...Topic 1: Discussion Question 1 Read Lake and von Baeyer's article, “Tips for Successful Students." Also, review the characteristics of a successful student as explained in the lecture. As you consider these, which is your strongest characteristic? Why? How will this characteristic help you to become a successful student in your program of study? I have always said that I am responsible for my own education. We only get out of school what we put into it. The instructor is there to present the information and provides a framework for understanding. It is my job as a student to fill in the spaces with my own understanding. I can clarify my understanding by asking questions, which I am poor at doing, and by doing research, which I do very well. I am not a good questioner. So, I really feel that my strongest characteristic is my responsibility and accountability. The best instructors I’ve had are the ones deemed “intimidating”. The same is true for my work environment. The best leaders were always a little scary to me. But once I got past the intimidation factor, I found that they actually had the most things to teach me. And that is when I would ask questions! Secondary characteristics that will help me be successful are my time management and note taking. I am forever writing things down. I find that if I hand write something, there is a connection between the writing of the information and my recall of it later. So if I want to remember something, I write it down. That tends...

...Richelle Machado Effective Counselor Characteristics Walden University COUN 6100 According to the text, “counselor characteristics are an important part of the therapeutic dynamic (Sheperis, D. S., & Ellis, C. M., 2010).” Counselor’s characteristics are formed by one’s personality and how that counselor uses his or her personality in their approaches to therapy. In the media Counselor Characteristics, Gail Mear, Bob Walsh and Norm Dasenbrook all explained a few counselor characteristics they believed are used during therapy. Some of those characteristics that are effective are being that helping person (through this with training a counselor gains a skill set to help the client), setting boundaries (being able to know when to set limits in counseling between you as the counselor and your client), empathic counselor (being able to understand your clients feelings and grasp where those feelings are coming from), Self-Awareness (counselors encourage clients though process of belief that they can achieve anything, have faith in the clients you work with but also be aware that not everything they tell you is the truth), lastly collaboration (by working together as a system and using your people skills your collaboration with your client will be more effective). An ineffective characteristic that I got from the media was codependency, making sure to pay attention to times when counselors become too involved in their clients therapy or lives...

...In this paper I will be discussing the four characteristics of a well-written report. As well as what makes them critical to writing a report. The four characteristics are completeness, conciseness, clarity, and accuracy. As stated in the textbook “A report may contain all the necessary information, but if it is poorly written, points may be lost in the prose” (P.189). Simply put, if it doesn’t contain all the key elements your report could otherwise become useless. The first characteristic of a well written report is its completeness. “Completeness means that the report contains all pertinent information” (P.190). Officers have a series of questions they should ask themselves before handing in a report to make sure that it is complete. Reports should contain any and all relevant information so that your report leaves no open questions whether it by a fellow officer or the court. Having all the necessary information in the report will show what actions were taken and it helps to avoid wasted time and effort of having to do it all over again. E-mail addresses have become important in report writing since it is the easiest way to deliver a statement to an officer. “An Added Benefit is that e-mail interviews can be printed out and attached to the supplementary report” (P.190). The importance of the completeness of a written report is crucial due to it needing every detail that was crucial to the investigation. The next characteristic of a well written report is its conciseness...

...Some researchers believe that the born characteristics are more important for the development of personality than the experience we may have in our live. In fact, innate traits are inevitable and may affect our life in the long term. However, in my own opinion, experience is the major influence that plays the vital role in forming our qualification. I believe this thing is true for these two main reasons. Firstly, personality can be changed through education. Children are sent to school to learn how to behave well and have a good awareness of the fairness, the love, the rights and the success. We will know what should do and what should not do to suit the life‘s condition and to keep all the relationship much longer. Secondly, the outside factors affect us in many ways, especially our friends. The old saying ‘’ A man is known by the company he keeps’’ always remind you of how much the surrounding people affect you. For instance, you play with a group of people, so you tend to imitate their hobbies, their style and so on. Moreover, you may change your appearance or even your own characteristic to look like the rest of them in order to join the group perfectly. In addition, my own experience supports my statement a lot. I used to be lazy in studying and never dreamed of good marks. My parents complained about my result all the time and forced me to study much more. I had many friends and they were all learn well at school. They set an example for me and I consciously knew...

