Boeing is one of the biggest aviation companies in the world with relations to a number of different countries. They produce products for commercial and government use as well as have contracts with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Management planning is one of the primary key focuses to Boeing because of the size of its massive corporation. They create some of the top high-end equipment for medical, commercial, and government use. The primary workings of the company includes goods that aid in the carrying of cargo, people, and other equipment used by the government. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) oversees the operation of aircrafts for safety concerns. Because of the safety concerns, Boeing conducts very extensive planning to operate a well-organized and successful business. Planning includes precautionary needs for the future, figuring out the departments’ objectives, activities that could be of some concern to a company, and a company's techniques they will need to accomplish a successful result (Boeing, 2010). During plans making Boeing has to consider the unpredicted problems so that there can be no possible mishaps that could happen. By setting obtainable goals in marketing, sales, mechanical markets and engineering, and updating and training employees to be more effective will ensure that the products exceed high expectations and guarantee the organization is running smooth and efficiently. According to Boeing’s mission statement, "delivering innovative engineering will lead to more advanced products in the future", this has given the company the strong motivation to be the leader in the company's performance-driven culture (Boeing, 2010). Boeing is similar to many companies in that it has ethical, legal, and social responsibilities that it has to maintain as large corporation. Each of these responsibilities dictates how its management makes choices on how the company will perform to meet the needs of it company base. After doing research, Boeing has had a few legal issues in the past 10 years. One major legal issue important to mention was from 2000 to 2003. Boeing made the conscience decision of exporting commercial jets that had QRS-11 gyro chips, these chips are normally used to steer military grade guided missiles during flight, even though they were advised by the state department that the chip was a classified export-restricted defense system. Boeing was found guilty of violating 94 acts of the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) (Boeing Frontiers Online, 2011). The AECA provides the authority to control the export of defense articles and services, and charges the president to exercise this authority (State, 2011). Executive Order 11958, as amended, delegated this statutory authority to the Secretary of State. To follow conduct and ethics policies Boeing has created an Ethics Hotline for its employees and customers. The hotline is for any customer who has ever had an issue that he or she want to report. They are also three mandatory courses each year for employees. It reminds employees of Boeing’s pledge to conduct good business. To ensure that high standards are kept, they update their code of conduct certification on a yearly basis (Boeing, 2010). Boeing is very head strong in demonstrating direction, excellence, honesty, and consumer happiness (Boeing, 2010). Corporate social responsibility is known as one of Boeings important core values. They believe in serving the society to the most of its entirety thus is why they joined the Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility, a foundation that actuates companies to be successful through core values of ethics community service, and environmental issues back in 2008 (Foundation of Social Responsibility, 2009). Boeing has provided many contributions to society. They provide efficient and quieter airplanes that helps National Aeronautics and Space Administration improve its Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology to develop pictures of the moon (Boeing, 2010). According to Boeing.com, they set aside a certain percentage of their revenue to donate to a nonprofit organization that deals with education, culture, arts, environment, civic life, health, and human services. Multiple factors influence a company’s tactical, operational, contingency, and strategic planning. A company’s contingency plan is a course of action they follow if the primary plan falls short. If a project isn’t going as planned the company will more than likely be cancel it or the contingency plan could be set in motion to help ensure the success of the project. The tactical plan of Boeing involves design, testing, and installment of the equipment for future products on the new line of aerospace technology. In this phase the company looks at measures that should taken to accomplish the objectives. In the operational phase a company looks at labor, prices, and costs of production very closely (Boeing, 2010). Companies consider this phase the most important phase because the company decides to make a product. They weigh the costs of production and the possible profits to gauge if the product is worth making. By planning out contingency, tactical, and operational plans it allows the company to form a more precise strategic plan. The strategic plan is the main layout of the overall plan. Boeing is a super company must be sure they stay in line with laws and regulations. Many factors affect both the present and the future of Boeing. It depends on how the company wants to deal with issues and correct those for the success of the corporation. Because the competition is so high in the aerospace industry, Boeing has to be on top of its game by staying well-organized and successful at pleasing consumers. They also need to make sure that the company is appealing stockholders, customers, and other contracting companies otherwise they consumers will stop doing business with Boeing. Because Boeing is a global organization it creates an impact around the world.
