...days Dr. Ramon Del Rosario was talking to the school board and got his idea approved. They decided that starting the next semester they want every student in a uniform and if the students are defiant and don’t wear it there will be disciplinary action taken by the administrators. Our principle will give a speech at the next assembly telling all you students the new news about the uniforms. He will be telling you guys that he has informed all the nearby stores that they will need to stock up on grey polo shirts and khaki pants and to put them on sale so that every student at Sweetwater can go buy their uniforms for the new semester. On the other hand when all of you guys are in your new uniforms there will be less gang violence which will bring a better representation to our school. If the gang members that were causing problems to all the other student stop coming to school then its better for everyone else because they can focus on their school work without being terrified of being hurt by a gang member or a bad student that has bad grades and goes to school to mess with...

...“Bring Back the Sun”: The Historical Significance of the Castrati Chuck Harris Music 425 Dr. HM Lewis December 15, 2009 The Castrato has long been a subject shrouded in controversy and mystery. Castration has been used in many cultures and religions since the dawn of time (Eunuchs). We don’t know exactly when castration started to be used specifically for the voice but we have records dating back to the 16th century. These documents hint towards it being done because of Christianity. This paper will look at one Castrato in particular, Carlo Broschi more commonly known as, Farinelli. I will use the film Farinelli and other historical and educational articles and books to help discuss this paper. One of the final scenes of Farinelli, Il Castrato, dir. Gerard Corbiau (Sony Pictures Classics, 1994), shows a solar eclipse witnessed, eighteenth-century style, by members of the court of Philip V of Spain around 1740. Restless spectators squint through pieces of tinted glass prepared in the smoke of a small fire. It is a precious visual detail, a jolt of history in this sumptuously though often inaccurately detailed film that offsets the melodrama to follow. Without warning, a wind, helped along by corny, time-lapse photography, ushers in a sea of Goya-like clouds. A murmur passes through the entourage; eerie blackness falls on the court. The King is shrouded in another kind of darkness: his famous, chronic melancholy (we would call it 'clinical depression'). He pronounces...

...FEATURE: Library brings hope to Pingtung County village SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN:The library was relocated and modernized with the help of residents and a generous donation from the Buddhist Fo Guang Shan Foundation By Lee Li-fa and Stacy Hsu / Staff reporter, with staff writer [pic] 1 A boy reads in the Sunflower Library in Terong Village in Pingtung County’s Changjhih Township earlier this month. Photo: Li Li-fa, Taipei Times Taipei Times – A boy reads in the Sunflower Library in Terong Village in Pingtung County's Changjhih Township earlier this month. Photo: Li Li-fa, Taipei Times Named after a flower that symbolizes vitality and hope, the Sunflower Library in Terong Village (德榮) in Pingtung County's Changjhih Township (長治) is more than an ordinary library. Having survived the brunt of storms and frequent flooding, it has become an embodiment of the power of love and collective effort. The establishment of the library stemmed from a tragedy involving a young girl surnamed Huang (黃), who died in a car accident a decade ago while cycling to a downtown library to return some library books. At the time, the village did not have a library, which was why the young girl had to cycle a long distance to borrow books. Saddened by this misfortune, Lee Chen-wei (李鎮衛), who then served as a village coordinator, resolved to take action and push forward with the creation of a library in the remote community. The proposal was encouraged by Lee's wife, Tsai...

...My name is Patrick Kowner the second. My father’s name was also Patrick and my mother’s name is Siobhan. As a young lad, I wanted to feel the grasp of money and to always have money in my short and empty pockets. This is why I took the opportunity to go to America. The only way to get myself to America was by ship. I am a poor Irishman who can only afford to get anything by stealing. I am known by the names of PM or Patrick mugger or “mugtrick”. A young man, wearing a fine fitted suit, with blonde and silky hair with white dazzling skin was strolling on our dusty and old street in the most graceful and elegant ways. The sun had never grinned at our road. It had always punished the street with its aching and unforgivable heat. As I went to see what valuables he had in his wide pockets, I saw that he dropped an envelope of some sort. I went to tell him; however, I waited and thought for a second... I had thought to myself that maybe on the floor was a cheque or an envelope full of money so I waited as he passed and then I swooped down to the floor like an eagle and took the envelope. Feeling relieved I opened it... As I felt its rough texture on the palm of my dirty hands, I gasped in shock to find... A piece of paper? I read it and I saw my dream had finally come true: this piece of paper told my destiny; that piece of paper was none other than a ticket for America! I could finally travel to America in style by ship!!! When I read the name of the ship I gasped in...

