Neal is the newly appointed assistant principal and so it is now his job to distribute punishments. He tries to get on his level. In doing so Phillip begins to open up and he reveals that his father is abusive and negligent. He tells Neal that whenever his father gets extremely drunk and abusive, he takes his brother and they go and hide out .Neal then reflects back on when he was a child and was also the victim of abuse. His safe haven however was his bunk bed. He does not disclose any of the information to Phillip he just tells him that he is not suspended but he doesn't want to see him back in his office again for any misconduct. Following this discussion Neal decides to make a visit to Phillip's home. He initially tells the father he is there so he can fill out some forms regarding the school lunch program. ...How can a short, chubby, shy black girl lead an entire team at a JROTC Drill Competition? Seven months later, and I still don’t have the answer to that question. But maybe I’ll figure it out as I type this essay. It was still winter, so the air was cold and crisp as my vice drill team commander and I jumped out of my mother’s Exhibition. This is it. Months of intensive drilling, making them repeat the entire regulation if they weren’t aligned, begging Chief to not cancel the competition, that we were ready, has led up to this day. Stonewall High School JROTC Drill competition. As we finally settled down the gym, they started with opening remarks. This part is extremely boring, so I’ll skip to the scariest part of that morning. As I was fussing at my cadets to quiet down and be professional, a booming voice was saying “we need a cadet from Laurel High School.” Being in charge of the the team, I assumed they were telling us if there were any changes. Once I marched up to the podium, they commanded me to state the Pledge of Allegiance. Immediately I almost had a panic attack. Even though I’ve been reciting it for 16 years, in that moment it disappeared from my mind. I slowly walked up to the podium that...

...Washington High School had just finished its annual minicon competition with Irvington High School. I went home proud, of all the first year DECA members and their performances in the competition. 7 of our first year members had placed in top 3. Hearing the names of students being called up and knowing I spent the last few months helping them reach this level was a remarkable feeling. Seeing their faces light up when being called on stage made my face light up as well. All the work put behind planning workshops and trying to make it more interesting for the members finally paid off. That night I received a text from one the freshman students that won 3rd place in PMK saying, “Thanks for all your help, I wouldn’t have placed if it wasn’t for...

...Versus: Competition is a Child’s Best Competitor Life is not fair. One of the most overused phrases still to this day. That phrase is overused for a reason. Life really is not fair. During early adolescence we are taught to share your things, be fair, and that everyone is equal. How nice this American society would be if those virtues of being equal were true, but sadly it is not. As someone’s cognitive abilities develop and they start to assess their abilities, they automatically compare them to others, sometimes not even on purpose. As we grow up we learn that this society is a “dog-eat-dog” world, and if people do not possess the necessary skills and characteristics that one needs to get ahead or be on top, other people who are equipped with those essential skills will not even think twice about surpassing those who are lacking. By the time some people realize that America is dog-eat-dog society, they haven’t been prepared to handle competition correctly. The mere thought of a little competition scares the hell out of most people. That first loss that is handed to them during adolescence where their winning classmate throws up the “L” shape on their forehead and yells out “loser!” is almost unbearable. They completely bomb that group interview and are outshined by others in the same room where they have to openly compete for a spot in a company. Almost your entire life you have to compete either with yourself or others. Competition is very beneficial for adolescents and...

...copies of it . Also they may be room for frund . there is also space taken up during the competition to store the entry forms and DVD’s /MPG’s of the contestants , as well as the results . 1. Key Areas Please tell us more about the competition ? The annual Waltons Music for Schools Competition is a national competition and celebration of music in Irish schools. The competition awards a total of €10,000 worth of vouchers for musical instruments, accessories, books, music technology or PA equipment from Waltons Music, to be divided among six winning primary and post-primary schools, including two first prizes of €3,000 vouchers, and music groups from twelve finalist schools have the opportunity to perform in the National Concert Hall! And how did this come about ? The value of music and music education is undisputed. Numerous international studies* have shown that music instruction and active music making supplies intellectual, emotional and physical components critical to young people’s development. Yet despite the acknowledged results of these studies and the recent Department of Education and Skills music curriculum guidelines for primary schools, Ireland still has a school system where many young people have little exposure to music making of any kind. The Waltons Music for Schools Competition thus offers a unique opportunity for primary and post-primary schools to kick-start or develop their own music programmes. (*For more information and specific studies...

