...one single factors, but group of elements that work in coherent manner to attain the organizational objectives. After reading the case of Broadway Entertainment Corporation (BEC), it can be claimed that the decision of BEC’s management to change the company processes with the changing technology, is one of the key factors behind the success of the company. BEC started to automate its work process with the evolution of technology, which enhances the performance and productivity of employees. This in my perspective is another contributing cause of the BEC’s success. This process of continuous self improving and implementing the timely change has paved the way of success. Moreover, the company’s approach for utilizing its technological advancement commercially by offering their expertise in technology area to business had contributed greatly in strengthens the brand name of BEC. Change managers know all too well the pressure that goes along with growing IT environments and climbing performance expectations from employers. This factor has contributed greatly in the success of IS organization at BEC. The main factor again I would like to assert here which contributed in the success of the company is the embracement of change. BEC’s chain of music, video, and game rental and sales outlets are already using BEC IS made application, which demonstrate the effectiveness of their application. The introduction of technology in the retail business at the one hand increased the sales and...

The Lord Loss

...Grubitsch "Grubbs" Grady, the younger child of chess-obsessed parents, grows increasingly uneasy with the recent strange, nervous behavior of his parents and sister. One night, he finds the mutilated bodies of his family and encounters Lord Loss, a gruesome human-like demon who sets his two familiars, Vein and Artery, on Grubbs. Although Grubbs manages to escape, he is deeply traumatized and is placed in a mental institute. He refuses to respond to treatment until he is visited by his father's younger brother, Dervish Grady, who tells Grubbs that he knows demons exist and convinces Grubbs to finally accept help. After Grubbs recovers, he lives with the rather eccentric Dervish in his mansion near the village of Carcery Vale. Dervish explains to Grubbs that using magic is possible as Grubbs himself used magic to flee from Lord Loss and his minions, members of an otherworldly race known as the Demonata. As Grubbs begins to settle down, he meets and befriends Bill-E Spleen, an orphan who visits Dervish often to learn magic. Fearing for Grubbs’ safety, Bill-E eventually shares his theory that Dervish is a werewolf, as many Gradys were prone to lycanthropy, which manifests itself at puberty. However, Bill-E is later revealed to be the real werewolf, though he doesn't know it himself. Dervish later explains that Bill-E is Grubbs' half-brother from one of his father's affairs. The only way to cure him is by winning three out of five simultaneous chess games with the powerfully magical...

What Qualities Have Led to Bec’s Success so Far?

...led to BEC’s success so far? The success of BEC can be attributed to a number of factors. The organization has used segmentation, targeting and positioning strategies in order to diversify the market. For instance, the company has opened stores in Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, and US. All the products sold by the company have been categorized into video games and recorded music. This offers the consumers variety and choice. BEC is also quick to seize business opportunities. For instance, BEC has invested heavily in information systems like the venture in online marketing. To ensure that the organization is not trapped in the cyclical nature of the expansion and contraction of sales video games, the company has devised a model for integration into all stores. ‘The game trading model’ ensures that users of the video games can exchange used video games for other videos on a rental basis. Instead of opening new stores for online distribution network, the organization uses the already existing ones. This has been a competitive advantage as consumers can access movies and videos simultaneously, thus cutting down costs. The management system at BEC is based on information systems where leadership plays a great role (Vankatesh, 2008). IS systems ensures that an organization makes effective decisions (Alwis & Higgins, 2001; Ajayi & Fadekemi, 2007). This ensures that decisions are easily made and the flow of information hindered. The IS at BEC has the capacity to share information in all...

Changes to the Content and Format of the Cpa Exam

...format of the CPA exam in 2011. Starting January 1, 2011, there are a lot of changes about the content and format of the CPA exam. Now we are going to look at some major content changes for the four parts of the CPA exam----FAR (Financial Accounting and Reporting), AUD (Auditing and Attestation), REG (Regulation) and BEC (Business Environment and Concepts). For FAR, the most notable is the testing of IFRS, the International Financial Reporting Standards. Candidates must know about the differences between GAAP and IFRS. AUD adds professional responsibilities, which contain ethics and independence testing that is previously in REG. REG adds business structure topics, which is previously in BEC. BEC adds corporate governance topic and redefines information systems topic. In addition to the content changes, the format of the CPA exam has been changed as well. To begin with, the timing of the exam has been changed. Not the overall time, which is still 14 hours total, but the time allocation to AUD part and BEC part. For purpose of more time to complete the new communication tasks, four and a half hours in AUD part has been down to four hours, and two and a half hours in BEC part has increased to three hours. The time for both FAR and REG remains the same, which are four hours and three hours respectively. Now let’s take a look at how it changes for each part of the exam in detail. In 2010, the FAR, AUD and REG all have three testlets of multiple-choice questions, which comprise 70 points...

...the implications of co-conducting a project plan from the project and department managers’ points of view. After studying the case study, it is clear that both project managers and functional departments are positioned as the same level of Beijing EAPs Consulting (BEC) hierarchy. The main organizational of this structure reflects that they concentrated on planning, managing, and marketing each project. Both sections have its own project department including department A and B. This indicates that each project department has the authority to determine which duty should be assigned to proceed in the project cycle. On the other hand, the project managers believed that their authority had potential to identify orders and directions to the departmental subordinates. Neither subordinates nor the managers were familiar with the new structure because both had already been adjusted to the old function of BEC. Mr. Zheng had to change the BEC’s strategy because the new vision of organization mainly focused on business practices and the market’s potential profit sources. Due to the result of increased business demands, he changed the structure of the organization in order to enhance the efficiency of BEC’s human resources. BEC also faced with another issue which came from the project management system itself. In this approach, the department staff did not accept the role of the project managers because variety of functional departments, and two project management departments led to make...

Today, the company is the largest and the first Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider in Mainland China, dedicating in improving employees’ psychological capital, relieving personal distress, helping organizations to foster a workforce with Health, Happiness, and High Performance, and enhancing organizational competitiveness and harmony by providing EAP services (“Research Initiatives,” n.d.). Companies (such as Lenovo, China Development Bank, Guangdoing Mobile, Siemens, Samsung, IBM, etc.) came to BEC to provide their employees with psychological assistance benefits in order to reduce stress, to improve employees’ relationships, to improve the work environment, and to increase job satisfaction for all employees. Because of BEC rapid growth in business and profit, it was primarily due to the company had adopted a new project management system. This approach utilizes project managers to organize with employees across different functional departments. As a result, most employees worked on multiple projects and reported to both the department and project managers. This became an issue among employees because of conflict among the managers with task assignments. Employees at times must prioritize their tasks themselves which could result in a task not getting done on time for one of the managers. Another issue within the BEC Company is collaboration between the project and department...
