Ethics Some ethical issues engage factors that blur individual perceptions linking “right” and “wrong”. As a end result, some employees can differ in their opinions about what is ethical or unethical in a variety of situations (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011, p. 34). In the case How Personal Can Ethics Get Valerie Young faces the dilemma of exposing her immediate boss Lionel Waters of this unethical behavior. Her dilemma is seen as more than a matter of having integrity or ethics but as a matter of living as she was or going back to her native country. Valerie had to consider everything when making the decision or not to shed the light on her superior’s lack of ethics. Ethics are values and principles that help individuals distinguish right from wrong (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011, p. 34). Doing the right or the wrong thing was not the only issue Valerie had to consider when she found out the wrong doings of her boss, she had to also consider other people’s lives, careers, and friendships. Personal differences and preferences can and will affect any organization ethically, and in this case the boss’s doings would expose him and the company in a bad light. The company, her boss, her co-workers, and her life all lay in Valerie’s hands, what is she to do with what she knows?
Organizational Ethics In order for an organization or company to operate there, has to be some set goals, objectives, and regulations that have to be followed by all members who are in association with this organization? To build positive and beneficial relationships with the organization you have to share the same beliefs and attitudes as its members and leaders.
