The main costs associated with the production of VectorCal’s drone navigation system are the labor cost and material cost. VectorCal’s drone navigation system has two types of labor cost, direct labor and indirect labor.
Direct labor cost is wages that are incurred in order to produce specific goods or provide specific services to customers. It also includes the payroll taxes associated with those wages, plus the cost of company paid medical insurance, life insurance, workers' compensation insurance, any company matched pension contributions, and other company benefits (Adams, 2014). Indirect labor is the cost of any labor that supports the production process, but which is not directly involved in the active conversion of materials into finished products. Indirect labor cost would include production supervisor, purchasing staff, materials handling staff and materials management staff. The cost of both types of indirect labor can be fully loaded with the costs of benefits and payroll taxes for financial analysis or cost accounting purposes, since these additional costs are closely associated with the indirect labor positions (Adams, 2014).
Direct material cost is the cost of important materials that are used in the manufacture of a product or used in providing a service. Direct material costs are definitely identifiable to the contract. The concept of estimating direct materials costs is very straightforward. It consists of determining what is needed, how much is needed, and figuring the cost of the components Types of direct material cost VectorCal would be associated with is timber, steel, and circuit boards. To determine the amount of direct materials cost in a product, create a bill of materials, which specifies the quantity of each raw material item and component included in a product. Then assign a standard cost to each item, based on recent prices paid for

The Fizzy Wars

...Managers 551 – Trimester 1, 2014 | Assessment 1 – Contemporary Economic Analysis | “The Fizzy Wars” Lee Johnston (16927959) Daniel Wilson (17491934) Greig Maitland (17485047) | The two major players in the Australian soft drink industry, Schweppes and Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA), have been competing for market share for some time, creating a ‘price-war’ between the firms. The article chosen for this Assignment, “Price Rises hit customers in the fizzy wars”, (Mitchell 2014) signals the end of this ‘price-war’ and details the following; * Last year Schweppes implemented aggressive discounting in an attempt to increase its volumes, market share and boost sales of its new product; Pepsi Next. * Cost of production for soft drink has increased due to higher costs in materials, utilities and distribution. Neither firm could raise prices due to the above-mentioned ‘price-war’. * Schweppes parent company Asahi has issued a mandate for the firm to increase margins to 10% by 2015 and so Schweppes have been forced to raise prices to meet this deadline. CCA have followed suit by raising prices, thus, ending the ‘price-war’. In this assignment we briefly explain the background of the Australian soft drink industry’s decrease in demand and increase in production costs and provide an economic analysis of Schweppes decision to raise prices, focusing on the short run and long run costs in a competitive market versus an oligopoly. Finally predictions on what...

The design for valves is unique and it can be produced to tolerances that are better than any in the industry. e. Wilkerson established a loyal customer base because of the high quality of their valves. f. Wilkerson’s existing labor skills and machining equipment can be used to produce pumps and flow controllers. 2. Given the problems Wilkerson is having allocating overhead to products, should it consider abandoning overhead allocation altogether and switching to a direct costing or contribution margin approach (measuring product profitability as price less direct materials and direct labor costs only) with its products? They should have both. Net income under variable costing and absorption costing won’t be different because Just-In-Time system minimizes inventory, which is the root of the difference between the two reporting statements. Evaluation of Fleet Management

...September 5, 2014 | Re: | Evaluation of Fleet Expansion – A-320 vs. MD-80 | | | SH&E conducted an intense, detailed and comprehensive analysis, that included thorough research and exploration into Allegiant Air’s fleet expansion needs. To complete this analysis we compared existing and current market statistics, which pertains specifically to the fleet expansion needs. It is the recommendation of SH&E, that Allegiant Air purchase the McDonnell Douglas MD-80’s at a price of $4,000,000. It is the belief of SH&E, that the purchase of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80’s, is a prudent and sensible decision, versus a price of $62,600,000 for the Airbus A-320. SH&E thorough research showed that given the net present value, also known as NPV, the expenses for the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 is estimated at $44,200,000, in comparison to the Airbus A-320’s NPV of $93,600,000. If Allegiant Air were to purchase the McDonnell Douglas MD-80, over the fifteen year lifespan, this would allow Allegiant Air to save approximately $50,000,000 in operating costs. There is a summary below of the analysis and research that includes the methodology and assumptions that were used to conduct and thus support SH&E’s recommendation. The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 has a different seating capacity than the Airbus A-320.To compare these aircraft, a Cost per Available Seat Mile, also known as CASM, was used as the suitable decision criterion. Another way to think of this comparison is to use an...

Break Even Analysis

...This essay serves to discuss the various uses of break even analysis in financial entrepreneurship and how the breakeven point is affected by the choice of labor intensive or capital intensive manufacturing technique. The essay will commence by defining the key term breakeven analysis and will proceed by explaining the uses, limitations and as well as how the breakeven point is affected bythe manufacturing facility (LABOR INTENSIVE AND CAPITAL INTENSIVE). Breakeven analysis is a study of the mathematical relationship between costs and sales revenues, under a given set of assumptions regarding fixed costs and variable costs. It is an integral part of financial planning performed either by using a formula or a chart. In financial analysis ,the objective is to determine (in manufacturing) number of products that must be sold ata given price to cover the costs ,or (in project financing) number of months or years required by forecasted total net cash flow to equal estimated total project cost. The breakeven formula is represented below; BREAK EVEN POINT = FIXED COSTS / (UNIT SELLING PRICE – VARRIABLE COST) Using the above formula, the business can determine how many units it needs to produce in order to break even. Once the business has reached this point, in sales or units sold, all cost has been recovered. Beyond this point every additional unit sold will result in increasing profit for the business. Break even analysis is therefore been considered as a tool widely used across industries...

Navigation System Price Analysis

...Navigation System Price Analysis Strayer University BUS315 Cost and Price Analysis Professor Stephen Bartorillo May 4, 2015 Price Analysis The primary costs being considered by Bickham Services Unlimited for the pricing strategy of the HSNS-P1 is the cost of manufacturing. In our case the cost of manufacturing is very high because the raw materials required, such as the unmanned, manned systems, aircrafts, space systems and other technological materials required, are too expensive. Also we need highly skilled and technical professionals for the manufacturing process to be directly involved in monitoring and manufacturing the system. The administrative cost are the most important expense because it aids the production of the drone navigation system as it covers the extra costs that come up. Consideration of our products cost will be essential for effective pricing. Inventory evaluation has to be made in order to determine the required inventory needed for manufacturing the HSNS-P1 unit. Unit costing will aid in the determination of appropriate cost of the final product (April 30, 2015, blog.cordiars.website). Transportation costs of the required raw materials will be included in the pricing. This is because we will need to import some highly sensitive materials for the manufacturing process. The price analysis was conducted based on: * Competitive proposals where price is not part of the proposal * Small purchase with documented published price lists from selected...
