts and conclusions of others, such as parents, teachers, media, friends and our religious leaders. What we receive from these sources will play an important role for years to come in defining who we are as individuals, our belief systems, how we view our fellowman, the schools we attend and where we live. In addition, it affects morality and how we define right and wrong, social and political issues. The way we view the world has a direct correlation to our decision-making, which will not only impact our lives in a positive or negative manner, but those around us. The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it for his glory (Gen 1:1). The Universe did not come into existence by happenstance as the Secularist would have you to believe, but the work of intelligent design (John 1:3). The Bible is the standard by which the Christian Biblical Worldview is framed and our standard for living. Humanity began when God articulated that He was the architect of it. God took dust from the ground and created Adam and breathed life in him, and out of Adam came Eve. What makes humanity so special is that we were not spoken into existence, but sculptured by the loving hand of God, in his image and likeness. We did not evolve from the animal kingdom as Darwinism states. Humanity is unlike any other creation of God; we were...
