Ethics Groups and Discrimination

...Ethics Ethnic Groups and Discrimination YOUR NAME HERE ETH125 August 22, 2010 Vanessa A. Lee Ethnic Groups and Discrimination The group that I choose to do is German. German citizens immigrated to other European countries in the 1700’s to avoid extremely violent conditions, and not for political reasons, unlike most others. In 1709 about 15,000 people left for Britain and about 3,000 for America. By 1745 about 45,000 were living in Pennsylvania (Thinkquest, N/A). In the 1800’s Germans continued to immigrate into the US in very large numbers. Only a small number of Germans moved into larger cities. About one third of the agricultural industry was made up of German-born farmers. These farmers would sometimes forfeit more fertile ground to settle closer to other German farmers. Even in the cities, Germans would cluster into small communities. There they would form a smaller version of Germany. They would create prominent German businesses like breweries, bakeries, cigar makers, and so on. Women on the other hand would be working as house cleaners, laundry workers, nurses, peddlers and others, instead of factory work and clerks like their American counterparts (Thinkquest, N/A). In the 2000 census nearly one-sixth of the population in the US showed at least some German ancestry (Schaefer, 2004). Throughout my research I have found no evidence of any type of discrimination, including racism, segregation, or prejudice, possibly due to the large number of immigrants that...

Business Project Opportunity

...according to government economic census (Economic Census, 2012, p. 1). Although the business falls under this category, the primary function is geared toward providing hair products for minority men, woman, and children. Business Overview The Quad City Area (QCA) is a multi-cultural environment with “4,017 beauty salons, barbershops, hairdressers, and beauty schools” (Census. Gov., 2010, p. 1). A breakdown of the above total for beauty salons and barbershops data reveals that there are four beauty salons and two barber shops that are minority owned businesses in this region. According to research, these businesses purchase beauty products and hair supplies from venders in Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. Thus, operating this type of business in the QCA provides the targeted audiences of customer and operator needs. Monique’s Cosmopolitan Beauty and Hair Care, LLC clearly is a sustainable business with the competitive advantage in this market. Appendix A: Sample Cost of Doing Business Comparison, Quad Cities shows the cost of doing business in the QCA compared to Chicago and Los Angeles. QCA Profile The business opportunities in this region are ripe for the entrepreneur. According to the Quad Cities Demographic and Economic Profiles, the “population is 422,000 with 49.4% male and 50.7% female” (Quad City Chambers, 2013, p. 1). Buying Motives

...of the target population. It is often stated that while demographics determine consumers’ needs for products (e.g., males and females need and buy different products) and the ability to buy them (e.g., income), psychographics explain buyers’ purchase decisions and the choices they make within the buying options available to them (Schiffman & Kanuk, 2010). Marketing, Inc. will use age and income as its two demographics and buying motives and values as its two psychographics for this marketing communication plan. Demographics Demographics offer four reasons why they are the core to almost all segmentations; (1) demographics are easy to classify people and can be measured more precisely than other segmentation basis; (2) cost effective way to locate and reach specific segments because most of the secondary data compiled about any population is based on demographics; (3) demographics enable marketers to identify business opportunities enabled by shifts in populations’ age, income or geographic location; and (4) many consumption behaviors, attitudes, and media exposure patterns are directly related to demographics (Schiffman & Kanuk, 2010). For Example, TV shows and Radio shows are often gender specific and the programs often target a certain age which make these a valuable avenue to hit a target audience....

Global and Domestic Issues in the Food Supply Chain

...Global and Domestic Issues in the Food Supply Chain (Source: Roger W. Hutt, Arizona State University) High-value and processed foods, accounting for three-fourths of total world food sales have increased in response to consumers diversifying their diets or demanding higher-quality and labor-saving food products (Regmi and Gehlhar, 2005). More and more, consumers are asking for convenience, and the food system is responding. The relatively higher cost of a ready-to-serve bag of salad is preferable to a head of lettuce that must be trimmed and prepared. Demand for foreign brands and consumer-ready products, in particular, are expanding as well. Food producers and marketers are responding to the demands of the marketplace. Producers are investing in processing facilities in many host companies. Adjusting to meet the needs of consumers, retailers are importing high-value foods from around the world and selling it from a variety of retail store formats, with supermarkets and hypermarkets accounting for more than fifty-percent of global packaged food sales in 2003 (U. S. Department of Agriculture, Global Food Industry Structure, 2007). Globalization and safety and defense of the nation’s food system are themes very much intertwined in the literature. As Cheek (2006) pointed out, “Today, global consumers are demanding a source-verified and disease-free food supply. . . Changing consumer attitudes have resulted in demands for greater food safety on the retail market.”...

Latino/Hispanic Ethnic Group

...Latino/Hispanic Ethnic Group White and Black are races that are outlined throughout the world. People generally feel you either fit in these racial categories or you don’t. The Latino/Hispanic group is defined more by ethnicity, relatively more complex than just race. The U.S. Census Bureau outlines this ethnic group as a separate entity than White or Black people. There is even White and Black Latinos or Hispanics depending on how they choose to identify. There is a broad range of variability in this ethnic group as well as some cultural, language and religious differences as well as a few different subgroups. Identity The United States Census Bureau is the sole provider of all of the statistical data about our nations’ population and economy. Census information is gathered and reported every 10 years. Census reports first implemented that Latino/Hispanic could be identifying factors on our census report around the 1990 census data collection, which held the most comprehensive data. In previous years, Latin Americans were able to identify with by listing any of the subgroup they belonged to. In previous years, beginning in 1930, the census attempted to identify “Mexicans”, then later in 1970, where there was a nationwide category and then 1980 added the more effective category that really won over society in 1990. Most Latinos and Hispanics have no easy task in explaining their identity. Whether you are a Latino or a Hispanic is largely in part based upon where your...

