Collaboration
Recently, I had to partake in a group project for my class. The groups were chosen randomly by our professor. Our group was an informal group because we all attended the same class and were matched randomly. We had similarities because we were all finance majors. I will discuss our group according to alternative model for temporary groups with deadlines.
The first stage was to set the group’s direction. We all had to agree on a certain time that we were all available. We met at that specific time and discussed how we should approach the project. What components did we have to present? Who will be doing what? What should we call our group? We decided to call our group Investors Trade Secrets LLC, which helped us think of ourselves as part of a group. In addition, we had to identify one person as the leader of our group for group purposes. We each went around the group and presented why we should be the group leader. In the end, we all agreed that Jessica should be our group leader. After the first meeting our group became lazy. We postponed our next meeting numerous times because of time conflicts afflicting a group member. However, as soon as the midpoint of our deadline reached, we became more frantic. There was less time, and we knew we had to work. We all agreed that we definitely had to meet up soon and we decided when. This time everyone showed up.
As time progressed, we worked more diligently on our project .We all wanted our presentation to be successful. We put in a lot of time and effort but were nowhere close to being finished. In addition, our project deadline was coming up. We were time constraint, which kept us up all night. Our group wanted to finish this as soon as possible. We decided to split the work in parts. We were able to do this through google document. Whenever a member in the group had an issue

Groupware Systems and Organizational Activities They Support

...systems implementation has led to the problem of cooperation between companies to reach their goals and successfully operate in the current market environment. The rising demand for collaboration software has led to the groupware market expansion. Collaborative software has influenced the expansion of enterprises by improving the effectiveness of a range of tools such as the ability to communicate over long distances. This software had a significant impact on expansion of enterprises and increased efficiency of its work, for example, the communication over long distances. Along with development of technologies, the way workers operate in organisations has completely changed. Monotonous and time consuming tasks can be easily solved using the computer. Consequently, this change led to increase in the number of “knowledge workers”, workers, whose main capital is knowledge (Davenport, Thomas, 2005). Organisations more often require employees, who have the skill and experience of working within a team. Obviously, teamwork has a significantly greater efficiency, especially in solving complex and comprehensive tasks. Workers can pool their knowledge and skills, leveraging the strengths of each employee. Moreover, team members can independently assess work of each other and find errors faster. Collaboration software, or groupware, is a generic term for the information systems that give a group of people an ability to pursue joint activities, for example, to create...

The country just passed election 2012; regardless of who we voted for the most important part is the ads are gone. Scope Introduction Procter & Gamble (P&G), first introduced a great tasting mouthwash that was minty green and sure to fight off bad breath, called Scope in 1967. In 1990, Scope led the Canadian market share with 32%. However, since 1988 when Pfizer Inc. launched a new mouthwash called Plax, it became Scopes’ major competitor. Plax offered something different from the typical mouthwashes. Plax had the advantage over other brands because not only did it offer fresh breath and killing germs, but it was also a plaque fighter. Gwen Hearst, brand manager, is in charge of increasing market share, volume, and profits for Scope. Marketing Issues First, does Scope intend on introducing a new line extension by developing a product that strictly focuses on fighting plaque. This must be done in a way not to mistake the customer into thinking that there are additional claims to the original product. Second, add new claims to the already existing product. This would state something like “Scope not only gives fresh breath and kills germs, but it also fights plaque.” Or third, take no action but would need to focus on increasing...

Collaboration

...INTRODUCTION Partnerships are defined by the Audit Commission (1998) as “joint working arrangements where parties are otherwise independent bodies who agree to co-operate to achieve common goals, create a new organisational structure or process to achieve these goals, plan and implement a joint programme and share relevant information, tasks and rewards”. Stern and Green (2005) clarify the definition of partnerships further as programmes that have “a high level of commitment, mutual trust, equal ownership and the achievement of a common goal, as distinct from networks which involve sharing information or other resources but not for the explicit purpose of joint working”. Definitions are particularly significant to the topic of this essay, as the component characteristics of partnerships as set out above are often overlooked by organisations and individuals when approaching the delivery of activities ‘in partnership’. In theory, partnership involves collaborative working where people pool ideas and expertise, so the leadership, energy and services produced are greater than the sum of their individual capabilities. It also requires re-thinking the remit or boundaries of organisations within which leadership is to be distributed and respected. This is particularly relevant when considering partnerships to deliver single outcome agreements that have previously been the responsibility of one body, or several bodies in isolation. These are challenges to which public sector...

...of them. Danone is a French food and beverage conglomerate and signed an agreement with the Hangzhou Wahaha Group in 1996, a Chinese beverage company, to set up a series of joint ventures in China. The partnership was established to market products under the Wahaha brand name. Ultimately, the agreement resulted into thirty-nine joint ventures. Those joint ventures were hugely profitable as the Wahaha brand became a household name in China. In spite of these successes, the relationship started to deteriorate. After years of court battles, Danone finally pulled out of the JV and ended this partnership with Wahaha. Based on the case study, this essay will firstly analyze Danone’s market entry mode and limitations of this mode. Subsequently, this essay will discuss contributions of both Wahaha and Danone in this relationship. Finally, this essay will present reasons for the Danone-Wahaha dispute and lessons derived from this dispute. Danone’s market entry mode Danone entered the Chinese market selling consumer drink products, including fruit juice, dairy products and bottled water, all with Chinese joint venture partners who were market leading brands in China. A joint venture is a special type of strategic alliance, which requires establishing a firm jointly owned by two or more otherwise independent firms (Hill, Wee and Udayasankar, 2012). Danone and Wahaha in this case are the two strategic partners to establish joint ventures together. Danone chose to create joint ventures in...

...reasons why I choose this subject of how the world is not encouraging economic growth, was because of urban rap artist J Cole. He is a perfect example that I can not only relate to but understand how he lived. J Cole (Jermaine Cole) any many of his interviews he talks about the exact type of equality of chance of growth I am introducing. By telling his personal story though his music and the interviews, gives me a greater insight on how I have been taught as a kid my whole life. As he also introduces the manner that the people of different business are being used as a slavery image, I can transverse that to fit my essay. Everything aspect that J Cole went through was a exact match to what my father warned me about this world before I had to experience it. J Cole offers the same mind set as well as, compatible to my design for this essay, to show proof that my raised ideas and J Coles ideas are all happening today in this economy. Through this essay I will also incorporate some of Paul Krugman’s, the positives, the things I agreed with as well as the things the outer world doesn’t agree with. His txt will add a different type of noticing that equality is not being demonstrated properly. His...

Collaboration

...In 1995, I was commissioned by the Pew Partnership for Civic Change to study how collaboration was being used in the United States to build and strengthen community. While there are many forms of collaboration, my research focused on one type in particular—the kind carried out by individuals, groups and organizations in the public sphere. This form of collaboration can be described as a process of shared decision-making in which all the parties with a stake in a problem constructively explore their differences and develop a joint strategy for action. This essay appears in 'On Collaboration' — a collection edited by Marie Bak Mortensen and Judith Nesbitt (London: Tate, 2012). My report on the subject (from which the following essay has been adapted) generated a surprising amount of attention when it appeared. It was widely cited in books and publications and reprinted in several monographs. After concluding the study, I went on to observe and work with collaborative teams across America as well as study community leaders who practice collaboration as part of their community development work. I found that collaboration can be a powerful alternative to conventional mechanisms for effecting change, such as coalitions, task forces, and commissions. Traditional groups and organizations tend to be structured vertically. Decisions are made at the top and people derive their influence and authority from their positions within the hierarchy. This is especially true in professional...
