First, some people successfully sneak across the border but do not mean they will successful once they get to America. “So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans” by Baca gives a mental picture of where a lot of immigrants are coming from, and gives an understanding as to why they would choose to risk their lives coming to America. “The rifles I hear sound in the night are white farmers shooting blacks and browns whose ribs I see jutting out and starving children” reflects the bitterness he has towards Americans for the violence that occurs with border patrol. Also he gives the image of money that represents a bad economy and it means that name people who live in poverty are drowning or struggling, to stay alive before they are crushed by the pressures of the economy: ‘Below that cool green sea money, millions and millions of people fight to live”.However,”The children are dead already. We are killing them, that is what Americans should be saying: on TV, in the streets, in offices, should be saying, “we aren’t giving the children a chance to live”. In other words, the American society spends too much time critizing Mexicans for stealing jobs but they have bigger problems. One of their problems is their inability to take responsibility for their own mistakes and bad judgment. Furthermore, most people that are jumping border do so because they have a lower standard of living than people in America.
Second, people become leaders in many ways and have demonstrated enough skill and knowledge so they are able to emerge into leadership role. “American Dream” by Arnold Schwarzenegger gives the reality of life, a person who is determined to be a winner, never loses sight of his goal until he achieves it.This is the philosophy of a winner as he calls it; “Wining is a very important, there is one that achieves what he wanted to achieve and there are hundreds of thousands that failed. It singles you out: The Winner” ,it gives the message people can always achieve dreams or wishes if they try with all their efforts step by step without being influenced by their surroundings. Moreover, “Three, four months before a competition, I could not interfered by other people problems. This is sometimes I called selfish’.Here the narrator shares advice that people should follow if they wish to achieve a goal in life; they have to block negativity that surrounds them n order to overcome all obstacles. Additionally, “I am stronger believe in Western philosophy, the philosophy of success, of progress, of getting rich. The Eastern philosophy is passive, which I believe in maybe three percent of the times, and the nine seven percent is Western, conquering and going on. It’s a beautiful philosophy and America should keep it up”. The quote sets the example to follow or try the Western philosophy and see how people could become successful in anything they want in life.Schwarnegger’s past and present leadership roles will predict some possibilities he may be capable in any future positions.
In conclusion, these narrators explain how people’s thoughts could be negative but there are many ways to block negativity, to avoid interruptions in goals. Baca gives the reality of how Mexican immigrants will take labor intensive jobs and work for pennies, giving an understanding why immigrants risk their lives to feed their families while White Americans would rather be on welfare. In contrast, Shwarneggers has had multiple successful careers that gave him a well-rounded background and enabled people from multiple cultural, educational, and occupational backgrounds to look to him as a leader in many aspects. The optimistic tone Schwarzenegger’s interview is in stark contrast to Baca’s poem, underlining society’s preference for immigrants of European versus Latin-American descent.
