...Senior Speech Assalamualaikum everyone, This was my second year attending city of knowledge. It was a very different experience for me because I was in public school my entire life. I risked a lot to attend this school, my class rank in my previous school, my friends, amongst other things. But it was all worth it. And it's a huge blessing to have friends with the same faith. At times I was sick of the school, but the students at the school made school worth coming to. From elementary to high school, the smiles and laughter I've shared with the students made everything worth it. Maysum, abidi, Othman, Abidi, hamid, monte, Addo, hani, and all of the others. I'd say more names but that would take forever and be annoying so I'll avoid it. I'd also like to thank all of my teachers for dealing with my nonchalant attitude and for trying their best to teach me. I appreciate almost everyone that I've met this year because of city of knowledge, thank you all for everything. I want to finish my speech by thanking the most important people in my life, my parents and family. Thank you so much for supporting me and helping me through everything I've faced these past 18 years of my life. Thank you for all the sacrifices you've made for me. I will never be able to repay you guys or thank you guys enough no matter what I do. I hope that one day I can do the same for my future family. Thanks class of 2012, and thank you all for listening. Have a good...

...motivation all through out school to do your homework, study and get good grades so you are able to get in to any college you want. I remember my first college tour it was to University of South Carolina instantly I fell in love. Once I experienced the campus for the first time I knew it was a place I could call home. Getting my acceptance letter was one of the best days of my life before I knew it summer was over and it was move in day. Little did I know there were a lot of things I did not know about being a college student that I am gradually starting to figure out. There are a lot of changes that come with going to college and the way in which you deal with them all depends on you as a person. One of the hardest problems people tend to face coming to college is going to a new place where you really don’t know that many people and there are a ton of new faces. Through out my life I’ve always had to move a lot with my dad being in the military, I hated it at the time but now I am grateful for it because it made me who I am today. Always having to make new friends made me outgoing and not afraid to walk up to someone new and start talking to them. It made me not afraid to try new things and made me learn how to adapt to new places and new schools. Coming to college is such an exciting experience because it’s a place for you to make all new friends and meet all different types of people from all over. One of the things I really wanted to do coming to college was join a sorority...

...This enthusiasm stayed with me throughout elementary school, but slowly, without my noticing, it began to fade away, only to be reignited by the handful of teachers throughout my middle school and high school education that challenged me to think beyond how to pass a test. In I Just Wanna Be Average , Mike Rose writes “Students will float to the mark you set”. In my experience this quote couldn't be more true. All of my teachers have expected me to pass a test, but those who raised the “mark” and challenged me to think critically, ask questions, and discover my own ideas have motivated me to improve the person I am and to pursue the accumulation of knowledge. Awkward phases and embarrassing decisions is what the majority of people see when they look back on their middle school years. I, on the other hand look back at middle school with fondness, primarily due to my...

..."And you begin to accept your defeat with your head up and you eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child"(Shoffstall, After A While). Araby written by James Joyce illustrates the coming of age of a young teen boy who learns that falling in love isn't all that wonderful. During the adolescence age, teens believe they know everything, when in reality they are just beginning to learn and adapt to hard situations in this world. Growing up seems like an enjoyable moment in life but there are responsibilities that come with. Through difficult times, growth becomes valuable to the character, leading to a coming of age increasing the understanding of the being. The undeveloped boy, begins to set priorities...

...partake in. My friends and I felt the same way when we were about to enter high school. I was nervous for the fact that I would lose my friends; we had been friends for what seemed like an eternity, and I could not imagine my life without them. My friends would continuously tell me that there wasn’t a force on this earth that could tear us apart, but the fear still burrowed in the back of my mind. I heard an abundance of different answers when asking my peers if they had lost their own friends in high school. The majority of responses concerning what would happen to my friend group, were split into two basic groups. Half of my peers...

...9th of December, Taunton School hosted the 2013 Somerset Talent Show. From the outside you could tell this was a serious event. Security guards lined up to show spectators’ good parking places. CCTV cameras were covering the whole area. There were about 6 different ticket zones, to make sure that everyone that got in would be authorized to. Seeing made you think that this was definitely something worth watching. As the event started, I have to say the crowd looked a little dead, but this was just the beginning. Renounced artists, Adam Levine, Katy Perry, and Usher blew everyone’s mind. Since Taunton was quite a small town, I had not expected seeing any of these celebrities anywhere near .When the judges came in, screams started coming from every corner of the room. This was the signal that an awesome event was about to take place. Everyone took their seats, and got ready for the first act, which ended up being an astounding performance from a rock band. Act after act the crowd seemed to be getting more and more warmed up. Overhearing some people talking, the air conditioner satisfied them very much. According to them, in regular inside concerts it is very hard to breathe, today was different for them. The word fun could not enough to explain the true feeling you felt over there. No complaints seemed to be coming from the local neighbors about the noise level; this clearly was organized quite well. This was going quite well for everyone. Everything was covered at this event...

