Cloud Computin

...Cloud Computing: A Taxonomy of Platform and Infrastructure-level Offerings David Hilley College of Computing Georgia Institute of Technology April 2009 Cloud Computing: A Taxonomy of Platform and Infrastructure-level Offerings David Hilley 1 Introduction Cloud computing is a buzzword and umbrella term applied to several nascent trends in the turbulent landscape of information technology. Computing in the “cloud” alludes to ubiquitous and inexhaustible on-demand IT resources accessible through the Internet. Practically every new Internet-based service from Gmail [1] to Amazon Web Services [2] to Microsoft Online Services [3] to even Facebook [4] have been labeled “cloud” offerings, either officially or externally. Although cloud computing has garnered significant interest, factors such as unclear terminology, non-existent product “paper launches”, and opportunistic marketing have led to a significant lack of clarity surrounding discussions of cloud computing technology and products. The need for clarity is well-recognized within the industry [5] and by industry observers [6]. Perhaps more importantly, due to the relative infancy of the industry, currently-available product offerings are not standardized. Neither providers nor potential consumers really know what a “good” cloud computing product offering should look like and what classes of products are appropriate. Consequently, products are not easily comparable. The scope of various product offerings differ and overlap...

Northern Grid Power Failure

...dipped below the optimal level of 49 HZ . However officials have been unable to identify exactly where the fault has occurred. The power supply in Punjab and Haryana are likely to be restored late in evening. The supply to thermal plants from hydro station is being arranged and it will take 4 to 6 hours to start thermal units. Earlier on Monday, seven states in the northern region saw power trip off at 2.32 am due to a major breakdown in the Northern Grid. The power failure had hit rail, Metro and road-traffic operations, as well as services at hospitals and civic bodies. Meanwhile CERC in its order said today that in case the constituents do not comply with the directions of NRLDC with regard to overdrawal NRLDC shall take necessary steps to open the identified feeder(s) to the constituent States in order to reduce the over-drawl and restore the grid to the safe operating frequency band. CERC order further says that Since, the situation has not improved despite our directions, we direct the Officers-incharge of the STUs/SLDCs of the States of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir to personally appear before the Commission on August...

Crisis Management Plan

...Crisis Management Communication Plan There are unquestionably infinite configurations of crisis situations to be prepared for, real or imagined. Unsurprisingly, the surge of zombies in mainstream society has granted credibility to an idea that a zombie apocalypse might manifest. The proliferation associated with this unique theory has encouraged scores of citizens to contemplate, “How do I ready for a zombie apocalypse?” Even though zombies are hype, they effortlessly link within our imagination of disaster and emergency preparedness as seen in the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention advertising maneuver in 2011. The agency trusted it to be an excellent stimulus to get the public to pull together for an emergency. One must be prepared for terrorist/zombie attacks, natural disasters or pandemics. This paper will target the communication plan employed in a health care organization during a crisis management. Moreover, it will include how communication dynamics differ in times of disaster, three solutions to reduce stress during a crisis and three approaches to resolve potential communication challenges. Disasters are the ultimate test of emergency response capability (The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). A health care organization needs a crisis communications plan to successfully handle unexpected and unstable conditions of extreme danger. No matter what the role is, nurse, physician, emergency preparedness coordinator or facilities manager — everyone...

Communication and Crisis

...Communication and Crisis HCS/320 When there is a water contamination problems over several towns there are steps that need to be taken. First the crisis has been identified; second a spokesperson or individuals who are the only person that is authorized to speak on behalf of the organization during a crisis. Normally the CEO is the spokesperson, but not always the primary spokesperson. A spokesperson is needed to communicate with the media, communicates with the communities that are affected and those that are not, internal and external, on camera interviews, public meetings, meeting with employees, and ect. This spokesperson is under fire to answer questions, so having just one person to take on this is important. “Avoid the phrase “no comment” because people think it means the organization is guilty and trying to hide something. Present information clearly by avoiding jargon or technical terms. Lack of clarity makes people think that the organization is purposefully being confusing in order to hide something. Appear pleasant on camera by avoiding nervous habits like pacing or fidgeting. Avoid “uhms” or “uhs”, you must make strong eye contact, (T. Coombs,2007).” During this crisis establish how the public is going to be notified and how quickly they need to be notified and of how much information needs to be released. We have to access the situation to see how many people are affected and express concern about the impact of what has happened to the customers, employees...

