...Transmittal letters often accompany reports and inform readers of a report's context. Typically, the letter includes information not found in the report. For example, the letter contains information about the particular project and/or due dates. A Transmittal Letter is a business letter and should be formatted accordingly; that is, you should include the recipient's address, your address, a salutation and closing. Depending on the project, you may also need to include contact information. Always check with your instructor to determine whether or not you should attach a transmittal letter to your report. In Finance, a Letter of Transmittal is a document used by a security holder to accompany certificates surrendered in an exchange or other corporate action. A Letter of Transmittal may also be a distribution list with the recipients of a memo, report or contract. A transmittal letter accompanies a document and explains what the document is, why it should receive the reader's consideration, and what the reader should do with it. A transmittal or cover letter accompanies a larger item, usually a document. The transmittal letter provides the recipient with a specific context in which to place the larger document and simultaneously gives the sender a permanent record of having sent the material. Transmittal letters are usually brief. The first paragraph describes what is being sent and the purpose for sending it. A longer transmittal letter may summarize key elements...

Willis Earl Beal

...Buy a temporarily discounted copy of Acousmatic Sorcery Buy tickets for the Principles of a Protagonist tour ABOUT To say that 27-year-old Willis Earl Beal has lived a colourful life would be a serious understatement. The Chicago native will tell you that his life has been one of "monotony" - which it has at times - but stints in the army, an ongoing desire to be a superhero, bouts of serious illness and a stretch of sleeping rough in an unfamiliar desert town would suggest otherwise. As an outsider artist, Beal's career always existed just beyond his imagination, with a history of leaving homemade novels, artwork and CD-Rs across America to promote his work, suggesting a desperate desire to be heard. This practice of "gifting" - matched with a natural booming voice, rich with range and a talent for penning raw, beautiful melodies - led to early features in both Found and the Chicago Reader that changed his life's course. Beal's creativity caught the attention of Hot Charity / XL Recordings who released Acousmatic Sorcery in March, 2012 - an 11 song set Beal wrote and recorded on a discarded karaoke machine while living in Albuquerque, NM. Since the release of Acousmatic Sorcery, Willis Earl Beal has toured the world, performing in clubs and festivals with nothing more than his guitar and back-up tape machine to support him. Delivering soul baring performances night after night, Beal has been lauded for not only his vocal mastery but the intensity with which he performs...

Rip East Side: the Gentrification of East Austin

...East Austin is defined as the community south of Airport Boulevard, and north of the Colorado River, west of Hwy-183, and east of I-35. In my opinion, East Austin is defined as home. It is where most of my family either lives or comes from. To me East Austin was the best place on earth. In recent years, this portion of Austin has been completely transformed into something else. Where in the past mom and pop tire shops and restaurants have existed are now micro-breweries and indie art studios. Not only are businesses being affected, but so are the residents of East Austin. The property taxes of lower income Hispanic and Black families are being raised at such an astronomical rates that families are being bought out of their home for below market price and forced to leave their communities. Most families can only afford to move to South Austin; which has been known historically for a high crime rate. It is this kind of passive aggressive change to the city that is hurting the livelihood of its underprivileged citizens. It all began with the City Plan of 1928; a plan that essentially segregated individuals of color from the rest of the City of Austin. City ordinances like this one were common practices of cities in the South. This was a quick, easy, and legal way to segregate entire demographics of people to entire portions of the city.1 The actual Plan of 1928 specified that one of the primary goals of this initiative was to establish a "Negro-district" within Austin city limits...

Bag the Ban or Ban the Bag

...in the U.S. have passed. One of these policies which has been implemented in a variety of cities around the United States, including Austin, is the ban on single-use plastic and paper bags. This ban has been hotly debated, and there are many people who view it as beneficial and many others who see it as unnecessary and imposing. Either way the impacts of this policy are far-reaching in how it can affect customers, businesses, and the environment. In this paper, I will show the conflicting arguments in this ongoing debate, focusing on the bag ban implemented in Austin in early 2013. We will begin by looking at the two opposing sides to the argument. There are many groups of people who advocated for the implementation of a city ordinance banning single-use bags in Austin and who continue to support it. The Austin City Government, led by Mayor Lee Leffinwell, and the Austin Resource Recovery, formerly known as the Solid Waste Services (SWS) Department, were the main proponents who pushed the ordinance into effect. In addition, the Zero Waste Advisory Commission and the Environmental Board of Austin both performed a variety of analysis, which resulted in them viewing the bag ban as the best step forward in achieving Austin’s Zero Waste goals as part of the Austin Resource Recovery Master Plan (Gedert). The Texas Campaign for the Environment was also one of the first groups to push the Austin government to consider banning single-use bags and to...

