Charlie Gordon, a 37-year-old man which suffers from a mental illness, goes through a series of operations which are all part of a surgery which is supposed to make him smarter. Before the surgery, Charlie Gordon works as a janitor in a factory where he gets made fun of by the people around him who he thinks are his friends. After the surgery, he is fired from his job and he realized that the people who he had though were his friends were really not and he figured that they had laughed at him and not with him; they teased him constantly.
