...CAREER PLAN BUILDING Name MGT/521 June 3, 2013 DENNIS BOEDEKER CAREER PLAN BUILDING Understanding ones strengths is very important to grow as a communicator and manager. By knowing what competencies he or she excels in, they can use them as an advantage at home and in the workplace. In my case, the career plan building activity showed my strongest competency to be innovation. In order to be a successful manager; one must embrace new ideas and change with technology. Although it is comfortable to stick with what works, it is important to make sure to filter in new ideas and continue to get better. Entrepreneurial thinking is one of my weakest competencies according to the career plan building activity. I would have to agree with this considering I hate to take risk. I love to innovate and try new ideas as long as there is no risk. This is definitely an area that I need to work on as a manager. It is so easy to invest on a sure thing, but sometimes some initiative and the need to take a chance is a necessity. In closing, I think all of my competencies need to be worked on to become a better communicator. The career plan building activity scored me high for innovation and average for all my other competencies. New to the area of management, it is obvious I have a large amount of work to strengthen my communication skills. Instead of staying content in a practical job, I think I need to step out of the box to enhance my future. The career planner should guide...

The strength of your competencies is what will give you employees that warm fuzzy feeling because they trust in your knowledge and position. Being a strong communicator will help you succeed professionally as well as in life. Sometimes when it comes to communicating, I can be a little detached. Other occasions I can be straightforward and intimidating. A lot of times people tend to shut down when they feel that they are dealing with someone who is aggressive. It is not my intension to seem aggressive, but at the same time I guess people who feel that way is somewhat weak in there competencies. I would have to dial back my approach to people when it comes to communicating and to have more patience in receiving information or feedback. Other times I feel that I need to communicate a little more. I am not big on people in general. So I would say that I am anti-social to a certain existent. Although I feel that I am an all around individual, there is always something that needs work. I cannot...

...4/29/13 Gloria Flores MGTP 521 CAREER PLAN BUILDING ACTIVITIES According to some behavioral research, it has been proved that most effective people are those who are able to understand themselves. This people are usually able to develop strategies to meet the demand of their environments because they know their strengths and weaknesses. By understanding my personal competencies, I will be able to somehow measure I. How I would respond to problems and challenges II. How I influence others by expressing my point of view III. How I would respond to the peace of the environment IV. How I would respond to rules and procedures set by others Most people are aware of and sensitive to the ways with which they prefer to be communicated. I am conscious that if I am able to communicate with other people I will succeed in any industry. I could begin by developing a chart where I include a description of the typical people in which I might interact. Also, I might have to practice some flexibility in varying my communication style with others that may be different from myself. This flexibility and the ability to interpret the needs of others is the mark of a superior communicator. For instance, when communicating with a person who is dependent, neat, conservative, perfectionist, careful and compliant: • Prepare my case in advance • Stick to business • Be accurate and realistic Factors that will...

Career matches would be something in an artistic, media, or social scene, where being persuasive, strategizing, and adhere to values will benefit having to recognize one of the most common mistakes, which is the reasoning. Believing in the person making the claim or believing the actual claim. There is some detective work involved, if there is a party of interest that will make a profit by spreading inconsistent information, it can involve risk taking but doing the research and finding a reliable source will make better critical decisions. Career competencies can help evaluate arguments by applying expertise theoretically and practical to distinguish from someone that is exaggerating the truth and trying to persuade them to accept they claim they are making without any relevant facts. Taking initiative and being responsible for one’s own actions, making clear and quick decision, doing the research to find the facts and not taking another’s word for it. I have come to the understanding that I have a lot of room for growth and I need to continue to develop and practice my critical thinking skills, especially if I am wanting to pursue my degree in Human Resource Management. The career interests and competency assessments have shown that the passions I possess are on target with achieving my goals. ...Running head: CAREER PLAN BUILDING ACTIVITY Career Plan Building Activity Tiffany East BCOM/275 3/11/14 Dr. Joanne Tritsch Career Plan Building Activity I took the Career Interest Profiler quite a while back. I do not recall the testing method, but while viewing the results I do recall the impression it left on me. According to my results, I was assigned conventional, social, and realistic aptitudes. I agree with this assessment; the description seemed to describe the needs in my current career. According to the profile, “conventional occupations frequently involve following set procedures and routines” (University of Phoenix, 2014). In my role as a trainer and Continuous Improvement, this was my job description exactly. The Social Aspect perfectly aligns with my strong communication skills and mentoring roles I have adopted with many employees. The last of the profile indicated ‘realistic’ aptitude, which lends itself to “practical, hands-on problems and solutions” (University of Phoenix, 2014) which is also the goal of Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement. I cannot say I agreed with the career matches, but in all other aspects, the profile was correct. The Career Plan Building Activity: Competencies was completed a while ago, and I cannot recall the questions it uses to assess to competencies. The report does not provide detail, but I can comment on the results I have available. The highest competency...