...They are not aware of the competitions we go to and really how competitive the cheer world is. Most people only see cheerleaders at games, cheering on their team. And honestly, you do not see much of the cheerleaders. You just see them do some cheers, jumps and maybe stunts. After all they did go to watch the game and not the cheerleaders. Some people also do not believe that it is a sport because of how it used to be. There was a time where cheerleading really was only cheering. They simply just cheered on their team by shouting. Then they started getting risky and daring and trying all these stunts. They were doing crazy, mind blowing things. People caught onto what they were doing and decided to put some rules into place for safety concerns. From that moment to now cheerleading has formed into the amazing “sport” I personally love. Another reason people may not consider cheerleading a sport is because some schools do not go to competitions, competitions are voluntary and competitive at the level decides they want to be at. It is okay for a school cheer team to just cheer for their school, and that is all their fans will see them do. That is really simple and depending on what they do it may be questionable if that type of cheering is a sport or not. One last reason why people may not consider it...

...Oblong Cheerleaders…More Than Just Standing on the Sidelines By: Brooke Goodwin The Oblong High School cheerleaders have been competing for eight years in the small varsity division. We compete at about four competitions a year, depending on how well we are doing that year; we could go to more competitions. The competitions are usually about two to two and a half hours away. Oblong cheerleaders have qualified for the IHSA state competition during the last four years and for the ICCA championship two years in a row. To qualify for the IHSA state meet the squad must make it in the top five at their respective sectional, this year ours was in Highland, Illinois. For the ICCA championship, a squad must make seventy-five percent of their overall score. This year OHS cheerleaders went to six competitions. Oblong went to three ICCA competitions and qualified at all three. OHS also placed fourth at the IHSA competition and was lucky enough to get to go to state. We also qualified to move onto the ICCA championship. Oblong is in the small varsity division due to our enrollment of under 660 students in our high school. There are also other divisions such as medium, large, and co-ed. The small varsity division consists of twelve or less girls or eleven girls and one guy. The medium division can have thirteen to sixteen girls or less. The large varsity can have seventeen or more on the floor, but also like the other divisions, they can have less. The co-ed division may...

...learning team C will emphasize is about the erected non-price barriers to gain entry into different markets. Competition to the University Of Phoenix There are four market structures commonly used to group and describe industries. The market structures include pure competition, pure monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly (McConnell, Brue, & Flynn, 2009). University of Phoenix (UOPX) is a school that offers various degrees in various fields. UOPX is not the only school on the market and eliminates the possibility of UOPX participating in a pure monopoly. An oligopoly market structure does not apply as well because a large number of programs are available from different schools. Pure competition market structure does not apply as well because UOPX has some control over their product price. Monopolistic competition is the most applicable market structure for UOPX. There are many schools that offer the same type of degrees and programs. University of Phoenix is one of the leading schools in its industry and as modern technology continues to change so does the university. One of the biggest barriers facing University of Phoenix and other schools is pricing. Differentiation of Products from Competitors The many schools must differentiate their products from other competitors. The type of product UOPX provides may not fit the monopolistic competition model but consumers are left to determine the value of the...

...A significant action of mine was when I was leading my VEX competition robot team and decided to scratch the build at the last minute. It seemed like a terrible idea, but we had no choice because we knew our robot was not ready for the competition and would fail to perform for sure. In one of the classes I took in high school, one of our yearlong projects was to build a robot and participate I in a local VEX robotics competition. In the competition, our built robot would compete against another in an arena that involved rubber balls. The goal was to get as many rubber balls on the other side as possible in a certain time. From the beginning, our team had many issues including malfunctioning parts, computer glitches, and part shortages. These unexpected and even frustrating inconveniences caused an innumerable amount of delays. Regardless, a week before the competition, we had a somewhat functional robot that was ready to be tested. However, when we finally held our breaths and began testing it, it failed miserably. The arm was too heavy for the motors, our wheels were too small, and the robot was too heavy. With only a week left before the competition, we felt that we were doomed to be the only team from our school who would embarrass ourselves at the competition....

...Since I was a little girl, my parents always taught me to be cultured on the clothes and didn't allow me to go anywhere unclean. They always say that people are more willing to social with dressy people especially when they are not familiar with you. Therefore, because of the influence from my parents, I often judge a person by my initial perception toward his or her dresses instead of comprehensive quality. However, one thing happened in my high school changed my opinion about if I should judge a person only by the initial perception. When I was in high school, I used to be the librarian of my high school library. When I did the interview to get my job, my teacher made a very good comment to me and also mentioned that I was a very careful girl because my school uniform still looked like a new one. One year later, I became the head librarian of my school library and my first task was to hire some new librarians. When I did the interview, I met a boy who looks didn't meet any of my requirements. He was in an old and ill-fitting school uniform and one of his shoes lace was loose. The boy didn't give me a good enough...