...development because of their engagement with human conditions. The academic discipline of human services educate these professionals at the associate, bachelor’s, and graduate levels and studies how public policies and delivery systems influence service users. Working in human service professions can call for special efforts and require professionals with skills and characteristics that make them effective. Flexibility “allows human services professionals to shift their perspectives on the nature of helping, their views of the client and the client’s problems, and their preferred intervention” (Woodside & McClam, 2011, p. 172). Professionals are willing to modify, abandon, or reconsider their approaches to helping when they meet unexpected situations. Flexibility is an important characteristic as human service professionals work with people representing different cultural and ethnic groups. Empathy is “acceptance of another person” (Woodside & McClam, 2011, p. 171). This characteristic allows the human service professional to experience a feeling or see a situation from the perspective of the client. This characteristic would be easier for professionals who have had similar experiences to those of their clients. Empathy is important because it allows you to see things from the client’s...

...individuals and groups from a broad spectrum of demographic and philosophical differences. The list of these differences is endless and apart from the major differences of race and gender, it also encompasses a myriad of other characteristics such as religion, marital status, political beliefs, education, military status, lifestyle, social class, appearance and personality. These differences can be visible or hidden as demonstrated in the Myplace: The Place for Diversity multimedia. A very small percentage of our diversity differences seem to be visible until you get to know the other person. Race, ethnicity, age, attitude or gender are dimensions that are visible to the naked eye. For example, a person with darker skin is different from a person with lighter skin color. The same applies to other blatantly obvious physical attributes like gender which allows us to pick out males from females. In the multimedia presentation there is Michelle who was born in Ireland but moved to the United States when she was 3. One can obviously tell that she is Caucasian and female but you cannot tell she is Irish because she doesn’t have the accent. This goes to show that as much as we may look alike or assume that we are the same based off observable characteristics we are still different and unique in our own way. It is not always possible to...

...often be tiring and overwhelming. They will absolutely need to be a self starter and self motivating in order to set a good example for their employees. Attitude often reflects leadership. Don’t be cranky unless you want a cranky team. This is a value centered trait due to the fact that this ability comes from a person’s personal demeanor. 3. Educated: It would not make good sense for a manager to effectively lead their team without knowledge about the organization, career field, and tasks at hand. In some instances, their company may not be taken as seriously as others if they do not hold a degree of some sort. The manager is the leader. The manager has to be able to teach their employees; therefore this is a knowledge centered characteristic. 4. Understanding: An effective manger would need to be understanding in a variety of instances. These could include their employees battling an illness, struggling with a divorce, nursing a sick child, or even not fully understanding their duties within the organization. A person’s personal life will often effect their work environment, no matter how hard they try to leave their baggage at the...

...in their life. Character Trait Research Character traits can easily be observed through actions or responses to a situation or even how a person acts around you or others. It can be defined as strong, Humorous, kind, or else. For this character trait research, I chose strong/strength as a character trait. The definition of strong/strength is that the quality or state of being physically and mentally strong. Person can be strong at the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force or the person can be strong the quality that allows someone to deal with problems in a determined and effective way. Getting the strong as solid character trait requires a lot of mind control. Usually when people sees the person who has a strong characteristic or trait either physically or mentally, they want this person to be strong all the time or at least believe that they are strong no matter what happens. For example who is strong as mentally, if something urgent situation occurs this person can solve the situation and find the way through out. And people sees this and expect this person to be strong at this type of situation. So staying strong all the time requires mind control saying that I am good at this or I am strong on this so this person can stay positive and strong all the time. I believe this is one of the hardship or negative aspect of keeping the solid character trait because humans have feelings and their own thought and it is not easy to control them as you want...

...If you look at Ford as a company, it has some characteristics in common with the other organizations being discussed today, and some things that are very different. One important difference is that to a first approximation, we have one product and its main attribute has not changed over the years. The automobile is something that provides a way of moving people and goods from place to place. Characteristics that are the same at some level are complexity and scale. Ford is a very large company. It is the second largest company in the United States. The economies of scale are extremely important to this business, probably more important than to any other business in the world. The other characteristic of an automotive company, which it shares with some companies but which makes it different from others, is that the automotive business is more appropriately characterized as a systems integrator than as a full-scale producer and developer of commodities. It is more like the aircraft business than it is like the microelectronics business, for example. And that has been true throughout its history. The company is now 92 years old, and if you look back to the beginning, or almost to the beginning, what Ford has been is an extremely efficient mass manufacturer of personal transportation worldwide. It has the broadest possible customer base. The first Henry Ford had a very deliberate vision of selling vehicles to everyone, not just to the elite. The business has always been...

