Definition of Controlling Controlling is a management function that involves comparing actual performance with planned performance and taking corrective action if needed, to ensure the objectives are achieved. Controlling involves ensuring that performance does not deviate from standards.
The management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling are widely considered to be the best means of describing the manager’s job.
