...The Big Interview Lesson 1 – Job Interview Fundamentals In this lesson, I learned about the many types of interviews and how to approach them all. I’ve done just about every interview listed. With the one-on-one, group, phone and video interviews, I did well on them. I also did well on the panel interview I had 2 years ago. I was afraid but I just treated it like it was a simple one-on-one but made sure I interacted with both interviewers. I have to remember that I’m in the drivers’ seat when it comes to interviewing. I will use this information obtain the goal of going in for the kill and take the job you so rightly deserve and qualify for. Lesson 2 – Job Interview Best Practices and Common Mistakes In Lesson 2, I’ve learned about the best practices, mistakes and what to wear on the interview. Being concise, confident, and interested are must haves on an interview. Staying on the message/topic whilst answering questions will also help you along in the interview process as well. Be prepared, be on time, and always be respectful because first impressions are everything in an interview. Avoid the 3 big mistakes that people are liable to make during an interview: don’t be late, be sure to do research on the company and position for which you have applied and lastly don’t avoid questions. I also learned about answering inappropriate/illegal questions. I never experienced that in an interview but now I know what to look out for and how to handle myself. I will be utilizing...

...Managers (of banks, insurance enterprises, of Enron, etc.) play(ed) high-risk games at the cost of the organization; they plunder(ed) the assets of employees and shareholders as well. If they win, they take all the gain; if they lose, they call for the taxpayer’s money because their organizations are too big to fail. They never think about stinting with their bonuses even if the taxpayers have to save the organization they work for because otherwise these same managers would leave it and so dispossess it of their skills and competence which, so they think, are badly needed to set it afloat again. Objective and Targeted Audience Jackall’s detailed sociological study of the managerial world is not written for a particular target group. As Jackall has clarified throughout a recent interview,1 his study is “part of a larger project. This is a long-term examination of the social, institutional, cultural, moral, and epistemological foundations of modern American society (Interview, p. 8).” If one wants to nominate an audience as the target group of the first edition, then it is perhaps identified best by the answer to the question: “How does bureaucracy shape moral consciousness?” (Interview, p. 1). This question,...

...recruitment experiences of two recent recruits within the “Big 4” accounting firms. The group agreed on this method so we could analyze the differences between the two processes and also the similarities as the companies work within the same industry sector. Also, to gain a more extensive view we chose to select two different types of recruit. One member of the team interviewed a Postgraduate employee and another asked questions of a direct entry employee. We chose these interviewees as it is a relevant area for our team and it was insightful to see the recruitment process they went through considering we may engage in a related process in the near future. Review of Literature Interview Once a candidate is selected, it is the responsibility of the recruiter to determine the method necessary to select the ideal employee for a given position. There are a number of techniques that can be utilized for this assessment, the primary ones being interviewing, psychometric testing, and provided work samples or references. The type of evaluation chosen must take into account the nature of the position, the expectations of the company, and how accurately it will provide insight into a candidate. The success of this process hinges on the ability to accurately compare all candidates on many levels. Finding a method that is both standardized and minimizes bias provides a greater opportunity for successful recruitment. The interview is a complex method of the recruitment process. While this...

...For my interview, I choose to interview the owner/entrepreneur of Affordable ATV’s, LLC. I asked her a variety of questions from different categories such as: Business overview, Business strategy, Human resources, Marketing, Technology, and Accounting. Affordable ATV’s was started in 2005. It was started in a good economy and the owner, Eric Bascom, started the business because he lost his union job that required him to travel all over the country for work. His brother-in-law sold 4-wheelers in a small shop in Indiana and when Eric lost his job he was trained on how to build the 4-wheelers along with many other types of small recreational vehicles. Eric brought his knowledge back to Richland county and started Affordable ATV’s. This company is S corporation, which means they operate like a corporation but are treated as a partnership for tax purposes. ATV’s sells powersports equipment such as 4 wheelers, utility vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, and dirt bikes for adults and children. They sell off-brand units of all the vehicles. Other brands such as: Honda, Kawasaki, or Suzuki, would cost about 4 times as much as the vehicles sold at Affordable ATV’s. This drastic difference in price is a huge competitive advantage for the company. Price makes a big difference when parents are buying a small scooter or child sized 4 wheeler for their kids. Parents don’t want to pay for a name brand that will cost them an arm and a leg when they can buy the off brand that runs...

...able to establish relations to all its stakeholders. It was seen in the later part of the movie that when CBS management kill the story of doctor vegan by fearing that a law suit by big tobacco would put at risk its proposed merger with Westing house and the multimillion dollar bonuses that were to be paid to CBS executive. Hence, they broke up their trust with all its stakeholders by backing up just for the profit of the company. 3) Was trust necessary between CBS News and its employee/ sources? Why do you say so? Would your answer differ if the industry was different? Why? * Yes, necessarily there has to be trust between CBS and its employees. While honesty and integrity are the basis for stakeholder trust across the board, those stakeholders that interact extensively with the organisation need to perceive authentic concern for their well-being to continue their trust. In other words, even well-meaning, ethically driven organisations can destroy trust if they are seen as being “fair but callous” when it comes to managing relationships with their most important stakeholders. * No, our answer will be same, there has to be a trust between stakeholder and the company no matter which ever industry it is this trust is required for the survival of the company in the long run 4) What factors promoted /hindered trust between CBS and Bergman, its employee? What were some consequences of trust/ lack of trust between Bergman and CBS for Bergman and CBS? ...

