I had always planned on getting a pet while in college. But I didn’t exactly know which one. I knew I wanted something easy to take care of and vent to when things weren’t going exactly as I had planned. That’s when I went online to look up facts about various pets. My research showed that a betta fish was a super easy and fun fish to take care of. Right away I knew I wanted a baby betta fish. I looked towards my boyfriend and told him how a little betta fish would be the perfect pet for us. He didn’t seem too enthusiastic and turned out to be a very practical guy during that moment and asked me tons of questions before deciding to go along with me to PetsSmart.
On the way there, I couldn’t help but scroll through my Pinterest to find the coolest decked out Betta fish tanks. I knew I wanted a themed fish tank …show more content…
Next came picking out his new home, food and other accessories. I consulted a fish specialist at the store who provided some adequate information. When picking out the tank, I picked one that wasn’t too small or too big. A one-gallon glass bowl was the ideal size for my little betta fish. To fill the bowl I was going to need some non-chlorinated water. I reached for the Betta fish water solution, which magically turns tap water into the perfect water for fishes with just a few drops. My boyfriend and I then scurried over to the décor aisle to pick out a hiding spot for the fish. I was told betta fish love a good place to hide when under stress. I picked out a medium-sized plastic gray rock, which had two holes for the fish to swim in and out of. Next, for decor, I needed some gravel. The gravel also had to be smooth and without sharp edges. I quickly selected gold, pebbled gravel for the bottom of the

...To give you the short answer, yes, betta fish need a heater. Betta fish need to be kept at about 76 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit to maintain good health. That means most of us will have to use a heater in our betta tanks. The only time it makes sense to not heat your betta's bowl is if you live in a very warm area where it never gets much colder than 60 degrees, even in the middle of the night. The other instance is if you keep your betta in a very warm room that stays warm all the time. Remember, bettas need stable temperatures -- even a 10 degree drop in their water temperature over a twelve hour period is really not good for them. So if bettas need a heater, why are so many betta bowls out there heaterless? Because most people do not properly care for their betta fish, and that is why so many bettas only live a few months once you bring them home. It does not have to be this way! Your betta should live two or more years in your care at the very least. Keeping them warm is one of the best ways to ensure this happens. The other three ways are to put them in a properly sized bowl (2 gallons or more), change their...
