Interview
Yaneth: Did your writing improve since starting college? How?
Basith: My writing has improved since I started college. I learned a lot of techniques to improve my writing the biggest one being writing multiple drafts. Also the feedback I get back from peers and professors helped express my thoughts and feeling in a way that others can relate to, understand easily, and perhaps change their views on things. Furthermore, I learned valuable information on sentence structure, writing styles, using proper tense in my writing, and improved my knowledge on using the right punctuation. I have also noticed an overall improvement in my vocabulary as well.
Yaneth: Why did you choose UIC?
Basith: I chose UIC for a couple of reasons. The first reason being the location and the convenience of staying at home instead of living in a dorm. The second reason being the diversity. UIC represents many different cultures and I have the opportunity to learn about them in various clubs and activities. Last but not least I was told the staff at UIC is really supportive, open to discussion about careers choices, academics performance, and personal issues too. I know I made the right choice because the professors are willing to help and there are many options for tutoring. …show more content…
Why?
Basith: My role model is James Harris Simons a retired hedge fund manager. I look up to James Simons because of success he has achieved. He was a mathematician, primarily working in the fields of geometry and topology. Over the course of his career, he collaborated with the National Security Agency to break codes and was a math professor at MIT. He eventually created Renaissance Technologies which made him a billionaire and is currently worth 18.5 billion. I admire James Simons for being able to predict the stock market and profit which is one of my life