...increased output from China which is enjoying economies of scale, the grid parity could be achieved sooner than anticipated, according to a study by KPMG. Following is the graph which indicates the falling prices and costs and consequently margins of PV modules. From 2008 to 2012 there has been a 60% drop in the prices of PV modules. If we see the production of these modules has increased significantly during the past few years. Following is a representation of the world output. Now, as per Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), the benchmark capital costs for PV Solar Plant for FY 13-14 is as follows: Particulars Capital Cost Norms for Solar PV Project (Rs Lakh/MW) % of Total Cost PV Modules 344.5 43 Land Cost 16.8 2 Civil and General Works 94.5 12 Mounting Structure 105 13 Power Conditioning Unit 60 7 Evacuation Cost 105 13 Preliminary Expenses 80 10 Total Capital Cost 805.8 100 Thus according to CERC the benchmark costs for Solar PV Power Projects is Rs 8 cr/ MW. Out of the major cost is of PV Modules which account for 43% of the capital costs. As a result, over the past 2 years there has been a tremendous jump in the grid connected PV power as shown below. Now consider the tariffs discovered in the highly competitive bidding in the recent rounds of auction under the JNNSM which are as follows: Solar PV Tariffs Dec-10 Dec-11 Highest Tariff Rs 12.75 Rs 9.44 Lowest Tariff Rs 10.95 Rs 7.49 Median Tariff Rs 12.12 Rs 8.91 These...

Additionality Assessment

...Year-wise analysis of additionality Year 2006: In the year 2006 a total of 19 wind energy projects were registered out of which 14 were small scale projects. Small scale projects: Additionality of 3 small scale projects has been studied as a sample. These projects are: 1. Generation of electricity from 6.25 MW capacity wind mills by Sun-n-Sand Hotels Pvt. Ltd at Soda Mada Rajasthan 2. 3.75 MW Small Scale Grid Connected “Demonstration Wind Farm Project” at Chalkewadi, District Satara, State Mahararashtra 3. 10.6 MW wind farm at Village Badabagh, District Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. All the 3 projects demonstrated investment barrier in the additionality. The 6.25 MW and 10.6 MW project showed that the cost of power generation through wind is higher compared to that of coal and fuel oil, whereas. The 3.75 MW project has shown how due to non payment by Maharashtra state electricity board the project participants were not able to repay the loan (50 % of the total project cost). This has also been shown as a regulatory risk by the project proponent. The projects have demonstrated technology barrier faced due to poor penetration of wind energy and uncertainty in power generation through wind. The 6.25 MW project also faced technological barrier by using higher capacity of WTGs (1250 Kw) and other barriers like investment in power evacuation, unskilled manpower and lack of experience due to new technology. The 10.6 MW project in Rajasthan faced regulatory barriers because the policies...

While coal and oil are the current sources of energy, concerns about the quantity available and environmental problems force officials in China to look elsewhere for the country’s energy. Nuclear, wind, and hydroelectric power are all options in this field, but solar energy seems to be the most promising. This paper researches the history of energy demand in China and the potential of solar energy. By providing information about competition, the relations between China and the U.S., and methods of entry, we hope to give insight to those interested in entering the Chinese Energy Market. Searvant Leadership

...Running head: SERVANT LEADERSHIP Servant Leadership Servant leaders have contributed many great and sympathetic attributes in modern society today. In order for an organization to make today in a world where the economy is in a down spiral, servant leadership is a must. A servant leader acknowledges the sacrifice of his followers, and then he assures them that there will be a better tomorrow. He also creates a sense of urgency with his followers. The servant leader is very active, versus being passive on the backburner. A servant leader refuses to be denied, because as a true servant leader he is concerned about his followers. Servant leadership is often associated with the Bible and religion. The idea of servant leadership originated from Robert Greenleaf although it can be dated back to ancient time. It is well used among various religion beliefs; Mother Theresa and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. area two of the more popular religious icons and they were both great servant leaders (Ebener, 2011). Less consideration is given to the care of others because it is because it moved from personal involvement to something that is mediated by large corporations (2011). Mother Teresa was a head strong individual whom exhibited a wealth of values that far surpassed most people in our lifetime. She was known for her honesty, respectability, and commitment. She is loyal and dedicated to the people she serves. Mother Teresa was considered a true Saint and she far...

