Failure is not something I take lightly. I am a very competitive person, so when I lose it hurts. Most recently I failed at a scholarship. I applied for the Coca-Cola scholarship and I did not receive it. This was the first scholarship that I ever applied for and I was confident that I was going to get it. In fact, too confident; so, when I received an email on the morning of November 15th that said I was not chosen, I was crushed.

College is expensive. My family is a strong education advocate and insist that I attend college. However they do not have the means to pay for my education, so I have to get an ample amount of scholarships. I have high expectations to live up to, so when I did not receive that first scholarship my entire search

Coca-Cola Comany Ethical Crisis

...The Coca-Cola Company Struggles with Ethical Crisis Lisa San MGMT 366 6/30/13 The Coca-Cola Company is one of the most well known companies in the U.S. and quite possible the world since its origination in the late 1800’s. Coca-Cola’s rapid expansion and innovation have provided ample evidence that the company is here to stay. However, after the death of the companies CEO, Robert Goizueta, the company has faced multiple ethical dilemmas. These problems have had a direct negative impact on Coca-Cola’s financial expansion, corporate culture, business relations, as well as their shareholder. Through thorough examination of past ethical dilemmas, grievance resolution, and utilizing third party consulting, Coca-Cola is on route to regain trust from consumer and business partners. Coca-Cola began to struggle in 1997 shortly after CEO Robert Goizueta passed away and Doug Ivester was appointed CEO after years of training from his mentor, Goizueta. Doug Ivester was a strong leader for the company in terms of financial flow; however, Ivester was not equipped to handle many of the ethical crises that arose. Ivester left the company in 2000 leaving Dough Daft CEO and leaving Daft with a company that was somewhat tarnished after having a relatively perfect record for 100 years. Daft reputation while as CEO was unsound and caused the company to face allegations of racial discrimination with distributors. Daft left Coca-Cola in 2004 and left the CEO position to Neville Isdell. ...

Coca Cola Ethics

...The Coca – Cola Company struggles with Ethical Crises Coca-cola has the most valuable brand name in the world and, one of the most visible companies worldwide, has a tremendous opportunity to excel in all dimensions of business performance. However, over the last ten years, the firm has struggled to reach its financial objectives and has been associated with a number of ethical crises. Warren Buffet served as a member of the board of directors and was a strong supporter and investor of Coca-Cola but resigned from the board in 2006 after several years of frustration with Coca-Cola’s failure to overcome many challenges. Many issues were facing Doug Ivester when he took over the reins at Coca-Cola in 1997. Ivester was heralded for his ability to handle the financial flows and details of the soft drink giant. Former CEO Robert Goizueta had carefully groomed Ivester for the top position that he assumed in October 1997 after Goizueta’s untimely death. However, Ivester seemed to lack leadership in handling a series of ethical crises, causing some to doubt the “Big Red’s” reputation and its prospects for the future. For a company with a rich history of marketing prowess and financial performance, Ivester’s departure in 1999 represented a high-profile glitch on a relatively clean record in one hundred years of business. In 2000 Doug Daft, the company’s former president and chief operating officer, replaced Ivester as the new CEO. Daft’s tenure was rocky, and the company was allegedly...

...CASE: IB-84 DATE: 06/27/08 PEPSI COLA PAKISTAN: FRANCHISING & PRODUCT LINE MANAGEMENT 1 In July 1991, Irfan Mustafa faced several dilemmas. As West Asia area vice president and chief executive officer of Pepsi Cola Pakistan Incorporated (PCI), Mustafa was charged with developing a strategy to grow share and profitability across PCI sales but focusing particularly on 7-Up. Pepsi Cola International had shifted focus to its global brands and, since acquiring 7Up International in 1986, had withdrawn all marketing and technical support for Pepsi’s local Pakistani brand, Teem. As a country manager, however, Mustafa was evaluated on profitability, and Teem was a profitable brand. Mustafa knew that he would need to make important decisions about Teem in developing a brand strategy and marketing plan. Considering Teem’s success in Pakistan, Mustafa wondered how he should position the soft drink and whether to continue investing in it despite the loss of international support. With PepsiCo’s acquisition of 7-Up International, arranging for 7-Up and PCI bottlers in Pakistan to merge also became a priority for Mustafa. The ability to coordinate strategies across all bottlers producing PCI brands would be essential. By August 1990, PCI had been able to merge 7-Up and PCI bottlers in three regions. As contracts expired over the next year or two, Mustafa would need to convince the remaining 7-Up bottlers to sell their plants to PCI bottlers as well. With the mergers complete, Mustafa’s...

