This two-volume work by Budge is extensive and goes into detail about many of the deities and lesser-known beings in ancient Egyptian religion. Thus far in my research, this is the only source that has its own explicit section on Thoth. Here, he uses the Egyptian names more commonly than the Greek names when referring to beings, as well as providing how their names appear in hieroglyphs. In detail, Budge explains the many things Thoth is a patron of and what early primary sources have explicitly stated he did. Budge also discusses the Ogdoad and Thoth’s role as its leader, Thoth’s relationship to the goddess Ma’at, his forms, important symbols he carries, how his name breaks down in the hieroglyphic script, and his relation to the different
