Comparing Capra's A Wonderful Life And A Christmas List

After watching two movies that were made seventy years apart I am going to make a cultural comparison of the two films. Things that I will be covering are the technologies used, symbols, language, as well as values and norms. The two movies that I will compare are Frank Capra’s 1946 movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “A Christmas List” from 2016.
“It’s A Wonderful Life” stars Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, who is the nicest guy in the small town of Bedford Falls. George longs for travel and adventure and spends much of his life with things not going the way he plans. The film opens with George at his lowest point as he is facing scandal and prison, which has him contemplating suicide. Nothing has seemed to work out for George since he gave up his dream of traveling the world to…show more content… His little brother gets to go to college instead of him, and his childhood friend becomes wealthy while George is stuck in a small town struggling to make ends meet living a simple life. The mean and greed Mr. Potter is about to send George to jail for bank fraud and George thinks that his family would be better off without him. At this point, Clarence, a guardian angel second class, steps in and helps George to see how his life has impacted others by granting his wish that he had never been born. George goes through town and sees the impact he had since he was not born. He discovers that his brother died and so did a lot of men that Harry would have saved in the war. He also finds that the town was renamed Potterville and that it is not a nice place to live since Mr. Potter has been able to gouge renters and keep people from prospering by controlling the banks and businesses in the town.
