In the beginning of chapter five, Siddhartha sees the world in an entirely new perspective. He notices all the scenery around him in a graceful manner and awes at the beauty of the nature. The opening of the chapter follows the same theme of self exploration and religious demeanor as the first few chapters of the novel. However, this quickly changes when Siddhartha lays eyes on the courtesan named Kamala. She is a prostitute, yet of a prestigious caste, and it is made apparent that Siddhartha has somewhat of a crush on Kamala. Siddhartha cleans himself up in the river and approaches Kamala with the desire of learning the art of love from her.