...American history, the Revolutionary and Civil war, you will see that they both were started because of conflicting idea's. Let's first look at the Revolutionary war which brought Independence to America. The reason it was fought was not for this reason only, but one of the major reason's was the colonies didn't want to be taxed without representation, which conflicted with the idea's of the British Empire. Did this war bring peace? Well it depends on which side of the war you were on. If you were on the colonies side then yes the Revolutionary war brought independence and more peace than there was before the war except for the lose of lives, which is always a factor of war. If you were on the British Empire side then no the war did not bring peace. The war was lost along with the 13 colonies and lives were lost. Now lets look at the Civil war. Another war that was fought over conflicting idea's. The North wanted to end slavery which conflicted with the South idea of wanting to keep slavery. After the war was fought slavery was ended. Did this war bring peace? Again it all depends on the side of the war you were on. If you were on the North side then peace was won, bit if you were on the South side then there was no peace. The South lost its idea of slavery while the North gained freedom for slaves. The second issue of war is who is fighting the war. When it comes to war there is always, in simple terms, a good guy and a...

...Money brings Illusion In East and West Egg, money can virtually buy anything you need. Take for example Gatsby and his lavish, extravagant parties. At one point in the story Nick comments that he might be one of the few guests that were actually invited to the party and didn’t just show up. The first party that Nick actually attends does indeed seem like a sort of piece of theatre that is happening around him and Gatsby. The guests are in a flurry of increasingly drunken activity around him and he seems to become somewhat of a spectator to the whole activity. For Gatsby, the reason for throwing the party is only to attract Daisy his true love. Gatsby’s home is a manifestation of his wealth, and however many priceless items he buys to show off with he is still living in a fantasy. Looking at Gatsby’s library that Nick stumbles into during one of his parties, some of the guests were very shocked to find out that the books were actually real and that the pages were not just blank. Although the books were real they are merely a facade; the only purpose is displaying Gatsby’s wealth, the reason for almost all of Gatsby’s actions. East and West Egg are two different worlds, completely separate from reality. The inhabitants of these two worlds are caught up in thinking that reality is based on money and wealth. The fact is that Nick is the only character that is able to realize that the lives that they are all living is fantasy and not real. Just underneath the surface of their...

...Death brings out Life You never fully recover from a hard loss. I mean, I guess all loss is rough but when its your father, I feel like its just a tad harder. I will never be able to get my old life back. Back when I was carefree, happy and on top of the world. But one night can change everything. I don’t like to talk about but if I don’t, I will probably have a huge burden on my heart (at least thats what my mom says). So of course it was a rainy day like every other cliche death, of course we were driving, and of course I was the driver. Long story short, I was driving too fast, swerved, and hydroplaned off of the road. The next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital with my mom crying over me. There was so much commotion and the only memorable part was the fact that all of the nurses kept saying that we should be happy that my father died instantly. Because that is definitely something that I should be happy about! Does it sound like I am bitter? Do I sound mad? Thats probably because I am! Being in the hospital was the easy part. Going back home and even back to school was the worst part. It was like the whole town was watching my family’s every move. Then I realized that my mom blamed me for everything. She never came right out and said it, but I just knew. I couldn’t forgive myself. I left my mom without a husband and my younger sister without a father. I ruined all of our lives and it killed me inside. Even my Grandma told me that I was the cause of his...