...A manager should have a few key characteristics to be a great leader in a workplace. That person must be honest, mature, and have a good attitude. I believe that leadership is one of the most important traits a manager can have. A manager must be a charismatic leader in the organization, and be able to help motivate the subordinates to work to their full potential. I believe that I follow these characteristics. I am a very honest person, and I like to do whatever I can to help my group succeed. When it comes to the work place I like to keep things mature and organized. There’s a time and a place to have fun and goof off, but the work place is not one. My attitude towards my fellow employees is very positive and upbeat. Whenever somebody needs anything I always like to be a helping hand, and I always have a great attitude. A happy attitude is contagious; an unhappy manager makes for unhappy employees. I would more likely be a mediator in a situation of disagreement. Helping somebody resolve a conflict is sometimes better than just making the decision for him or her. I like to feel comfortable in the workplace, and reward my employees by offering rewards; such as a pay raise, promotion, or any other positive reinforcement. Providing feedback to our employees is very important in my opinion. When somebody is doing a good job, they should be told and possibly rewarded. Feedback is often not used in the workplace but can help employees see what their strengths and weaknesses are...

...well-paid job and married a good woman. In my opinion, having the first child is the most important event marking the maturity of a people in both financial and spiritual terms. In this essay, I would like to present three explanations to clarify my point of view. People should first recognize that the typical characteristic of maturity is good financial management. Admittedly, financial pressure encountered by the people who first experience parenthood is tremendous, which impels them to perceive the value of money differently. Most married people thoroughly contemplate whether buying those goods would reduce the amount of money spent on raising a child instead of throwing their money around pursuing personal interests. Moreover, saving should also occupy an important part in financial plan, which allows people to guarantee their child's future regardless of any unexpected events. At this point, as for controlling financial problem, the people who have kid would be more highly evaluated than the people who are just able to sufficiently support for themselves. Therefore, the child existence accompanied with extra expenses attributes to build up characteristics of a grown-up person. Equally important, the advent of newborn child enhances the sense of responsibility among newly married couple. Initially, their commitment is just derived from the love, which helps them set aside their big ego and build up a mutual understanding. However, this fragile love string can not...

...Case Study: Accenture's Work-Life Balance Programs Case Study Questions 1. Diversity competency involves the knowledge, abilities, and skills to value organizational, group, and individual characteristics while embracing such attributes as prospective sources of productivity and distinctiveness. In the case of Accenture’s work-life balance initiatives, an environment of inclusion is fostered with people who hold characteristics diverse from themselves. This is achieved through the Lifeworks program, a free and private resource offering information on a broad range of topics that include health coaching, access to experts in financial and legal matters as well as ergonomic evaluations. In addition, the Future Leave initiative offers employees flexibility to manage family or personal issues during the course of their employment. Employees can save to fund their own future leaves of about one to three months for an activity they feel enriches their life, such as meeting family commitments or trekking through Alaska. Other key attributes in the case include communication, and individual commitment to work with team members owing to their contributions and talents, irrespective of their personal attributes. This is illustrated in Tserng’s case where she returns at the end of her leave and is welcomed with open arms. The simple gesture of welcoming a worker who was on leave for more than two months signifies the need for teamwork and a commitment to work with others...

...includes recognizing the characteristics of the audience, appropriate communication channels, and ensuring that the most effective message comes across. Audience Analysis Paper This paper is intended to show the importance of using communication to conduct meetings such as in a board room filled with stakeholders, managers, salespeople and customers giving information pertaining to the quarterly sales of the company. When delivering the speech there are many dynamics that come into play and the paper will discuss all things to be considered while addressing the audience (joseph, 2011) Characteristics of the audience In a global market there are many things to take into consideration while preparing for a speech. The obvious consideration would have to be demographics and all of the inner components of the area including ethnicity, race, and cultural origins. Working in a global market place may mean the meeting being conducting could quite possibly be seen half a world away so the proper acknowledgment of the characteristics of the audience is key. To properly deliver the speech to an attentive audience requires one to address the age, gender, and education, religious affiliations, economics status, sexual orientation, family background, and group membership (pearson education, 2010). While molding the speech to be given the psychographic characteristics also come into play. Psychographic characteristics are those that ask...