The minorities that do reside here seem to blend into the community and feels little effects from racism or discrimination. My community is very small compared to many cities that surround us within a 250 mile radius. How secluded are we from the big city life? Our city only has a population of 31,894 (2010 US Census Bureau, Jan. 2012) and in the county has 39,265 (2010 US Census Bureau, Jan. 2012). I am including the Nez Perce County because it plays a big part of our community. Our community sees very little race ethnicity. Most of my community is made up of the same ethnicity as me, comprised of mostly Whites (90.1% of the population). Among the other races that inhabit the Nez Perce County are Native Americans (5.6%), Hispanic or Latinos (2.8%), Asian Americans (.7%), Blacks (.3%), and Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders (.1%) (2010 US Census Bureau, Jan. 2012). Since that report I have witnessed a growing number of Arab Americans arriving into the community. As I was looking for the population statistics, I was curious to know the number of working population there was amongst the ethnic groups. As of...

...Marketing Research and Promotional Message PSY/322 September 30, 2013 Joanna Bauer Marketing Research and Promotional Message The 2010 Census reported that teenagers make up about 14% of the total United States population (ACT for Youth Center of Excellence, 2013). This 14% represents one of, if not the most multi-culturally diverse groups of consumers and is the ideal targeted audience for most companies in the United States today. There is no doubt about the buying power of teenagers, it is for this reason that companies must be very precise about who they are targeting for their products. In 2001, teenagers spent an average of $104 a week, which totaled around $172 billion dollars that year (National Consumers League, 2013). Introduction In the economy of today, teenagers are a sizeable and easily identifiable market segment, eager to buy, able to spend, and easily reached (Schiffman, Kanuk & Wisenblit, 2010, p. 55). Value is very important to teenagers and is apparent with the sudden rise of social networking in which connections with family, and friends are being maintained longer than ever. Teenagers make...

...the Internet for different purposes, including communicating with friends, researching and monitoring online stock prices, trading stock, paying bills, banking, and shopping. Growing numbers of consumers purchase goods and services, gather product information, or just to browse online”(Demangeot & Broderick, 2007). People today are indeed bombarded with technology. Most people cannot get through the day without their laptops or smart phones, especially for today’s youth. Since today's college students were raised in a technological age. “It is no surprise that internet usage among college respondents has seen a marked increase in recent years” (Budden et al, 2007). “Most college students surveyed enjoy shopping online” (Arnaudovska et al, 2010). Online shopping gradually appears in people’s lives, especially in college students’ life. “Online shopping is the process whereby consumers buy goods or services directly from a seller in real time over the Internet. Online shopping environments are, therefore, playing an increasing role in the relationship between marketers and their consumers” (Demangeot & Broderick, 2007). Therefore, internet is not only indeed playing an important role today, but also in the future. “In the city of the future, bricks-and-mortar retailers will be just as savvy as their online counterparts. In recent years, the convenience of purchasing almost anything via the Internet has driven the decline of numerous chains. Stores don't have the data websites...

International Marketing

...August 12, 2012 1. Explain the strategy behind Asian automakers targeting Gen Y. Asian automakers have are targeting the young generational consumers referred to as the Gen Y for many different reasons. Amongst the many reasons is the sky-rocketing price of gas. The young generation is becoming more sensitive to cost than ever before. They want to spend less and get more, if possible. They have found that high priced gas guzzlers are not so popular anymore. With the price of gas being at an affordable standstill for years, it means that Asian automakers now have the opportunity to target young US consumers that are looking for small, reliable, and fuel efficient vehicles. According to a survey conducted by Consumer Reports National Research Center, 2012, it shows people are driving less and looking for more fuel efficient cars. Asian automakers understand that America is in a crunch so people are looking for more but for less. Their aim is to introduce lines of vehicles that are not only fuel friendly but are pocket friendly as well. As stated by consumer affairs “There are 64 million Gen Y buyers coming into the marketplace," stated by Jim Lentz, Toyota's group vice president and general manager. "We know when they come to market to buy a vehicle, new or used, they will spend on average about $15,000." So Asia figured that it is a great marketing idea to offer a brand new affordable vehicle with added perks for the same price as a used car? I myself feel that this thinking...

As you know grandma decide to lease out the farm properties on farm land #3.There are several issues that have to address before any cash crop can be planted on farm land organic or otherwise. First; as I mentioned in my e-mail to you about three weeks ago the same rules applies for this type of project since it is still farm property. Here in the State of Georgia as I am sure it is a regulation in the other 49 states to be considered a commercial or corporate farmer you must submit a request to your state’s Department of Agriculture. Next; you must be up-to-date with all of the local, state, and, federal land taxes to apply to all properties owned. Finally; you must count the cost; because as a land owner of any kind of property especially a landlord you are responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the property even though it is rented out to a tenant. Also; you or the tenant will have to` have some kind of Renter‘s Insurance in case of a natural disaster or a personal injury, just-in-case.
