...The topic as a whole for Criminal Justice is amazing. So many behind the scenes with it. There is so much to take in and learn. The first thing that I want to discuss about that I learn was the Bill of Rights. I’ve heard people claim their rights but I always wonder to myself if they are really the rights that we have. I know though that “the first 10 amendments to the Constitution have become known as the Bill of Rights” (Hendrix, ch.4 page 89) but I now have a better understanding of individual rights. Now for law enforcement, the courts, and the correctional system, I have learned is that the use of discretion and making sure that the guidelines of the Bill of Rights are kept are the most important to the systems. My honest opinion of these three systems were that they did not work properly. I was under the impression that law enforcement was brutally awful, the courts were where people fell through cracks and corrections were loaded with unfair correctional officers. These ideas were put into my mind due to the media blowing stories out of proportion and TV shows/movies that portrayed bad cops, lawyers and correctional officers. So my perception before this class was based on truth because I knew no better but again that was until this class. My perceptions have changed where enforcement, the courts and the corrections systems are the law and understanding them at a different level/perspective. Before this class I was pretty set in stone with things being black or white....

...Reflection Paper #1 – Natural Laws Florence Boswell CJUS 200 – D16 When considering the idea of natural laws being the basis for what is moral and just, one must know the actual definition of these laws. The natural laws are usually deemed to be what is also known as the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments were given to Moses directly by God in Exodus 20 and were the laws the chosen people of Israel were required to live by. These laws were not to be changed by the people, for they were created to be perfect laws (Psalm 19:7). Another important quote from the Old Testament about the natural laws is found in Deuteronomy 26. In this chapter, God promises to make the Israelite nation great above all nations if they follow his perfect law. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus added many new commandments (laws) to this list. Love your neighbor as yourself, and love the Lord your God with all your heart, are just to name a few of these. In American history, these natural laws played a tremendous role in the writing of the Constitution and the creation of the foundational laws America was built on. Men such as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson found it extremely important to make the natural laws the basis for the American legal system. It is significant to note that our forefathers made it their priority to follow the path God has set for them, and they felt the best way to do that was to follow the laws God has already given them in the Bible. ...

...James E Thomas CJUS 200 Reflection Paper 12/0/2014 Liberty University Law Enforcement The reflection that I have of law enforcement in recent days has been somewhat flawed by the way law enforcement has been portrayed in the media, and in news articles. The understanding of the police system in today’s society should have improved from what it was century ago, the agenda should be enforcing the law and keeping the peace amongst the people that they serve. I’ve never had an encounter with any police, but I’ve had opportunity to know how they treat others and how they target and even profile certain ethnicities. Many times I've seen law enforcement turn the their head when crime is being committed depending on ethnicity. Today we have to many police officers utilize force to get a handle on situations and in past days they have taken their forcefulness too far. In maintaining peace the police have rules that they must follow that will not go against citizen’s rights. The system has now more opportunity, and programs. The system is now structure in a way they can best help those that are found to be in their grip. In ( Hendrix, N., & Inciardi, J. (2013). chapter 11 and 12 we see how law enforcement has evolve from the way they viewed crimes and criminals were being house and discipline. The Courts The courts system that hear the majority of criminal and civil cases, is structure much like that of the federal court system. State trial courts...
