Aamna Khalid Critique on “Wither Pakistan? A Five Year Forecast” “Islamic Republic of Pakistan”, the full name of this Islamic state clearly shows that Pakistan was bestowed by Allah to us for independent practicing of Islamic principles. After 60 years of sustenance, Pakistan has achieved the hallmark of being a dominant nuclear power but despite of being strong arsenal bank, terrorists have hit the state with full force and their atrocities have prevailed over most of the Northern areas of Pakistan. Pervez Hoodbhoy has written his article “whither Pakistan? A Five-Year Forecast” in this context and this article was published on 3rd June, 2009 in the magazine “Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists”. This was the time when Pak army was totally engaged in wiping out the terrorists from Northern Areas. Pervez Hoodbhoy is an eminent physicist and political-defense analyst, and his concentration in this article is quite coherent with the present condition of terrorism in Pakistan. The lack of interest of Army during the initial advancement of terrorists in Northern areas has led towards a serious demise of national interests. Although the writer has written this article in a great sequence and coherence and the various tactics used in this article urges reader to be convinced but the lack of evidence in the arguments , biased assumptions and inefficient solutions doubt the credibility of the author’s claim. This article discusses the invasion of Taliban and so called Mujahidins on the Northern areas of Pakistan like Swat, Malakand Division, Waziristan, and Buner etc. The author has reflected that these terrorists are being trained in the Madrassas of Pakistan by Mullahs, who are religious extremists and are misinterpreting the Islamic values of Jihad in training the adolescents. The rhetoric styles used by the author like “: The clouds hanging …….darker” (Paragraph 3) show that how progressively author describes the sensitivity of the issue. The writer has also used pathos to swing the moods of reader in paragraph 19 “Pakistan’s support lifeline must not be cut”. The specific annotation in this article is the statement of forecast made by American think-tanks, who predict the demise of Pakistan in the near future due the prevailing threats of TTPs. The author has also claimed that Army is responsible for the current strength of terrorists because it had not made any advancement in communicating with the terrorists during the time of their origin. The author’s view about the solution is to make an alliance with the America, India and other neighboring countries to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan. The author has also addressed the actual issues which should be pondered upon instead of terrorism, i.e. the economic issues and political aspects of Pakistan. The main audience of author is the people of Pakistan but somehow, he has also taken in account the global community as in (Paragraph16). The important feature of this article is that it has differentiated the TTP from Afghan Taliban, where Afghan Taliban are fighting against the American intruders while Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan are the tribal agents, being somehow produced in the madrassas. Whether directly or indirectly, most of the religious extremists are showing the virgin adolescents, the dreams of fairies which they will get as a reward from God after a suicide attack. US govt. has set economic sanctions on a madrassa in Peshawar as it was found to be engaged in developing terrorists in there. Lal Masjid is very famous for training women and children and it was demolished just because of the fact that it engaged in destroying certain buildings and flaring the oppression on the name of religion. These terrorists are dwelling in the mountains of Waziristan and it is very hard for the armed forces to get a clue of their presence. The TTPs are spread all over the northern mountain range and Northern cities of Pakistan and their network istrengthening since 2007. These terrorists have now placed their camps in southern Punjab by the name of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and such others like these. The article also refers to how the religious extremists have shown their rage towards education and hospitals, which clearly shows that their motives are never positive and they seem only to harm the roots of Pakistan. These terrorists were first considered to be fundamentalists and supported by general public but the terror attacks in Swat and Malakand had unveiled the true faces of these terrorists. The word “en masse” in paragraph 7 shows how brutally these terrorists had crashed the public and armed entities and while imposing their own form Islamic laws in these areas, they had led towards a devastation of socio-cultural community in Northern Areas. The destruction of schools in Northern Areas in a large number and forcing the women to wear hijab is seriously a thrust of forcing the nation to become extremist. These terrorists want an anti-secular state and even then they do not have any clear motive that why they are all doing this kind of brutality. Moreover, when talking about the schools, most of the co-education institutes had received serious threats from Taliban that their culture must be changed or these institutes will be bombarded. NUST, LUMS and other such institutes had received such threats. Only