In this class assignment, I chose 24 images from website, most of them are popular TV shows during those 3 decades. In the 1970-1979, I chose Adams of Eagle Lake, Bronk, Logan’s run, Harry O, Kung Fu, The life and times of Grizzly Adams, The Oregon Trail and The police story. Some of them are Personal hero story, like The TV show called The police Story. The show was the brainchild of author and former policeman Joseph Wambaugh and represented a major step forward in the realistic depiction of police work and violence on network TV. In the TV shows called Kung Fu follows the adventures of a Shaolin monk, Kwai Chang Caine who travels through the American Old West armed only with his spiritual training and his skill in martial arts, as he seeks his half-brother, Danny Caine. Also the Harry O and Logan’s run are 1970-1979 TV shows to represent the male personal masculinity through action, personal inner feeling. Some others like The life and times of Grizzly Adams and the Oregon Trail are classic western TV shows, In the TV shows The life and times of Grizzly Adams, Grizzly Adams is a woodsman during the frontier era who flees into the mountains after he is wrongly accused of murder. While struggling to survive, Adams discovers an orphaned grizzly bear cub whom he takes in and calls Ben. The bear, despite his huge adult size, becomes Adams's closest companion. Adams proves to have an uncanny link to most of the indigenous wildlife of the region, who have no fear of him. In return, he resolves never to harm another animal whenever possible. This TV shows represents the great human’s ability to struggle with unfair destiny, that was the prove of male masculinity from 30 years’ view.
During the next decade, I preferred 21 Jump street, The A-Team, The Fall Guy, Knight Rider, Magnum,P.I, Zorro and Son, My Secret Identity, and A man Called Hawk. Majority of them describes personal hero in the TV show, like in the TV show called Knight Rider, Michael Long is a crimefighter who is seriously wounded during his work. Nursed back to health by a mysterious benefactor, he regains consciousness a new man with a new face and a new name: Michael Knight. His mysterious benefactor provides Michael with equipment and support so that he can continue his crime fighting work. In this TV show, a lot of Science technology was issued during the 1980-1989 to make the people more vivid. The same police TV show called 21 Jump Street was so popular in that older year. But compare to older criminal TV show, 21 Jump Street is an American police procedural crime drama television series. So many funny story happed in this TV shows, the male are not just a men with a strong arms, the men was described a people with strong muscle, more funny and more lovely. The character is easy to accept by more people. The A –team describe Four Vietnam vets, framed for a crime they didn't commit, help the innocent while on the run from the military. Those people are classic American hero. They are strong, brave, and smart. They fight with crime and protect innocent people out of trouble. The people change their imagination toward hero in their mind. They hope male could be more diversity and sensitive. They do not like a people just with a strong arm but stupid brain. So we can see a lot of funny guys with a smart brain, but look so skinny. That is masculinity change from 1970 to 1980.
In the nearly 1990-2000, I chose 8 T The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. V picture below The sopranos, The West Wing, Bonanno: A Godfather's Story, Baywatch Nights, Murder One, One west Waikiki, and Zorro. In the TV shows called Zorro, a young nobleman who lives a double live as El Zorro ('the Fox'), protector of the people of the Pueblo de Los Angeles during the early 1800s. Hiding behind the mannerisms of a bookish fop, Diego keeps his second identity hidden from everyone but his servant, Felipe. Zorro's greatest enemy is always the Alcalde, who personifies the distant Spanish government in Los Angeles. Cantina-owner Victoria Escalante provides the love interest. As time gone so quickly, the people hope their male hero could be their lover. So hero is going to have a date with ordinary lady after his fight with bad guys. The people start to talk about love and sex. Those topics are forbidden many years ago, but as the technology developed so quickly, they talk about everything including love, sex and adult topic. Zorro is not a just a person who want to protect people out of crime. Sometime, he fights for a woman. He put love in a highly position in his mind. It fits the people’ feeling. Masculinity is changed again. Hero can be lover. They are not animal, they need to love someone also could be love by anyone. Actually, the same thing happened in the Chinese art history. In the old days, the male hero never talk about love, some kids even thing the hero never have a family and a wife. Because they have never seen any information about their family. A great example is Water Margin which is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literatures. The author tells of how a group of 108 outlaws gathered at Mount Liang (or Liangshan Marsh) to form a sizable army before they are eventually granted amnesty by the government and sent on campaigns to resist foreign invaders and suppress rebel forces. But there are 104 men and only 4 women in this literature. Most of them never talk about love. But right now, most male character in TV shows, they stare to have date with a lady, they have a family and a wife. They are not only work with brother every day. They have their own family.
We can see from remarkable change during those 30 years. The male changed as the time developed, at the beginning, the entire male hero are serious and strong. During the 80’ the male hero are also funny with easygoing. In the 90’, hero is a vivid person; they stare to talk about love. We can really see masculinity from TV shows changes.

