Hi my name is Kortne Noblett. I'm A 35 year old mother of two. I Live in northwest Arkansas, and for the last eight years, i have worked for a bio-metric testing company out of Pennsylvania. I have traveled all over the united states as a team lead for my company, performing lipid panel profiles for our clients. Basically drawing blood and running labs on their total cholesterol, HDL(good cholesterol) LDL(bad cholesterol), triglycerides, glucose levels and then gathering a BMI workup, and finally health coaching. I have always enjoyed helping others, so this job has been very rewarding to me in that sense. The negative side to my job however, was having two children at home. Not being home with them all the time was the most difficult part of my job.

The reason behind me leaving that job and pursuing a career in psychology is because I started going blind about 6 years ago. The doctors are still at a loss as to why I'm losing my sight. I Have been sent to several specialist and i still don't have any real answers. I Had hoped that we would have found the reason behind this and maybe given me a few more options; however i have had to start thinking about what my future will be like if and when I lose total use of my eye sight. My current profession will become more than I can manage if I am blind, so I have decided to change my profession to something that I not only will be able to use once blind; but also to something that I have been very passionate about most of my life. Psychology. Psychology is an area that I have always been fascinated with, along with helping others.

The career that I am most interested in using my bachelors degree and specialization for, will be in the realm of a behavioral therapist. I ideally would like to work with children. Working for a state agency such as DHS, or something similar; would give me an opportunity to possibly guide troubled children down a new path. One that inspires them to explore their emotions and find a positive and productive way to express themselves so that they can heal and move forward knowing that they have options to live a life different from what they have always known. Hopefully at the same time breaking the “cycle” and helping not only them, but the community as a whole.

I am excited about the new path this profession will lead me down. Allowing me many different avenues to contribute to my community as well as be able to still provide for myself and be as independent as i can be, if i become totally blind.

I'm anxious about all the obstacles that I will have to overcome while trying to pursue a new career while managing my current medical condition. I know that with all of the new changes I have going on in my life that I have to be very self motivated and dedicated to the schedule that I make for myself. I Feel like once I get a routine down that will allow me to manage my time and school work with my personal responsibilities that my experience here at Capella will be one of the best experiences and most rewarding for my future. I Hope that everyone else is able to achieve their goals and dreams.

Thank you for reading my post and taking the time to get to know a little about me. I look forward to reading your posts and getting to know some of you as well.

...Careers in Psychology Amy Garrow-Estrada BEH/225 October 05, 2014 Deanna Foley, instructor Careers in Psychology Over the years I have thought about a career in psychology a few times, but I do not think that it would work for me since it is not my true goal in life. Throughout my time in school though, I have found a few areas of psychology interesting, and believe that they could be beneficial for my career as a health care administrator. I found that the community psychologist role would be a good role to look into, along with the role of the developmental psychologist. Both of those careers hold the most interest for me, and what they can do for me to give back to the community and to the people that I plan to one day build my retirement home for. A community psychologist helps people to strengthen their abilities, and to meet their own personal needs. They help people to find the resources to help themselves, and to work with others to improve their lives and those around them. They strive to enhance a community, and find a way to empower the people to make a stronger community. They work with schools to prevent bullying, with neighborhoods to prevent crime, and they help to implement changes to policies to improve health outcomes. It is their job to show others how to work within their social systems to meet their needs. According to Education Portal, “Those interested in becoming community psychologists may begin their careers by completing...

Since that time the field has grown steadily, with an increased number of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training programs, more journals and books devoted to psychology and law, the development of a specialized set of ethical guidelines for forensic psychologists, a regular conference held every March in addition to the annual summer meeting at the American Psychological Association convention, the involvement of psychologists in filing amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court on issues relevant to psychology and law, and the presentation of a regular workshop series in clinical-forensic psychology by the American Academy of Forensic Psychology("Careers in Psychology," 2016). Salary Even in university and other interdisciplinary settings, however, there is growing pressure on psychologists to generate sources of salary support to repay the department or school. Psychologists entering correctional settings will find striking differences between different systems. The median annual salary in the Federal prison system was $40,900 in 2002.Salaries are likely to be slightly lower in a state correctional facility or local jail, although there can be a wide range of salary...

A few of the things that interest me about these two options would be; Social workers help individuals obtain perceptible services, provide counseling to individuals and families, and work to improve social and health services in the public. ...Psychology as a Career There are many career paths to choose from regarding psychology; the one I am most interested in is an LCADC. This stands for Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Many people who choose this area of psychology do not start off pursuing it. Schooling goes far beyond just a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is necessary (NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES, DIVISION OF ADDICTION SERVICES). The Master’s degree needs to be in counseling or addictions; an MA in Psychological Counseling—Addiction Studies Track. This also requires 33 credits in approved Masters Level courses. Along with a Master’s degree, one would need to complete 270 hours of approved coursework in alcohol and drug education classes from a State approved school or facility. There are strict rules which govern the coursework and all guidelines set forth by the State of New Jersey. Along with these courses, there are internship hours which must be fulfilled. All hours must be supervised by an LCADC who is approved by the state and consist of 3,000 general hours as well as 300 direct supervision hours. Lengthy applications must be sent to the state, showing all hours logged in and signed off by a licensed professional Another important part of obtaining an LCADC in the State of New Jersey is to attend 30 self-help meetings. These meetings must be 5 Narcotics Anonymous, 5 Alcoholics Anonymous, 5 Al-Anon Meetings and 5 other self-help meetings of your choosing. Attending...

...Psychology Careers Lisa Barnes May 3, 2015 BEH/225 Professor Nancy Ault Psychology is one of the most rewarding fields of study and work that can make a positive impact on both the psychologist and the individual or group of individuals seeking psychological therapy and advice. Although there are a variety of careers in the field of psychology, the two that I find most interesting are Behavioral Therapist and Environmental Psychologist. One focuses on the individual themselves while the other focus on their environment at home or work. The key components of both of these career fields is to provide a social setting for learning, information, and a safe environment with access to a variety of resources that can help people deal with personal issues. Behavior therapy is focused on helping an individual understand how changing their behavior can lead to changes in how they are feeling. (Herkov, 2013) Basically the goal in this type of therapy is to get the individual to participate in bettering themselves in a positive way, whether it be for themselves or socially. Many of these techniques include Role playing, scheduling of weekly activities, self-monitoring and behavior modification. This field is my top choice as I have grown interest in this field since my son was diagnosed with being on the Autism Spectrum. Many schools designed for Autism use ABA (applied behavioral analysis) which is a program of behavior therapy that helps the individual reach success in...
