"Thud". You hear a sound so you turn around, but don't see anything. "Thud." There it is again. You walk closer with your hands out but you still can't see anything. "Thud." It makes a noise and you reach a wall. You move your hands up the wall onto this circular shape sticking out from the wall itself. You touch the shape and find two sticks in the center pointing out wards. One is pointing straight up while the other is positing out towards the right. You follow these hands and reach to what they're pointing at, dots. You feel these dots and you immediately knows what it means. It's three o'clock. You're blind and what you were feeling was a Braille clock. The thuds were there to inform you to check the time.
Those who were blind, were often left behind. They would almost never be as successful as those who could see. This was true, until the invention of Braille, which gave a light of hope to those who were blind. a 15 year old Louis Braille from Coupvray, France, liberated them from the world of darkness.

It has become a writing system for those who are blind. Since the invention of Braille, thousands of books have been translated using the system to give the blind the same experience. A girl named Helen Keller, who was both blind and deaf, learned Braille and was finally able to communicate with people outside her family. She told the world of her life, of her thoughts and feelings. She became an inspiration to millions of people, and without Braille, she might still be trapped with in the walls of darkness.
In 1998 through 1999, there were approximately 55,200 legally blind children in the United States. Tens of thousands of children who before never had a chance to read and experience the wonders of reading a book now could, thanks to the Braille system. They can now pick up a book and go read whenever they want to. They can now tell time thanks to Braille on their watch and even read signs with Braille printed on them. The blind can now take care of themselves and communicate without any help from anyone else. The blind have been liberated from a world of darkness.
Not only could the blind now read books, but they can now read music. Many musicians in the past have been blind. A notable one would be Ray Charles, who said “Learning to read music in Braille and play by ear helped me develop a [very] good memory.” His music inspired millions around the world and gave them peace. This would not have happened without the invention of Braille. Braille has opened up many new doors for the blind and as long as it is used, will continue to.
Now, what are these new doors you ask? Like I mentioned earlier, the blind can now read, which means they Re able to obtain more knowledge. They can now expand there education with out a problem at all. Now that the can get a better education, this means even more employment options are available. They can now get out and achieve their dreams. Say a blind person wanted to become a teacher, well now the possibility of that went up. He or she is now able to read and gain knowledge to teach others. They are no longer trapped in darkness but are now presented with a light that they to can now share thanks to the knowledge they gained with the help of the Braille system.