Portfolio Managemenet Plan

...Program Management Plan 9 Conflict Resolution Plan 11 Change Management Plan (CMP) 13 Resource Utilization Plan 16 References 18 Appendix A 19 Emory University Background Emory University was founded by an original charter that started the school in Oxford, GA, Newton County on December 10, 1836. It was hand-written on two pieces of notebook paper, front and back. By 1914, the Methodist Church was looking to create a university in the South, and Emory College was looking to expand. Asa Candler, founder of The Coca-Cola Company, wrote the "million-dollar letter" to offer seed money, and he sweetened the deal by donating land in Atlanta. Emory University received a DeKalb County charter to build at its present location in 1915. The soft drink company president's brother was Emory alumnus and former president, Methodist Bishop Warren Candler, who returned to serve as its first chancellor on the new campus. The Atlanta-based Coca-Cola Company has given rise to family fortunes for the Candlers, the Woodruffs, the Goizuetas and others who have been extraordinarily generous to Emory. The philanthropy of these and other donors has enabled Emory's growth and empowered its ambition to become one of the nation's leading universities. It's unofficially considered poor school spirit to drink other soda brands on campus. In a city known for growth and change, Emory carefully cultivates a creative blend of old and new on campus. And all students, professors and staff members...

...When an icon stumbles: the Ribena issue mismanaged Tony Jaques RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia Abstract Purpose – When two 14-year-old New Zealand schoolgirls challenged the advertising claims of Ribena blackcurrant drink – owned by global giant GlaxoSmithKline – they triggered a sequence of events which led to prosecution, public opprobrium and international damage to an iconic brand. The purpose of this paper is to explore the case and identify lessons for future management practice. Design/methodology/approach – Some of the fundamental principles of issue management, post-crisis discourse and corporate apologia are to recognize the problem early, to promptly institute a strategic response plan and corrective action and, if necessary, to apologise genuinely and without delay. The paper assesses the case against the theoretical basis of each of these principles and comparable cases. A senior executive of the company concerned was interviewed about some management aspects. Findings – Despite early indications of a problem which had potential impact around the world, a major global corporation responded inadequately to a local situation and, as a result, suffered prolonged embarrassment at the hands of two teenagers and unnecessarily severe damage to its brand and international reputation. Originality/value – By in-depth...

Marketing in China

...Marketing in China Before the reforms, under the command economy, Chinese companies took order from the state in production and push the products through state-controlled distribution systems. They never had to advertise, to do consumer research, and to think about marketing strategies. For years, even after the opening and reforms, many Chinese still consider marketing western concept of a dubious practice, something that may be not valid or applicable in China. Marketing proves to be one of the most challenging parts of China operations, perhaps more so than other areas such as accounting, finance, or research & development. For several reasons, First, infrastructure in marketing is underdeveloped, including transportation systems, media development, labyrinth of multi-tier distribution channels, and the severe shortage of qualified marketing personnel. Firms attracted to the longterm potential of this vast country must remember to pay sufficient attention to the basics of producing, distribution and marketing a successful product (Country Commercial Guide 1998), Marketing Strategies In the early 1980s when MNCs first came to China, many thought of China as a huge market with a homogeneous culture and felt standardized global marketing would be effective in capturing the opportunities and improving efficiency. These feelings were confirmed by the desire of Chinese to acquire western technologies and their fascination with products from the West. After living in an economy of...