...demonstrative is a form of demonstrate it can be inferred that demonstrative communication is communication using nonverbal clues to send a message. These clues can be in the form of gestures, body language, facial expressions, or other sensory means. People are continually communicating, even when they are unaware of it. Here is an example; Bob arrives for a job interview with XYZ Company. As he pulls into the parking lot the interviewer notices that Bob’s vehicle is filthy, smoking, and making loud noises. When Bob enters the office his shirt is wrinkled, and appears to be disheveled. Throughout the job interview Bob stretches and yawns, rubs his eyes, and seems to be slow to answer simple questions. The interviewer could draw the conclusion that Bob has an unreliable vehicle, he finds the interview questions boring, and he does not take this potential job seriously. What if the interviewer discovered that Bob had been at a job interview 300 miles away the previous day and on his way back had incurred automobile trouble such that he had to have his vehicle towed. Furthermore, Bob got home one hour before this interview, and borrowed his younger brother’s car to make the appointment on time. Is this accurate? It is hard to say with the information provided but is obvious that without listening and responding effective communication did not take...

...Fernette Eide says, “It’s a huge mistake to regard a dyslexic child as if his or her brain is trying to follow the same pathway of development as all the other kids but is simply doing a bad job of it”(Eide, Wired Interview, 3). Dyslexics see the big picture and they are not as good at seeing the fine details. According to scientific studies, “reading changes the structure of the brain”(Schneps, 2). Scientists found that once people learn to read, they lose their ability to see the big picture and got better at seeing fine detail. For example, their ability to tell whether two things are mirror images of each other was lost. Differences between people with dyslexia and people without dyslexia goes beyond seeing. People with dyslexia have a different approach to problem solving and this has it’s...

...Alexandra Dragna Instructor Charpentier ENGL 102 4 January 2013 Annotated Bibliography Piette, Betsey. Workers Worlds. 27 April 2012. Web. 17 December de 2012. Piette uses this article to convey the message that Deepwater Horizon oil spill has affected more wildlife than ever. Many fish have been caught and found with large sores, streaks and lesions. When the scientist are looking at the coral and such under water, they are finding that many of it is still covered in oil. Even large animals such as dolphins are found affected. This article proves my argument for the affects of the deep sea drilling. This article shows my point and can provide evidence to show my audience, the oil companies, just how much the wildlife and animals are being affected. Piette carefully writes this article in hopes of maybe trying to show the oil field companies just what they are doing. That is why this article is going to help me prove my point and hopefully win over some oil field companies. If anything, this article makes me certain of the direction of the paper and what side I am on. I plan to pin point exact evidence such as lesions on fish and lung problems in dolphins. I plan to bring out the hard evidence and proof of just what is happening to these animals. Dragna, Lee. Interview Allie Dragna. 15 12 2012. In the interview with Lee Dragna, he shared personal experience about the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. His 9-year-old son saw the devastation on TV and wanted his...

...Skype that has enabled us to stay in touch despite the long distance between us. Målilla, Düsseldorf, Helsingborg 2007-05-28 Emma Almqvist Barbara Hruzova Kajsa Olsson Abstract The Swedish coffee culture is changing and bringing new business opportunities for multinational coffee shops. Our purpose with this dissertation was to describe the Swedish coffee culture and its changes. We wanted to increase our knowledge about how these changes can make Sweden a more attractive country for coffee shops, like Starbucks, wanting to establish in Sweden. We choose to use a qualitative method with an abductive approach. To gather the primary data we interviewed one barista and sent questionnaires to staff at different big coffee shops in Sweden. The interview questions were made out of five categories of describing culture by Rugman and Hodgetts. These answers and a multiple of articles helped us to describe the coffee culture and the changes. In the conclusion several benefits for coffee shops were identified from the cultural changes. Among the benefits we could see...

...How to ace the case interview Up front planning The case interview is only one dimension of the recruiting process, but it is typically the part that raises the most anxiety. We hope this guide will help you to prepare for the case so that you can be confident and enjoy the interview. You must have the ability to: • Break a complex problem into its component parts • Apply business judgment to identify value • Generate a creative range of solutions to a problem’s component parts • Identify the most likely/attractive solutions through logical reasoning • Generate thoughtful questions and ask for clarification of case data, as necessary • Translate analysis into actionable recommendations • Effectively communicate solutions in a concise and persuasive manner Preparation: A case study consists of a business problem taken from a real life business situation, or an example drawn from your resume. It focuses on your analytic approach to the problem, rather than specific business knowledge. First and foremost, you can succeed in a case interview without specific industry experience. Don’t panic if the case you are given is based on an industry with which you are unfamiliar. Remember, we are interested in how you analyze the problem, not how much you know about the industry. Practicing for the case interview is helpful. Practice by constructing examples from your resume and walking through steps 1—5. Finally, the answers mentioned demonstrate only one way to respond to the...
