How many different three-letter initials with none of the letters repeated can people have. Solution. One has 26 choices for the first initial, 25 for the second, and 24 for the third, for a total of (26)(25)(24) possible initials. 4.1.18. How many positive integers less than 1000 (a) are divisible by 7? (b) are divisible by 7 but not by 11? (c) are divisible by both 7 and 11? (d) are divisible by either 7 or 11? (e) are divisible by exactly one of 7 or 11? (f ) are divisible by neither 7 nor 11? (g) have distinct digits? (h) have distinct digits and are even? Solution. (a) Every 7th number is divisible by 7. Since 1000 = (7)(142) + 6, there are 142 multiples of seven less than 1000. (b) Every 77th number is divisible by 77. Since 1000 = (77)(12) + 76, there are 12 multiples of 77 less than 1000. We don’t want to count these, so there are 142 − 12 = 130 multiples of 7 but not 11 less than 1000. (c) We just figured this out to get (b)—there are 12. (d) Since 1000 = (11)(90) + 10, there are 90 multiples of 11 less than 1000. Now, if we add the 142 multiples of 7 to this, we get 232, but in doing this we’ve counted each multiple of 77 twice. We can correct for this by subtracting off the 12 items that we’ve counted twice. Thus, there are 232-12=220 positive integers less than 1000 divisible by 7 or 11. (e) If we want to exclude the multiples...

Buying and selling decisions of the firm 3. The determination of prices and in markets 4. The quantity, quality and variety of products 5. Profits 6. Consumers’ satisfaction There are two sides in a market for a good DEMAND SUPPLY Created by Consumers Created by firms Each consumer maximizes Each firm maximizes its satisfaction (“utility”) profits ------------------------------- ------------------------------ CONSUMPTION THEORY PRODUCTION THEORY 1 We will first study consumption and later production. In the third part of the course we will take the “demand” schedule from the consumption analysis and the “supply” schedule from the production analysis and put them together in a market. The price, and the quantity exchanged will be determined in the market. We will also discuss the performance and efficiency of markets. A. CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS UNDER CERTAINTY 1. Goods are products or services that consumers or businesses desire. Examples: a book, a telephone call, insurance coverage. Goods may be directly desired by consumers or may contribute to the production of other goods that are desired by consumers. For example a machine used in the production of cars is desirable because it is useful in the production of cars, ...

... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colombia) The Republic of Colombia, named for the explorer Christopher Columbus, is located in northwestern South America. It is bordered by Panama and the Caribbean Sea to the north, Venezuela and Brazil to the east, Peru and Ecuador to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Colombia is the fourth largest country in South America and one of the continent's most populous nations. The capital of Colombia is Bogota. Colombia has substantial oil reserves and is a major producer of gold, silver, emeralds, platinum and coal. Colombia is one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists to work. Media workers face intimidation by drug traffickers, guerrillas and paramilitary groups. More than 120 Colombian journalists were killed in the 1990s, many for reporting on drug trafficking and corruption. Colombia has a highly stratified society where the traditionally rich families of Spanish descent have benefited from this wealth to a far greater degree than the majority, mixed-race population. This gap in social class has provided a natural cause for the left-wing insurgents. (Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations, Gale Research, Page 129) Approximately 1 million native people lived in Colombia before the arrival of the Spaniards. The Spaniards arrived in the early 1500s. Rodrigo de Batidas established the first permanent Spanish settlement, at Santa Marta, in 1525. While the Spaniards were organizing their colonial territories, the...

...What is a Kanban? James Chapados and Agnieszka Perlinska Stowe Consulting Company PO Box 3923 Stowe, Vermont 05672 Phone: 802-635-3676 info@stoweconsultingcompany.com www.stoweconsultingcompany.com 2 Introduction A key tool in lean manufacturing is the kanban. For one of the authors, James Chapados, learning about kanbans was helped by experiences with his mother. My mother was many things, an Olympic caliber tennis player and remarkable all round athlete, a brilliant English and math teacher, witty, charming, fun, impulsive, and a loving, kind human being. But she was not what one would call a good cook. Indeed, it is hard to think of her as a cook at all. To avoid her cooking, both my sister and I learned to cook when very young. My sister and father usually took turns cooking dinner until I was old enough to become a part of the rotation. It was more self-defense than anything else. But my mother ran one heck of an efficient pantry. I never knew us to run out of any staple, be it flour, sugar, the ubiquitous “luncheon meat”, eggs, crackers, milk, or catsup (she always spelled it catsup, not ketchup, I don’t know why). At the same time, we never seemed to have a lot of stuff on the shelves. My mother would put together a shopping list for my father to buy from on Saturday mornings. It always had on it what we needed in specific quantities – one box of oatmeal, two boxes of cornflakes, two dozen eggs, one can of asparagus, three cans of corn, etc...

...Joycene Harrell CRM-430 Term Paper Week 5 Draft Summary for Prison Rehabilitation and Counseling Programs I chose to focus this term paper on the various programs offered to prisoners as part of their rehabilitation for introduction back into society. In today’s world there are many who believe that every one can be rehabilitated. The question should be asked; “does rehabilitation really work for everyone?” I will provide statistics on the success and failure rate, as well as which programs are most beneficial to prisoners. Whether rehabilitation and counseling works or not, something has to be done to assist prisoners in order for them to lead a normal life upon their release. I will discuss some of the many programs offered by various states ranging from “Pets in Prison” to obtaining college degrees. I will explain the various types of counseling offered to sex offenders, pedophiles and murderers. Those are a few topics I feel should have special interest in the counseling/rehabilitation area. I am sure most would agree that prisoners should receive some type of counseling and rehabilitation, but where do you draw the line on the rehabilitation services offered? Should the money from taxpayers be used to fund certain types of programs, how does the prison system decide who gets to participate in which programs, and how can counselors and judicial boards ensure there will be no regression? Those are just a couple of questions that will be answered...

...Part: FOUR Credit Management of The premier bank ltd. Part: Four Credit Management Credit Management: Credit management is a term used to identify accounting functions usually conducted under the umbrella of Accounts Receivables. Essentially, this collection of processes involves qualifying the extension of credit to a customer, monitors the reception and logging of payments on outstanding invoices, the initiation of collection procedures, and the resolution of disputes or queries regarding charges on a customer invoice. When functioning efficiently, credit management serves as an excellent way for the business to remain financially stable. The process of credit management begins with accurately assessing the credit-worthiness of the customer base. This is particularly important if the company chooses to extend some type of credit line or revolving credit to certain customers. Proper credit management calls for setting specific criteria that a customer must meet before receiving this type of credit arrangement. As part of the evaluation process, credit management also calls for determining the total credit line that will be extended to a given customer. Several factors are used as part of the credit management process to evaluate and qualify a customer for the receipt of some form of commercial credit. This includes gathering data on the potential customer’s current financial condition, including the current credit score. The current ratio between income and...
