In her article, Cris Tovani describes how frustrating it is for students when they are not sure what the purpose is in their reading assignments. When it is unclear what a teacher wants, having a “fake purpose” can help the reader pin down an understanding of what they are reading (2005). My love for reading came from having a fantastic fifth-grade teacher.
