...TRIDENT UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL NAME BUS303 Business Communication MODULE 4: Integration and Reflection Assignment: Self Reflective Course Essay INSTRUCTOR: This Business Communication course has helped me overcome my fear of entering the real world and preparing for my military retirement. Being in the service for all of these years will place a small amount of fear regarding entering the civilian workforce because of the leadership style you are taught in the military. However, with the tools I have gained from this class; I feel that my transition from military life to the civilian sector will be easier than I thought. We as military personnel have learned how to wear a uniform properly and how to greet personnel with respect but we have not been taught how to properly prepare for retirement. When asked to write a resume in this course, I felt this assignment would be a challenge because the first thing I thought about was “the future”. Asking myself what exactly does my own future have in store for me and how do I prepare. Immediately, I took this assignment serious; gathering my thoughts to put into my resume because what if there was no tomorrow for me in the U.S. Navy; what if I had to get out today “what would I do”. I really enjoyed this assignment along with the cover letter because it challenged me to “think, what if” and “how do I prepare”, so this really hit home for me. “The Tips for Writing Resumes” was a great source to refer to for this...

...Performance Appraisals Gwendolyn Thomas BUS303: Human Resources Management (BAL1434A) Kevin Righter September 8, 2014 Performance Appraisals Employee performance appraisals are an important part of any business whether a small business or a large corporation. Performance appraisals are beneficial to not only the employees but also to the organization in that they help refine goals, and create open communication between the employer and employee. Employee performance appraisals are an effective way to improve the employee’s performance in that they show strengths and weakness and offer the employee insight in how to improve their work so that they can strive to do better for the next appraisal. To show how the appraisals are effective I will discuss strategic advantages of performance appraisals, potential forms of bias within the appraisal system, and how performance appraisals can contribute to the achievement of strategic objectives. An employer needs to understand the benefits and risks of providing performance feedback to their employees. There can be boundless advantages of using performance appraisals and should be considered fundamental in the strategic management of any organization. In today’s world there are many companies that use employee appraisals to strategically support company goals and values, and affiliate employee performance with the company mission. Succession planning is one very important area that performance appraisals serve. Succession...

...The Role of Human Resources Management XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX BUS303: Human Resources Management XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX 27 XXX 2014 Human Resources – better known as the backbone of all businesses – leads the way for company success. This brainchild is not just responsible for recruitment and payroll; they are accountable for every employee within the organization, to include training, mentoring, and guidance. Plus, they maintain incredible amounts of knowledge in order to ensure compensation and benefits, affirmative action, safety and health, equal employment opportunity, and employee and labor relations all work in harmony. Human Resources is continually evolving on many diverse levels, facing challenges – both internally and externally – that cause them to constantly engage, adjust, realign, and/or refocus to safeguard associate morale and confidence in the company they work for. After all, “human assets (HR associates) are the only ones capable of managing all the other assets (employees) to accomplish organizational goals” (Youssef, C.M. 2012). We’ve learned how HR planning is “the process of managing an organization’s most valuable asset – its people”. HR must ensure there are not too few – or too many – workers; and they must assist managers with employees and jobs so that the organization works harmoniously in reaching its goals. HR must carefully analyze and review jobs, fill those positions with talented individuals that come from a pool of applicants, continually work...

...Effective Human Resources Management Name BUS303: Human Resources Management Instructor Date . Effective Human Resource Management In this paper I will describe some attributes of an effective human resource management strategy and how to communicate that strategy. How will the strategy unfold? Will I lead by setting a good example? Will I have to make decisions that are not very popular with the staff and employees? If I am not the one in charge, will I set an example of leadership by following to the best of my ability? Will my leadership style be respected? Will I make decisions that reflect the best interest of the employees, peers, those appointed over me, and the customers? All this will be a challenge and test how I am seen as a leader. These questions will not be answered in the next few pages. However, in the years of experience that will follow this class and the many leaders that I will try to emulate as my knowledge of human resources unfolds. I want to be an effective leader, I read in our text; the experience and leadership style of the operating manager or leader directly affect human resource management activities because many, if not most, programs must be implemented at the work-unit level. Thus, the operating manager or leader is a crucial link in the human resource management function. Leaders must orchestrate the distinctive skills, experiences, personalities, and motives of individuals. Leaders also must facilitate the interactions that...
