...Peel Region is named for the father of modern policing, Sir Robert Peel. His philosophy can be captured in the phrase, "The police and community are one". That belief is exemplified today by Peel Reginal Police's community-based policing, with officers working closely with the public to solve local problems and improve the quality of life for all of the people of the region. Sir Robert Peel the oldest son of a wealthy cotton manufacturer, he was educated at Harrow and Oxford, and with his fathers money, a parliamentary seat was found for him as soon as he became of age in 1809. One year later he was appointed undersecretary for war and colonies. Two years later he accepted the difficult position of chief secretary for Ireland. It was during this term in Ireland that he introduced the Act of Parliament which would bring about the formation of the Irish Peace Preservation Force. On his return to England he accepted the post of secretary for the home department and a seat in the Cabinet. His first task was to meet the long-standing demands for a comprehensive reorganization of the criminal code. Rising crime statistics proved to him that there should be some improvement in the methods of crime prevention. To this end, in 1829 he brought about the Metropolitan Police Act and with it the first disciplined police force for Greater London. They soon became known as Bobby's boys or "bobbies". The very first police officers in what would become Peel Region were actually in place in...

...Question 1:__________________________________________________________________________ There are many key issues pressing on Canadians for a wide variety of reasons. One of the largest and most debated issues is the Canadian Healthcare system. The main concerns of both the government and the people are the extraordinary costs that are required by tax payers to maintain the system. Another concern is the long wait times required by patients due to the ease of access to healthcare. I have some suggestions to not only save money, but also to reduce wait times. My first suggestion is to increase the budget for homecare and senior care. Senior citizens make up a very large portion of healthcare patients. Increasing financial support of homecare could reduce the number of hospitalized seniors by providing in home support in the form of Personal Support Workers, Registered Practical Nurse’s, Registered Nurse’s and visiting doctors. The average cost of a hospitalization for one day is $7,000. By providing visiting nursing/ doctors we could reduce that cost to $25-$500 per day depending on the care needed. A second suggestion would be to introduce the very much debated 2-tier system (allowing private hospitals, in addition to the public hospitals currently in place). By introducing this system, all patients would...

They are highly recognized for their diversity and inclusion strategies and rank third in the top 50 list of companies for diversity (DiversityInc, 2014). “Canada is considered one of the most multicultural countries in the world” (The Conference Board of Canada, 2014) and the first to adopt a multicultural policy (Citizenship and Immigration Canada, 2012) creating a synergistic relationship to promote diversity policies and practices for economic growth.   DIVERSITY IN CANADA Canada is the world’s most ethnically diverse and tolerant society with over 200 ethnic origins (Evans, 2013) which has affected the diversity mix of its workforce. To navigate the effects of these changes Canada has taken deliberate steps to leverage the advantages presented by a highly diverse population and to mitigate the associated challenges. According to Jacobson one of the major challenges Canada faces is the complexities of increasing cultural diversity due to the changing demographics of its population and domestic labour shortfalls. Canadian statistics predict that by 2025 Generation Y (millennials) will account for 75% of the world’s workforce (Jacobsen, 2014), by 2031 29 to 32 percent of Canadians will belong to a visible minority group ("persons, other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in...

Methods of Recruitment

...Methods of recruitment and selection and its impact on corporate culture and processes. Human resources are like natural resources; they’re often buried deep. You have to go looking for them; they are not just lying around on the surface. -Ken Robinson “…while extraordinary products and unique services still afford a competitive advantage, the one advantage that stand the test of time… is people.” -Mark Salsbury, Human Capital Management: Leveraging your Workforce for competitive advantage. Creating and sustaining a corporate culture that truly emphasizes people starts with hiring a particular kind of person. Locating, attracting, and hiring people that thrive within an organization is always a challenge, regardless of size of the company, industry, or state of the economy. “Having right people at right time at right place” is the key to the success of every organization. Therefore, recruitment and selection is considered to be the central function of Human Resources Management. Today more than ever, organizations, given the latest technology and physical assets, cannot compete without having its qualified, rare, and unique talent supply. Acquiring and optimizing a talented workforce is a strategic process that begins with planning and continues throughout the recruitment process. “Recruitment is a process of identifying and attracting a group of potential candidates from within and outside the organization to evaluate for employment.” It entails...

...and unjust treatment towards having no right or say in how the country was run. This is when the suffrage movement was born. After much conflict and opposition, women had won the right to vote and stand for election to the House of Commons in 1918. Women receiving the right to vote allowed them to have more involvement in politics and their society. By women achieving the right to vote in Canada it allowed women for the first time in Canadian history, to be appointed as senates and other positions of authority in politics and the running of the country. The mining value chain presented demonstrates the formation of a mining company to the extraction of the natural resources. Further investigation shows that the mining structure is an oligopoly. Methods of analysis include an environmental analysis using PEST and a stakeholder map, which focus on the performance of a world-renowned mining company TransAlta. The finding is that management’s role is to have efficiency and productivity while maintaining ethical practices. Ethical theories are then used to look at the social, environmental and economical impacts of the Canadian industry. It is concluded that each ethical theory presents a favorable solution to each impact. Social corporate responsibility is evaluated in the last ten years in Canada and around the globe.