...the organizational goal of offering first-class limousine service to the Austin Texas area, there must be a consensus among leadership for an open-minded approach to select employees who emulate the diversity and culture of Austin. According to the 2010 census, the city of Austin has now crossed the threshold of becoming a Majority-Minority city. In essence there is not a specific ethnic or demographic majority and for good measure, the median age is 32 (AustinTexas.gov 2014). Knowing these factors will allow Landslide Limousine to select employees who are the face of the current and future city. There is an adage, which states you get what you pay for (Vonnegut 1967) and it is imperative for senior management to either invest in an outside firm or stay with in-house resources when it comes to the hiring of personnel for this location. Austin is a city which, has potential for growth yet many of the affluent are moving further west and east of the city and operating in the city has risks and benefits. How will Landslide Limousine attract customers and how will the employees fair in a market that is still in the process of reaching the top in Texas? Since the company expected revenue for the first year is -$50,000, utilizing in-house resources would be the first plan of action. Paper

...INTRODUCTION: A BAGLESS AUSTIN The future is upon us. Store-goers will soon need to re-evaluate their shopping experience, as Austin will be going bagless beginning March 1, 2013. All consumers use plastic or paper bags on a regular basis, whether while retail shopping or grocery shopping. That’s all about to change, however; the passage of this new law means that those paper and plastic bags are on the way out. Single-use bag use will be diminished, re-usable bags are headed to the forefront, and shoppers will be getting used to a new experience when the head to their local grocery early next year. BACKGROUND According to a city report released this year, “Austinities use 263 million plastic bags a year – that’s more than 330 bags a year for every resident. It costs the city – meaning it costs us the taxpayers – about $850,000 a year to dispose of plastic bags.”(Lisheron, 2012) Consumers in Austin have already started to get a taste of what is to come. Companies, such as Walgreens, have implemented a trial test on stores to gauge the impact of the law being passed. Candace White, an avid shopper at the Slaughter and South Congress Walgreens, was quite confused when the cashier thanked her for coming but did not place her products in a plastic bag. The cashier informed her about Austin going bagless and she was given a free recycled bag. Like most Austinities, she was not informed of the new law which is soon to be enforced. This paper will reinforce the reasons why going...

Race and Your Community

...Race and Your Community ETH/125 Race and Your Community While living in Austin, TX, I have seen the influences of each and every race as it revolves around my community. I believe the relations in my community and city have been racialized, positively and negatively. However, I do not believe these interactions have directly affected affairs in my direct neighborhood, schools, environment, clubs, and service/volunteer groups which I participate in. Even despite the fact the leader of the community’s outlook of the community and individual race is negative, the relations in my community show positive construction influences on race and the our community. “This marks the third consecutive year for Austin to appear among the three most popular places in the U.S. for Hispanics to live and work”. Also if members of my community treat individuals who are of my culture any differently than the rest of the community. Stephen F Austin

...Stephen F. Austin Often when individuals reflect on the history of Texas, many great names with acts of heroism come to mind. However, when asked to explain the interpretation, and accomplishments these heroes achieved, we draw a blank. One hero in particular is Stephen F. Austin. This individual has acquired the title as "Father of Texas" and yet many people don't understand the impact and importance this man was, and still is, on the state of Texas. Stephen F. Austin was born on November 3, 1793. His father, Moses Austin and mother, Mary Brown, set high expectations for him since birth. Through the years, Austin traveled from place to place due to his Fathers work and acquired knowledge of his father's business, a mining operation. At the age of ten, Austin was driven to school and ultimately graduated from college. He had spent some time working for his father and spending some time in the military. Stephen was discharged from the military as a senior level sergeant upon completion of his term. During this time in Stephens life, his father, Moses, departed to San Antonio to petition for a land grant from the Spanish territory. The land grant gave authorization for 300 families with a total of 200,000 acres to be separated amongst themselves. Before completion of the land grant, Moses Austin passed away. This left Stephen to follow his father's dreams and continue to pursue the colonization of a territory from the Spanish. Austin had a difficult time getting the land...

Information that needs to be communicated effectively and efficiently has done by way of web, with the City of Cleveland website, which provides our stakeholders with an abundance of information. The City of Cleveland also use social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn as their communication channel to reach our stakeholders to provide information as well” ( Johnson, 2013). “Prior to social media being as popular as it is today, communication was provided by regular U.S. mail, email blast and through community newsletters, which was very costly to the City’s budget. Now with communicating through electronic means, information is provided more effectively and by a faster means. Electronic communication is also forwarded to other stakeholders by sending a link in an email that is directly transmitted to other stakeholders to inform them of curtain information as well” (Johnson, 2013). I find this to be credible, because I receive newsletters regarding things like; trash pick-up, new recycling trash cans and what’s going on in the Cleveland area. I also, receive newsletters form the Mayor, called the Mayor’s action line. Being in the community, when there is a crisis I like to know what is going on in my city. Strengths of the interview ...