...Alex Mooney 4th Hour Puerto Rico CERC Is Puerto Rico a territory of the United States? Yes, they are, and they should stay that way for a long time. One reason Puerto Rico should stay a territory is for financial aid. Currently, Puerto Rico receives over $2 billion in aid each year from the United States. If they became a state, they would most likely get a lot less aid then now. If Puerto Rico became its own country, they would probably get minimal aid from the United States. Another reason Puerto Rico should remain a territory is the taxes. As a territory, Puerto Rico does not have to pay any federal taxes to the government. The only taxes they pay are local taxes. If Puerto Rico became a state, the Puerto Rican citizens would be forced to pay federal taxes and would become even poorer than before! Also, if they became their own country, they would have to pay federal taxes to the now new government of Puerto Rico. The final reason Puerto Rico should remain a territory is the United States military. As a territory, Puerto Rico does not have a military, so the United States protects them with our military. There would be no additional benefit of joining the Union for military. If they broke off, though, they would have to create an army and they are way too poor and too small to do that. In conclusion, Puerto Rico should remain a territory because of the military, the tax benefits, and the amount of financial...

Non-Native Invasive Species: Hydrilla Water Plant

...Non-native Invasive Species What is an invasive species? An invasive species is an organism that has very few natural predators, competitors, parasites, or diseases. They also have high reproductive rates than any other species in an ecosystem. They also live longer as well. They are the hardest to get rid of because of their reproductive system. I’m taking these facts and finding those in the Hydrilla water plant. This plant is really high in reproduction, which makes them a non-native invasive species. The Hydrilla is one of the most invasive species ever to exist. They are found to be taking over waters that had populations of Eurasian in it. This plant also causes damage to waterways...

William Free Advertising executive of Silva Thins Cigarettes American Tobacco Company 6603 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23230, USA Dear Mr. W. Free I am Hogeon Lee, the representative of woman rights organization. We work with Civil and Equal Rights Committee (CERC) and speak for the entire women’s voice in the world. I would like to accuse the rousing problem of violating women dignity, especially the advertisement that was published a month ago, in ‘Vintage Magazine’. ‘Cigarettes are like women. The best ones are thin and rich.’ The advertisement places emphasis on both cigar box and woman by placing them in the center, the same level, which objectifies the woman as a product. Such objectification lowers the value of women, perhaps causes sexual violence. Also, the text, ‘The best ones are thin and rich’, shapes misconceptions of beauty. If you think...

Recommendations for National Solar Mission (NSM) Prayas Energy Group 5th November 2009 We welcome the NSM’s intentions to promote solar energy in India. We feel (1) that NSM has to be seen against the backdrop of overriding national goals of equity and development and (2) it should echo India’s international stand in climate negotiations – namely that the rich should pay for mitigation and technology development. Considering the large public subsidy that India is willing to provide for solar (Rs 90,000 crores over two decades, equal to 0.1% of GDP per year today) in spite of the fact that India has little ‘responsibility’ as well as ‘capability’ for GHG mitigation and the fact that some of the Annex-I countries are not even proposing to pay 0.05% of GDP towards their responsibility towards international mitigation and adaptation; it is essential that India has clear in-country objectives that are met by the NSM. We believe the Government of India should ensure that: • Needs of poor are met on priority, • Access to technology and Indian technology development should get a boost, • Least cost options for solar capacity are pursued. These principles lead to our recommendations, the details of which are enclosed in this note. The summary points are the following. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Larger push for Solar Home Lighting systems for the poor houses in remote villages Tariff-based competitive bidding...

...Deschide ochii! Ce vezi? Nu pe mine, în orice caz. Nu, vezi viitorul, vezi lumea frumoasă, strălucitoare, plină de oameni. Vezi viată, sulfu, tumult de energie și pasiune. Acum închide-i! Acum pe cine vezi? Mă vezi pe mine? Spune-mi!

The Slaughter of Innocence

...Guzy 1 Chelsea Guzy English Composition 1 Dale Dittmer 8 November, 2012 The Slaughter of Innocence Controversial, pro-choice, and pro-life. What do these have in common? Abortion. Abortion is a matter of plain, objective science. Embyros and fetuses are fully and individually human from the point of fertilization. If this were not true, and if unborn children were not genetically-distinct human beings, there would be no need to even talk about rights of personhood. Removing a fetus would be the equivalent of pulling a tooth, however, this is not the case and the debate must be a part of the political arena.  Humans should be recognized as persons under the law. Humans are considered a person, if by nature, they have the capacity to develop the ability to think rationally, express emotion, and make decisions. Since humans have personal natures, they are considered a person. The humanity of unborn children qualifies them as persons and should be guaranteed their protection under the law.  The choice should not be to keep or abort the baby, the choice should be to keep or give away the baby. Abortion clinics should be changed to adoption clinics. Abortion is a tragedy, not only for the unborn who never got the chance to experience life, but for the mother also. Millions of young and frightened mothers have been pressured to choose abortion to help men escape the responsibility and embarrassment.   Fifty-one percent of Americans consider themselves "pro-life" about the...