in June 2013, three schools were bombarded in KPK and a school principal was assassinated by terrorists. Now, there are such flaws in the article when the author is unable to give a logical reason. The author has described in paragraph 9 that army did not nurture the terrorists during their initial outbreak but reality is that Taliban never wanted to talk to army and they opened fire on forces where they killed 23 soldiers during encounter with army troops. Pakistan Army had launched “Operation Rah-eNijat” in 2009 after having disagreements with tribal leaders involved in this fight, and today, “Operation Zarb-e-azb” continues to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan. This operation and other similar operations also started during the first attacks of terrorists but according to Hoodbhoy, the army is responsible for the increasing number of “Taliban” and “Mujahidins” because it did not communicate with the terrorists earlier. Some of the Hoodbhoy’s statements are fallacious as they have been either countered or they lack evidence, as he has stated in paragraph 12 “Tribal insurgents cannot overrun Islamabad and Pakistan's main cities, which are protected by thousands of heavily armed military and paramilitary troops” which clearly shows that author is pretty firm on his believes that these insurgents cannot reach out towards the important and high security areas of Pakistan but the attacks on General Head Quarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, Mehran Base and Chaklala Air Base has put a question mark on the author’s idea. These places are the most critical places with respect to the Army’s major defense related areas and these areas have the highest security that it is most improbable to cross the check posts of these places but then the terrorists break into these places and hit the most secured territories under Army. He has also indicated towards some “”rogue elements” in the same paragraph 12 which implies that there are some religious extremists in the army who are responsible for these attacks on army areas because these areas are under strict surveillance of armed forces and breaking the locks of army is only possible if someone does so from the inside. This statement of Hoodbhoy seems fragile as there is no proof that any army officer was involved in these activities. Now coming towards the biased statement that the author made i.e. the author has only depicted the American view about the terrorism in Pakistan. Here, we cannot forget the fact America made alliance with Pakistan to break down Soviet Union and at that time, America ordered Pakistan to produce the tribal insurgents which it named as Mujahidins and the fight was called Jihad. America after completion of its goal, left Pakistan behind to suffer with the post-war circumstances. The result was furious and all those Mujahdins which Pakistan produced went against Pakistan as they were misused by Americans on the behalf of Pakistan’s government and army. America portrayed Pakistan as a terrorist country and spoiled its image in front of global community. Pakistan had to face this loss and up till today, Pakistan is engaged in a war with those Mujahidins and America calls it a war against terror. However, even If yet someone believes that Pakistan is yet a country promoting war, terror, rage and harassment, then he/she must take in account for the history of Soviet Union break down and then he will come to know that who is the real terrorist. The solution devised by the author is not suitable at this moment because our nation is Anti-American but the author is only taking the political scenario of Pakistan in account, where our government has somehow managed to establish good relations with the American president. The author is only looking at one side of the picture, where a healthy relation between the ministries of both countries are depicted and America is being portrayed as the only Omnipotent country, which feels for Pakistan and really wants to help it. Giving aids and calling Pakistanis “terrorists” at the same time, is not acceptable by the nation. Drone attacks are done blindly on the Northern areas wherever any house or shelter is detected and many innocent people have lost their lives in these brutal attacks by America in the name of fighting against terrorism. Civil arrogance has flared up against America after such a response from this country and now, it is better to keep America out of this issue. In such circumstances, proposing a reductionist solution where alliance with America is the only way to eradicate terrorism from the root is not acceptable. Also, the neighboring countries have not taken any positive step against terrorism in Pakistan so far, so we can only expect to wait for their modesty.
However, the author has written a well-organized article and the structure of the article is coherent. The reader seems to be bound to the author’s ideas due to the issue raised in the article and the arguments made. This article is yet a need for the current era of Pakistan because the terrorism has not diminished yet but because of the generalized assumptions and lack of evidence in the arguments, the article yet seems to be a question in the head of the reader. Terrorism has not ended yet. After beautifully describing the problem, the author has stuck into an inappropriate solution which is not feasible for Pakistan at current.