...emotional battles of its members in a post-9/11 world. The TV show is mostly centered around Tommy Gavin, a veteran firefighter whose life is in turmoil as he copes with stresses and fears of his job as well as the separation from his wife Janet. Tommy is lost, just like all other firefighters. In the June 20th, 2006 episode titled Sparks, Tommy Gavin was at a breaking point. The character was involved in a controversial storyline: Tommy flies into an angry rage, throws Janet down on the couch, rips her shirt off, lifts her skirt up, and basically ‘rapes’ her. However, the way the scene unfolded on screen, it was almost as if Janet enjoyed Tommy forcing himself on her. Janet never said the words “No” or “Stop”, she did physically try to get Tommy off of her when he first attacked her. But moments later she gave in, and seemed to approve what was going on. At the end of the scene, Tommy stood up, apologized for ripping her shirt, and left Janet’s house with a smirk on his face – he seemed quite pleased with himself. Television reviewers, bloggers, and fans complained about the scene. There was a debate about whether Tommy had raped Janet or not. Janet's reaction and Tommy's expression caused as much reaction as the assault itself, with critics saying that it made rape look unimportant, unrealistic, and that Tommy's actions were condoned. It obviously shocked some of the viewers. Is this scene appropriate for a cable TV network ? What are the implications of Janet’s reaction...

...Describe a TV presenter Well, there are so many different TV programs on show everyday in diversified channels; hence there are thousands and thousands of TV presenters we can see. Some may leave us a very deep impression while others may not leave a thing in our mind. Here, I’d like to talk about the TV presenter I love, Wu Zongxian, although others may have a mixed feeling about him. Being a TV presenter in Taiwan, Wu started his career in the field of variety shows in the late 1980s, and then he became famous because of his unique style of hosting TV programs and therefore the TV programs he hosted are constantly ahead in the ratings. All these earn him the top salary among those TV presenters in Taiwan, being the local king for many rs. In 2008, he even won the Golden Bell Awards in television industry. His fast reaction and tactfulness in hosting is among the first class, second to few others, and gradually, he formed his own style of hosting TV programs. Because he likes to use those popular words on the internet, and his figure is not like other middle-aged men, he is quite popular among the young audience. However, he also likes to rip on people, open the low gun, speak nonsense, and disrespect women, which, meanwhile, bring him a lot of criticisms. Thanks to the change of the criteria of assessment, Wu was nominated three times for the best TV presenter in 2006,2007 and 2008, and successfully won the golden bell award in 2008 with the popular program “guess, guess...

Violent Video Games Can Never Be Art

...Video games are a rising venture in the entertainment industry. Thought to have been started in 1972 with a game known as Pong, video games have been improved on and polished until modern times and continue to increase in quality. “Video Games Can Never Be Art”, a blog post written by Roger Ebert, poses the argument that Video games will never evolve to the point where they could be considered an art. This argument does not possess an easy answer. To answer the argument with either an agreement or a reasonable disagreement, the term art must first be defined. Defining what can and cannot be art turns out to be quite a difficult task however. Throughout history, art has common aspects that go into its creation: passion and creativity. Video games are a pastime yes, but if they possess the same aspects that are included in artwork, I believe they too can be considered a form of art....

...of the memorandum infers that during the last five years, the number of city residents watching television programs about visual arts has increased by 15 percent and also those going to the arts also risen at a similar rate. Then he is making the assumption that this is link to the fact that the corporate funding is supporting the public television channel where the visual arts program are appearing. The author strongly think that if we cut this budget, the number of people watching arts TV programs will decrease, and say that it will affect the number of persons visiting arts museum too. First of all, I would like to point the fact that there is a mistake in the comparison, indeed television and museums are too different thing, even if both got program about arts. I think that the people who are interested in arts, will continue to watch television or either going to museum. If the city residents like arts, even if there is less program on TV about arts, will still go to arts museum, maybe it wiil even increase. So first point, there is a wrong link between television and museum. Also there is data missing, as we don’t know if people been to museum after having seen arts program on the tv or if it they do it on the other ways. On a second hand, the last phrase of the text is telling us that they should relocate some of the fund of the city arts museum to public television in order to counter-balance the cut in public television fund, and this is in my mind it’s two totally...