...Bring Your Own Devices Bring your own device (BYOD) is a key topic in today's professional organizations. There are several benefits for organizations that allow BYOD that reflect productivity within the workforce as well as employee/employer work experience. With these benefits also come substantial risks involved with allowing such devices within the confines of buildings. These risks might include information security concerns, operational security concerns, and overall networking security. These concerns arise throughout all organizations, especially government organizations and major corporate retailers in light of recent cyber-attacks. BYOD is a major security topic in today's social market. Benefits offered to organizations that allow BYOD can span many different areas in the workplace. Productivity can be enhanced by allowing employees to transport work to their home device in order to complete a time-sensitive task after close of business or while traveling. BYOD might also allow the employer to save on equipment costs such as an intricate telephony network by allowing employees to use personal cellular phones for business contacts. Personal storage devices might also allow the employer to save on network storage devices for certain departments within the organization. Employee work experience may also be enhanced by allowing employees to have a personal communication device that is included in many emergency contacts information such as child care, hospitals, and doctors'...

...Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Marriage is What Brings Us Together Today The divorce revolution, which simply means the progressive replacement of the marriage culture by the divorce culture is prevalent in the American society. This has subsequently created profound hardships for children, and has fallen short on delivering on its mirage promise of a better adult happiness. This divorce revolution has been a trend that has been inculcated in the American culture for years on end. As seen in the two movies “The Parent Trap” of 1961 and its remake “The Parent Trap” of 1998, the subject of divorce remains prevalent and the storyline remains the same. However, it is worth noting that a marital union is vital for families to be cemented together as opposed to separation and divorce. The two movies talk of two twins who met at a holiday camp. Their parents were divorced and each lived with either parent in separate places. None had seen the other and it is only a situation which makes them notice the remarkable resemblance they both shared and after they shared about their lives, they both came to know that they were twin sisters and that their parents had divorced. The remake of “The Parent Trap” a 1961 film shows that little has changed in the American society concerning child custody, and divorce issues. The holistic issue of divorce as seen in the movie has assumed the form of convenience. In the event of some form of misunderstanding and “irreconcilable” differences, most...

...How to bring down a dictator By Abebe Gellaw | May 29, 2012 Editor's Note - The following paper by Abebe Gellaw was first published in March 2011. Given its timelessness, the paper is being published for the second time. “Freedom is not free; you have to pay for it.” Anonymous In May 2005, over 2 million Ethiopians came out in full force to demand change Imagine the power all these people wield collectively when they decide to act together for radical change, dignity and freedom Nonviolent struggle is a smart option for Ethiopians to end tyranny As ordinary Egyptians have erupted in jubilant euphoria at Tahrir Square and on the streets of Egypt after the fall of the three-decade long dictator Hosni Mubarak, Ethiopians in and outside of the country have been keenly watching the wind of change from North Africa. We have witnessed history unfolding once again. When people are determined to be free, nothing can stop them. After an epic struggle against him, Mubarak had no choice but to surrender. The world is a better place with the fall of one more dictator. What a beautiful moment to celebrate and watch! The momentous events in Egypt and Tunisia are testimony to the power of nonviolent struggle. When people are united and speak in one voice, nothing can stop them. No guns and tanks have stopped the peaceful revolutions that have ended tyranny and ushered in liberation to ordinary people in many countries across the world. Ethiopians also know what revolutions are like. But...

...I personally do not think "Bring Your Dog to Work" is a good idea. There are alot of reasons not to do this, the main one is having a dog around is a distraction, little work will be completed with dogs around. For starters, some people don't like dogs, some people have dog allergies. This will cause problems in the workplace. People will start having health issues, people won't come in to work because the dogs are causing them distress or there just to sick with their allergies. Having dogs just walk around the office or leashed up isn't a good idea, anyway. Dogs need attention, alot. When they don't get attention, they start to misbehave and start chewing stuff up, barking, cause a scene, you catch the drift. Another thing...

As of today, when it is posible connect to different cloud services and harness the power of personal device to perform the work steps, literally holding the phone, and the range of devices has become a truly enormous, sometimes for an employee computer standing on his desk has no value. BYOD (bring your own device) – is a term that describes a situation where an employee of organization instead of corporate computer uses to run his own device, whether it is his personal laptop, tablet, or, in extreme cases, even a smartphone.