...Game Journal 6 The school of criticism that made the most sense to me was by far the biographical critique. In my opinion the vast majority of the other critiques read as though the author was simply trying to find examples for that particular type of critique where there was probably very little intentioned meaning behind it. Some of the meaning behind the game that was analyzed seemed as though it was forced. The biographical critique, however, analyzes the author’s intent behind the game using quotes from the author himself. This lends more authority to the critique and prevented it from feeling as though meaningless aspects of the game were being critiqued. In the biographical critique for Katamari Damacy the critic uses the author’s own words to describe how the author intended the game to affect his audience. This is information straight from the source and thus allows for the game to be looked at in a new light. The author intended the game’s peaceful, fun, game that is almost devoid of conflict to brighten the lives of everyone that played it and thus make the world better. The critic in a more thorough analysis could then have described whether the game is successful in doing that, and if so by how much. The biographical critique provided the author’s motivations behind making the game. This is a strong basis on which to critique the game. Analyze the author’s intent behind making the game along with how well the game imparts the author’s message. By doing this...

Models Not Critics

...be wrong but my opinion on “Young people need models not critics” still holds. I do however slightly understand when adults want us to know right from wrong, and know to do the right thing. My problem with this is after or in some occasions before they preach to us about being the best we can be, they demonstrate the total opposite. Being part of the younger generation I’m not sure if I’m speaking for myself when I say we don’t need a how to. What we need are people who understand us and who demonstrate the things that they speak upon, rather than pointing fingers and demonstrating the opposite of which they speak. Adults aren’t perfect but if they’re able to critique the actions of the younger generation, they should be able to perform those same things they advised us to do better. Maybe its even better to not critique us, and once we...

...Critique of Research Article Name Instructor Unit Date Medical articles can be well analyzed based on the content, the reputation of the authors among other useful information. However, it is paramount that evidence based practice (EBP) be adopted when analyzing an article. According to Sackett et al (1996, pg 71-72) “Evidence based medicine is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients”. The best available and current research is utilized in making a judgment about the article in question (Drisko and Grady2012). The research article, Healthcare Providers’ Intentions to Engage in an Interprofessional Approach to Shared Decision-Making in Home Care Programs: A Mixed Methods Study by Legare et al., presents views of the healthcare providers in the implementation of the interprofessional approach to shared decision-making (IP-SDM). In addition, it evaluates their intention for engaging in the program. The IP-SDM program has been gaining popularity in Canada but it is yet to be incorporated into the healthcare system (Reeves et al., 2008) Interprofessional approach entails the engagement of different professionals within the healthcare system, where all contribute towards the achievement of a common method of patient care. In addition, the aspect of shared decision-making entails the development of a system that involves the patients in determining the type of treatment that is given...

...CRITIQUE The following is a critique of the Joomla! User Manual 1.0. The URL of the page is as follows http://help.joomla.org/images/User_manual/user_manual_v1%200%201_10%2021%2006.pdf. This a critique of the installation portion. It also covers some features of the Joomla! Installer that is based on browser and the Manual Installation. The links for these are http://help.joomla.org/content/view/39/165/ and http://help.joomla.org/content/view/40/132/ respectively. Only recently, I installed the software Joomla!. At first I tried the “easy browser install”. But I couldn’t do it and I failed. I then tried using the manual for instructions to help me to install the software. But, the installation procedure through the user manual took me over 15 hours. I later realized, it was not entirely the mistakes of the install process of the software due to which I consumed so much time, but rather the user manual was fairly out-of-date, deceptive and deficient. Overview: • The first and major fault with the document was that it was a “fair weather friend”. If everything operates smoothly, then you rarely need to consult the installation portion. But if some trouble arises, the user manual is ill-equipped to handle it. A quick scan of the Installation part of this manual gives the idea of many users who are having trouble installing the software because they have broken and incomplete installs. • The attempt of the manual to make itself user friendly is actually a drawback for it. It...