Critical Analysis Essay

...“It is recognized that the most valuable asset of a broadcaster is public respect, which must be earned and can be maintained only by adherence to the highest possible standards of public service and integrity,” is a quote that can be found on the Canadian Broadcasting Standards Council (CBSC) website, which presents a opposite At first the interview appeared to be a respectful interview with a respectful interview guest, Canadian Interpretive Dancer, Margie Gillis; however, this interview was nothing but this as the conduct of broadcaster Krista Erikson took a turn for the worst. Consequently, resulting in the CBSC receiving a record number of complaints- in fact they received more complaints than Sun TV sees viewers. While it is true that we live in a free democratic society where we can express our opinions even if they may not be the same at others, once that pen hits paper or the camera hits record, it is the duty of journalists and reporters to provide information in a manner which is truthful and unbiased. Evidently, this is something that Erikson lacked as she attacked and ambushed interpretive dancer, Gillis. Within the CBSC’s violations there is article eight (decency and conduct), which states “Broadcast journalists will treat people who are subjects and sources with decency. They will use special sensitivity when dealing with children. They will strive to conduct themselves in a courteous and considerate manner, keeping broadcast equipment as unobtrusive as possible...

How Has Globalism Changed Over Time

...Arts of the global village are categorized by the many varieties of stylistic diversity and a number of ideas and techniques, which all of these are brought together by the sensations of digital technology. Digital computers have definitely made their mark and put the entire history of art at disposal. Everyone now a day knows what the internet is, but what people don’t know is how far the internet can really go if you try. The internet “gives access to the contents of more than 5,000 museums, and millions of photographic images are available on a variety of websites” (Fiero 167). Not only does digital technology just store information and help distribute data but has completely transformed how art is made and viewed. This technology has made its way to where it is now used for the majority of architectural designs along with engineering. Digital computers provide a three-dimensional picture of the execution process for architecture. Computers are a primary tool in order to make digital art. To give an idea of how vast digital art forms are here lies a few examples “two-dimensional imaging, virtual reality, performance, animation, game art, and Internet art” (Fiero 167). Digital imaging, “the process by which computers manipulate old images or generate new ones” have completely revolutionized the “world of film, television...

Andy Warhol

...chew on: “What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.” –Andy Warhol Now, right off the bat, you can tell what kind of guy Warhol is, and his attitude toward life. Yes he took his art seriously but if you read his book The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) you will see that’s pretty much the only thing he really took seriously. Warhol, born Andrew Warhola on Aug. 6, 1928 , to Slovakian parents didn’t come from a well off family. His parents were working class immigrants in Pittsburgh. When Warhol was in third grade, he came down with St. Vitus’ Disease, a nerve disorder that causes involuntary movements and thought to be a complication of scarlet fever, which “changed his appearance and his life forever.” Despite this complication, in 1945 Warhol went on to study pictorial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. After graduating, he moved to New York as a commercial artist and an illustrator-- for Vouge, Harper’s Bazaar, The New Yorker and Glamour...

Supported by abundant resources, I was continuously developing my interests in communications through the flexible curriculum at PDS, and growing vibrantly as an individual. Popular American Culture

...Culture SOC/105 October 31, 2012 S. C. Culture and Pop Culture The official definition of culture is “the customary beliefs, social norms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group” (Webster Dictionary.com, 2012) whereas popular culture is the opposite of high cultural art forms like the opera, historic art, classical music, traditional theater or literature. It includes many forms of cultural communication, including newspapers, television, advertising, comics, pop music, radio, novels, movies, etc. In the beginning of the 20th Century," High art" was the realm of the wealthy and educated classes while popular culture or "Low art" is commercial entertainment for the lower classes. In the 1950s and 60s the gap between them closed with the rise of Pop Art” (Kartha, 2011, p.1). Pop culture is so prominent in society that it is almost impossible to escape its influence. This is especially true in America. As a result of easy access, children absorb huge amounts of information presented by the pop culture world, which influences and shapes their identities. However, not all of it is negative and if parents educate themselves and monitor their children’s activities, pop culture is often a positive influence that helps mold the children of the future...
