In Snow White and the Huntsman there are many archetypes: Snow White being the hero, Queen Ravenna is the devil figure and then there is Eric who is also known as the huntsman is the shadow but many other things as well. You are able to see Eric’s shadow from the very beginning and we are shown just how bad his shadow has gotten to him. Even though he is in an extremely dark place throughout the journey with Snow White, Eric does many things that make it easy to see he wasn’t always as bitter as he lets off to be. He starts out the journey by hunting Snow White for the queen, but when he captures her he hesitates to hand her over because he doesn’t have what he was promised, his wife. With the Queen’s powers she said she was able to bring people back from the dead and Eric ended up believing her with how easy she made it seem. He went through a horrible tragedy and while on this journey he was finally able to feel something other than pain, to make him want to care about someone other than himself again. Eric was an outcast because he was so depressed after his wife died that he didn’t care what happened and he was constantly drinking. The shadow came out after the war because of all the horrid things he had to witness but his wife took his darkness away until she died. He withdrew himself from everyone and anything until Snow White. Snow White made Eric have inner conflict on how he should be acting and maybe he should care about something other than his hootch. You also see Eric as a hero when he saves Snow White from Queen Ravenna and helps her through the dark forest.