Wal-Mart was founded in 1962, with the opening of the first Wal-Mart discount store in Rogers, Ark. The company incorporated as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., on Oct. 31, 1969. The company's shares began trading on OTC markets in 1970 and were listed on the New York Stock Exchange two years later. The company grew to 276 stores in 11 states by the end of the decade. In 1983, the company opened its first Sam’s Club membership warehouse and in 1988 opened the first supercenter -- now the company’s dominant format -- featuring a complete grocery in addition to general merchandise. Wal-Mart became an international company in 1991 when it opened its first Sam's Club near Mexico City. The Wal-Mart incorporators then made a website called Walmart.com where they sell products online to people that prefers to shop that way. Walmart.com feature selections of high-quality merchandise like clothing for children, teens, women and men, electronics, jewelry, shoes, household products, and much more. ...Final Paper Today I will discuss my final peer critique of Aaron, as written and evaluated by me,. As I set and prepared for Aaron’s speech, I notice his dress and demeanor. He appeared well to do with his jacket and slacks. As I further examined him I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a pair of work boots. I took this as to be the way Aaron is and nothing else. For if you know Aaron, you know he has a casual attitude and always ready with a smile. Before the class started that day we talked about our speeches and if we could convince ourselves of the topics we had decided on. He seemed a little nervous about his topic because he did not fully agree or disagree with the appearance of tattoos. We talked about both pros and cons of this idea but could not agree on one side. He told me that he had chosen the topic and was going to do what he could to convince us, though you could tell he was nervous. As Aaron stepped up to do his speech, that’s when I noticed his nerves set in on him. He didn’t seem as if he could loosen up and I believe the main reason why was because he wasn’t too sure of his topic. I do believe if he was convinced about it himself, he would have delivered a much better speech. His speech was well organized and prepared and followed the main ideas of what a speech should be, yet he was allowing his nerves to make him loose eye contact. As his speech proceeded Aaron settled down enough to allow his words to flow better. Here is where...

...Mobile health or mHealth is a technology that concerns about health objective. It is a health service delivery in mobile phone. Most people usually have their own phone. This essay is a critique to “Mobile technology is changing healthcare in developing nations” by Puddak Thomas published in Berkeley Science Digest on December 23, 2012. This paper criticize the weakness of the essay, which is the usage of SANA, and the two fallacies, which are appeal to the crowd in paragraph two and non-sequitur in paragraph five.         Firstly, the omission of this article is the writer did not show a method of SANA. It is a tool that uses video, image and text for helping people, and people are able to download it for their health. Sana is a cell phone facilitated clinical information system that connects community health workers and medical specialists (Behar, 2012). Author wants to demonstrate that SANA helps people, but he did not tell the readers how SANA saves people life. One study shows that SANA collects data and interviews the patient through the clinical protocol by healthcare workers. When the data is collected and uploaded, the partner hospital’s doctors will read the information about the patients and make an effective diagnosis recommendation for the patients. If the doctors has a question, they are able to ask the patients by using SANA application (Dmjue, 2014). According to...

...Critique writing - The Visitor This essay will provide a critical view of Patricia Cresswell’s “The Visitor”. It will look at the use of language, point of view, use of imagery, characterisation and setting to name but a few. I will provide my opinions on the piece of writing and explain my reasoning behind this. Cresswell’s use of language in The Visitor strongly suggests to me that McGill is isolated and lonely. The use of the word “frosted” when describing the outside of McGill’s home could be seen as a metaphor for his personality. The writer also states that the “frosted grass” could be “anticipating the approach of an intruder”. The word intruder is a strong choice of word, as opposed to guest or visitor, suggesting that the idea of a visitor is baffling. Another example is shown on line four where the text states McGill’s home is “the only sign of civilization for miles around” and “it occurred to him someone might be outside”. This immediately confirms to the reader that McGill has been alone for quite some time and would not usually expect any visitors. I also feel that the writer’s use of the words “ice cold lips” and “cold as marble” when describing the young girl connects her to McGill as this suggests that she may be lonely too. Cresswell is careful when characterising McGill, I believe he is shown to be a simple man with the best intentions but lacking in social skills due to his environment. This is backed up within the text “she was small and frail… he was...

...Critique of a journal article: The Black Family during Slavery: Addressing Stereotypes Restoring Truth In the article “ The Black Family during Slavery”, the author Verene Shepherd put into context the black family during slavery and tries to lay to rest some of the myths that still exist to this day about the black man and woman of slavery. In doing this she explore two schools of research into enslave people’s family, these are: the structuralist and class theorist. The structuralist believes that the system of slavery constraints cultural expressions including family formation. This means that slaves were unable to maintain proper familial structure base on their very way of life, because they were restricted to what their owners would permit. The class theorist argues that slavery allows those enslave some autonomy in constructing kinship and other forms of culture. It means then that this system allows slave to explore other cultures and choose their own partner and also develop familiar familial structures similar to present day realities. Shepherd posits that the stereotypes that were created about black families during slavery are to be cleared up because these were not the truth. She then tries to present the points that were not considered by the structuralist. To extricate the points that were presented, shepherd present research evidence that contradicts the structuralist arguments about black family’s and how they exist during slavery. These are: * The...