...ADELYN D. CABUEÑAS ASCT/AS101A PROFETH1 “TAKING CARE OF AN EGG” “Effort is the best way of showing how much you love, care, and value someone even without commitment”. For the past few weeks taking care of this “special thing” has been one of my priorities. Maybe it’s not the best among the rest, but I know that I give my 100% effort in taking care of my EGG. During the day when our Prof. told us that we have to bring an egg for the next meeting, the first thing that popped in my mind is that we are going to cook some egg recipe. I know it sounds funny to think that cooking is not even our subject curriculum. The following day she ask us if we bought the eggs that she told us to, and when we told her yes she then signed each egg. After that, Mrs. Danila announced that we’re going to take care of the egg for the whole midterm thus 50% of our grade depends on how good we handle those egg. Going home with the egg in my bag makes me feel so anxious, I was like a paranoid girl in love whose afraid, to break and lost her most precious guy. Well I guess the reason why I’m afraid to break my egg is that I don’t want to fail, coz’ failing for me is like losing a big chance. That day, when I got home the first thing I did was look for something cute where I can place my egg that I can consider safe and comfy. I ended up buying a cute dark blue box at the National Bookstore, but I find its color a bit boring so I decided to buy a violet colored paper to...

...In what grade did you have the worst teacher you ever had in school? What made the experience so horrible? What did you learn about what NOT to do as a teacher? The worst teacher that I had was in the 7th grade and in the 11th grade. I was unfortunate enough to have the same teacher two times throughout my “junior high- high school career). Coming from a very tiny little town my junior high and high school were all in one building, grades 7-12. This teacher was bias towards females. He praised the males for everything and anything and let them do whatever it is that they wished in class. This teacher was the track coach and a wrestling coach. He let the athletes skip class and waived their homework if they happened to have a big meet or tournament. This teacher taught a subject that I was just not interested in, and he did nothing to make it worth my while. I would put 100 % effort into my assignments and tests to realize that he never really read anything or checked for accuracy. Your grade was determined whether or not you did your work and if you were an athlete. Lucky for me, I ran track and played softball. Therefore, he left me alone when it came to my assignments and exams. The class was a teach yourself, read the 25 year old book and pray that you answered the questions correctly on the test. After graduating from high school years ago, I got to be the substitute teacher for this teacher. While I sat at his desk and gave the students that same exam that I had...

...Along with being early to my classes I’m also a very organized person especially when it comes to my study desk it needs to be spotless and everything has to be labeled so I can work on it. I believe being organize and coming up with new ideas of being organized is an important skill to learn because no one that knows you is going to tell you what organizing skills are going to work for you in order to succeed in college. Before you even get to college you have to have a good mindset that college is not easy but it is totally worth it. Long-term goals and endurance is key to getting through college, like I mentioned before no one in your family has gone through college so they have no idea how it is like, you personally have to get it in your head that you’re going to have to work and study hard even if that means giving up all of your social time you had before. I believe I have managed that well also. I have always been afraid of failure, from being in elementary school and being punished for bad grades up until high school where my parents didn’t check my grade anymore but I would still feel very disappointed with myself if I didn’t receive a perfect...

...2\8\2015 Self-esteem strategies Mon. & Wed. 9:00-10:30 1) Situations where I feel uncomfortable are when I’m unfamiliar with something, be it a person or a place. The fear of being unsuccessful or rejected in a situation plays a big part in my self-esteem and self-confidence. Some examples are: Coming back to school after 40 years Starting a new job Meeting new people, male or female 2) In a new situation I can feel inferior or undeserving. I can feel a fear of being rejected or put down. I can feel jealous or envious of the others who might be more familiar or comfortable with the situation. 3) I try and tell myself that everything is going to be ok, you’ll be fine, don’t worry. I strive for better but have learned to accept rejection or defeat in new situations. I try to learn from my mistakes and make corrections or I just stuff it down and go on. 4) If I have low self-esteem I can’t be a very productive in a work environment or giving personal relationship. ...Why Wrestling is Tough Did you know that wrestling is one of the toughest/best high school sport for a kid? Wrestling is just good for you all around. It will help you in so many ways. It also helps kids stay out of trouble. Therefore, wrestling is the toughest/best sport for a high school kid, because it builds character, it makes you mentally tougher, and it makes everything else in life just that much easier. The first reason you should wrestle is because it builds character. Same goes for High school wrestlers, but college wrestlers have more character because they have wrestled longer. Dan Gable once said, “More enduringly than any other sport wrestling teaches self-control and pride. Some have wrestled without great skill; none have wrestled without pride.” Therefore, this infers that you have to have pride/character to be a good wrestler, you don’t need skill, the mindset will win the match....
