The most appropriate research design for our chosen problem is descriptive. Descriptive research is concerned with finding out who, what, where, when, or how much. We chose not to use exploratory research because it is more appropriate for the total study in topic areas where the developed data are limited. We also chose not to use causal research because it focuses on the effect that a variable(s) has on another (or others) or why certain outcomes are obtained. Our study’s method of data collection is communication and the researcher control of variables is the ex post facto design. Longitudinal studies are the time dimension, statistical study for the topical scope, and field conditions for the research environment are most appropriate for our organizational problem. What data collection instrument(s) will be used? Survey? Interview?
There are two methods of research in which we are preparing to use. One method of research is the observation method and the other is the focus group method. Both methods are an excellent choice when trying to take control of the losses of a business do to theft.
The observation method which is sometime referred to as the field method will give Bloomingdale’s loss prevention team the ability to observer and gather first hand information from the loss prevention team on the behaviors of its employees’ theft problems and issues as well as the consumers. The biggest advantage of this method is that is gives the loss prevention teams an opportunity to participate in the survey. It also gives a greater validation to the information that was retrieved.
The focus group works well with each individual loss prevention group because it gives them a opportunity to work closely together in small groups and will limit the amount of information to just the participants in the group. When using a focus group it is a little more expensive than a few of the other methods, but you get your finding and information weeks before you would if you would by using one of the other survey methods.
Will you use an existing instrument or develop a new instrument?

Team B will use a newly developed instrument in order to gather information about the Loss Prevention Department. The Loss Prevention Department is Bloomingdale’s greatest investment that will help the company to prevent internal and external theft and it will also increase Bloomingdale’s revenue. Bloomingdale’s has been the target of theft crimes by its employees and by its customers. Bloomingdale’s has lost millions of dollars in revenue due to this crime. Bloomingdale’s considered cutting pay from management and even cutting some benefits that we offer our employees in order to compensate for the loss in revenue. However, after careful consideration executives felt that those cut backs may cause some ethical issues. Employees may feel that they are being punished for someone elses actions. Bloomingdales has now opened a Loss Prevention Department. After 90 days, Bloomingdales will randomly pick employees from the Loss Prevention Department and from the Inventory Department to discuss whether or not the new department has been successful at preventing theft. Team B will create a new instrument which will be a discussion guide in order to gather the needed information. Team B will create relevant questions that the members of the focus group will answer.

...to find out what the community thinks of this we will conduct a survey so that we have a better understanding of what types of things they would like to see in the store or what things they are looking for in a locally grown produce store, in return we plan on offering incentives for consumers to respond to a survey. We will utilize phone interviews and field surveys in order to establish the information we need. If so, how often? * Is healthy cooking important to you and your family? * Would you likely visit a restaurant that serves locally grown produce? * Would you shop at a farmers market that is open year round? * Would you buy growing space for a garden? * How far do you travel to buy groceries? * How far would you travel to this type of place? * Where do you currently shop for groceries and why? * Is price a consideration when deciding where to shop? E-Net Memo

...Date: [ 11/25/2012 ] Re: Site Survey Benefits A Site Survey is a detailed look into what normally takes place within the buildings of the company. It is also known as a “realistic understanding of the infrastructure required for the proposed wireless LAN solution” (University of Phoenix, 2004). Site Surveys are very important to a company when adding or changing an existing network. Site Surveys are a good source to help depict where the access points should be located based on the infrastructure and other interferences of the building in order to gain the best range of coverage. If a Site Survey is not conducted then there could be possible repercussions. If a Site Survey is not completed then it could cause disruption in the WLAN capabilities for the clients/customers and employees. This could result in higher costs to troubleshoot and correct the problems. It could also mean that there is significant down time which can increase the frustrations of the clients/customers. This could ultimately result in lost profits as the clients might choose to go elsewhere resulting in downsizing in the company. The list can go on for why a survey is a much needed item. There are three categories for tools that are needed to conduct a Site Survey. They are as follows: 1. Wireless tools – survey the access points 2. Measurement tools – measures radio frequency and packets 3. Documentation tools – blueprints, layout designs, Site Survey forms, and other supporting forms ...

...A few weeks back I tested out a theory on different ways to discipline my son, in the theory I conducted are different ways to discipline my son. Before conducting my research, I seek advice from friends and family members on different strategies on disciplining a child. After listening to their advices I got so many different advices, I was skeptical on witch one to use so, I decided to conduct a research of my own. The type of informal research method I used was Google it gave me a list of websites on how to discipline my child. After conducting my research I found many similarities methods with the methods a psychologist would suggest. Some of the method I used from my research was “no sudden moves” and “put out the fire.” The no sudden moves it’s method is to not charge at your children in the room or where ever they are playing in, after telling them they have a certain amount of time to play or do any activity they are doing before they have to put up everything. The put out the fire method is to wait for your child until they have calm down before talking to them on why they got upset. Even though the methods were quite similar the methods from the psychologist where more detailed on why you should and should not do certain things when using certain methods. If I were given another opportunity on how to discipline my son, I would of change many things on the methods I used on him. What I would of done differently, I would use a formal research on what methods are best on...

I know I have been challenged in the past with being certain I had investigated all potential sources of evidence. For example, many times, I am researching educational literature and I often find that I can locate information from a variety of sources including nursing databases (Cinahl). One of the most helpful things I have found to do is when I am conducting a search is to look in the reference list for the articles I am choosing to discover if I am missing an important article or book from a source I haven’t explored yet. I look forward to learning about the challenges you faced in your literature search and how you overcame those challenges. I can assure you that we will all learn a lot from this discussion. The Course Outcomes (COs) we will apply in Unit 3 include: • Examine the sources of evidence that contribute to professional nursing practice. • Apply research principles to the interpretation of the content of published research studies. Literature Review Week 3

...HRM-590-11541 Human Resource Management Literature Review Week 3 The first article I found to help me better understand job analysis and how to conduct one was by Lysaght R, Shaw L. and titled Job Analysis (What it is and how it is used).1 This article was very helpful because it showed and explained to me the key elements that are needed when conducting a good strong job analysis. This article showed me that I needed to include both essential and non-essential task descriptions. It also gave specifics on the type of equipment that would need to be used and physical demands as well as many other things to include in my analysis. I was honestly hoping this article would help me more. Though I found some of it useful, it didn’t really help me understand what exactly I need to do to gather the information needed in the job analysis. The second article I found was by Jody Wheaton. Her article is all about how conducting a proper job analysis can improve your business. In the article she describes different ways to actually conduct a job analysis. The thing I took from this article was mostly the importance of actually doing research into the job. Because of this article, I actually sought out the HR department and found out what kind of things they would actually need in an HR reception/assistant position. I wanted to know what kind of equipment they would be using and what exactly they would like that person in that role to do. Jody Wheaton states that “Knowledge, skills...

That night the board had their meeting and six people were nominated for one position. Cartwright explained that the first nomination to get five votes from the board would win the election. Grigg went on to say that you have to vote on each nomination and President Goffredo and Solicitor Spray both told Grigg that this the way the election is conducted and there wasn’t going to be another vote.
