Global warming is largely attributed to human activities that emit greenhouse gases to the atmosphere rather than the natural causes. The greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are the main causes of global warming since presence in the atmosphere leads to absorption of heat energy from the sun rather than emitting it to the space (Silver 135). The issue of climate change is a global concern since affects all regions and not just the countries where there are huge emission of greenhouse gases. Despite this, the initiatives to control global warming mainly lie with the governments, environmental organizations, and industries whereas there is little input of the individuals. These agencies are characterized with deep information about the consequences of global warming that is linked to strong intervention practices adopted. There are numerous researches conducted on global warming and consequences whose discussions are embraced in government and environmental agencies. Greater success of intervention practices would be achieved through increased involvement of the people. Since the knowledge of global warming impacts is influential to the development of control measures, greater understanding of the impacts of global warming would be instrumental to attain increased involvement of individuals in intervention practices.
Global warming causes extreme temperatures, which affect quality of life and could be unbearable to people and other living organisms in highly affected regions. Global warming involves a general increase in atmospheric temperature and is experienced around the globe (McNall 1). Increased temperature affects people have adapted to lower temperatures experienced in the past. The increase in temperatures in hot and desert regions makes life extremely uncomfortable for people and other living organisms (The Nature Conservancy 1). The people are discouraged from carrying out their normal activities in the hot sun and those exposed to high temperatures could experience survival difficulties that may lead to death. In order to experience lower temperatures, people are forced to install heat conditioners though are limited to buildings since cannot be used in the open. The wild animals are forced to move to colder regions and some die leading to their extinction (Casper 4). The vegetation dries up due to increased evaporation rates leading to environmental degradation that is unattractive. In cold regions, extreme temperatures would be experienced during hot and cold seasons. Some people may not adapt to these changes and could die. In other regions, there are also temperature increases that negatively impact the lives of people, animals and plants. From this discussion, rise in temperature influence lives in all regions and consequences are experienced by individuals. The situation would worsen if adequate interventions are not adopted and inputs of individuals are necessary to attain sustainable control measures.
Global warming affects the agricultural activities leading to lower production that threaten global food security. Agricultural activities in many places depend on natural climatic conditions such as rains and temperature, which are affected as a result of global warming (Haldar 47). Global warming leads to increased temperatures that affect normal growth of some crops that could lead to death or low yield. High temperature raise evaporation levels and crops would lack enough water for high production and in some situations dry up before fruition. Global warming also causes short and irregular rainy seasons that may not last throughout the life cycles of crops. Consequently, farmers that depend on rain for production of agricultural produce experience crop failure and low yields. Climate changes have created conditions for survival of pests that attack and destroy crops (Haldar 53). As a result, some produce is destroyed while in firms or in stores. Animal farming is also affected through reduced growth of vegetation leading to inadequate food for animals for normal growth and some animals would die, causing losses for the farmers. The cumulative effect on agriculture is reduced production to feed the ever growing population. This threatens sustainable food production for people and there are risks of food shortages (The Nature Conservancy 1). In some regions, people have suffered or died due lack of food and global warming is one of the contributing factors. A strong conscience of people about food insecurity due to global warming could inspire them to actively engage in intervention activities.
Climate change is associated with increased health problems for the people that affect their living conditions. Good health is desirable to promote higher living standards as well as happiness for the people, but is discouraged through the consequences of global warming. High temperatures increase the vulnerability of people to health problems such as skin diseases and other health problems (Haldar 46). People absorb high dosages of sun’s radiation through their skins which could cause skin rashes as well as sunburns. In addition, higher dosages would lead to delayed health consequences such as promoting skin cancer. Also, harmful sun rays reach the people due to the destruction of the ozone layer and this increases risk to health problems such as visual blindness as well as cancer. High temperatures also promote spread of diseases by creating a thriving environment for the microorganism and other infections transmitted to the people (The Nature Conservancy 1). For instance, high temperatures promote breeding of mosquitoes that could lead to increased cases of malaria. Increased health problems lead to physical and emotional suffering for the people alongside the burdens of high health care costs that may lead to poor living conditions and poverty. Global warming has far reaching effects on health of the people and greater awareness could encourage them to participate in the intervention programs that would avoid more consequences in the future.
Global warming contributes to flooding in coastal regions and some flat areas which causes loss of property alongside the consequences of floods. Global warming has led to melting of ice in glaciated regions such as along the earth’s poles leading to increasing sea levels (Carey 19). The water from melting ice eventually ends up in the water bodies and oceans and the nearby communities face threats of being submerged. Melting ice has a permanent effect of raising ocean and sea levels, implying that the coastal places would be lost as well as property such as building and ports. Global warming also leads to high evaporation rates that lead to heavy rainfalls along the coastal regions. These rainfalls lead to flooding as well as destruction of property (The Nature Conservancy 1). Floods have health implications for the coastal people such as the spread of waterborne and related diseases. People in the main lands may not experience these floods, but if they acquire information, they would increase support for the practices of combating global warming to in order to save the coastal communities.
Global warming is associated with increasing costs and use of resources that could otherwise help in development projects. Countries and other environmental organizations incur high costs in activities to control global warming and the costs would increase in the future if preventive practices are not adopted. There are increasing activities that contribute to global warming and increased costs would be incurred in the future (Letcher 133). The costs could be minimized if the human activities leading to global warming are minimized and people have a role to play. This would require increased participation of people in the prevention activities and would be achieved by creating greater awareness of costs incurred in addressing challenges of global warming to the people. Consequently, finances and resources saved would be used in other projects to attain increased developments.
In conclusion, this paper has explored the consequences of the global warming to provide understanding that could encourage participation people in intervention activities. Effects of global warming include extreme temperatures that affect the quality of the lives of people as well as other living organisms and in some cases the temperatures are unbearable leading to death. Agricultural activities are negatively affected through low productions that threaten global food security. Global warming also leads to increased health problems due to the radiation of the sun or favorable environment created for disease carriers. Further, global warming cause flooding in coastal areas due to rise in sea level resulting from by melting ice and heavy rains. There are also huge costs involved in combating global warming that could be used to enhance other developments. Governments and environmental organizations have deep knowledge of the consequences of global warming and could account to stronger interventions taken. In similar ways, people could increase active participation if they have deep knowledge of the consequences of climate change. Works Cited
