Harvard business review vol. 83, no.12, pp. 7483, 2005.] READING BRIEF #2: Dt 2/16/2016 COURSE: ETM 522/622 INSTRUCTOR: Prof. Shimon Shmueli PREPARED BY: Achala Kaushikkar Page 1 of 4 Portland State University ETM 555/655 Winter 2016 ARTICLE OVERVIEW This paper by Christensen, Cook and Hall is a mock up marketing customs and practices that are adopted by several organizations to launch appealing quality products every year in the market. However that fact that most don't make it big despite of magnanimous money and vivid creativity behind its promotion, becomes a mystery with a alarming concern. The mere argumentation by this article revolves around the concept of broken prototype of customer segmentation under marketing, which becomes the reason for the failure of products as they fail to respond to the demanding customer segments. The authors claim that products designed and launched, unfortunately do not accomplish the job, a customer is yearning to get done. It simply can be translated as the products and marketers often solve the wrong problems, improving their products...

...(i) Injection Molding Demonstration Battenfeld HM 40/130 is the machine used in the laboratory session to mold Polypropylene. Thermoplastic materials such as nylon, polystyrene, polythene and polypropylene can be used in a process called injection molding. How injection molding works? 1. The hopper is filled with granules of plastic powder. The hopper stores the material until it is needed. 2. The heater starts heating up the tube until it reaches a high temperature, then a screw thread starts turning. 3. The granules are pushed along the heater section by a motor, which pushes the granules along the heater section. The heater melts the granules until they reach the liquid state. This liquid is then forced under pressure into a mold where it cools down the liquid and solidifies it, which then turns into a shape. 4. The mold then opens and the ejector pins remove the molded part. In one molding cycle, the maximum amount of plastic injection mold that can be injected is called the “shot size”. For best quality, parts must use about 60% to 70% of a machines rated shot size. Larger shot sizes will not allow sufficient melt cushion for packing. Smaller shot sizes produce greater irregularities and loss of precision. The relatively high melting point of polypropylene allows continued use at 104°C. The resin begins to soften at about 121°C. The polymer “Polypropylene” (C3H6)n properties: Property Value Molecular weight of repeat unit 42.08 g/mol...

...A CURE FOR AIDS Abstract This paper contains information from six different articles relating to finding a cure for AIDS. These articles are very similar in results for finding an actual cure for AIDS, but up until this point there is no actual cure for AIDS. However, the information that I have conducted has indicated an antiretroviral treatment that can suppress HIV – the virus that causes AIDS – and the antiretroviral treatment can delay illness for many years. After reading many articles I found that there is many scams out their that are trying to sell a cure for AIDS, so if you have aids don’t fall for these misleading they don’t work. Many people that are infected with this deadly virus don’t even know that they are infected. Many people don’t even develop symptoms after they first get infected with HIV. Others on the other hand tend to get very sick. The person will have flu – like illness within several days even to weeks after they have been exposed to the virus. The infected person will start to complain that they have a fever, headache, tiredness, and enlarged lymph nodes on their neck. These symptoms tend to go away by themselves after a few weeks. . This asymptomatic phase often lasts for years. The progression of this disease can vary among each individual, and this state can last for a few months to more than ten years. A CURE FOR AIDS There is no cure for AIDS or the HIV infection as of today. Although antiretroviral treatment can help suppress HIV;...

...What Are the Causes of Ebola? There is only one cause of Ebola. The cause of Ebola is an infection with the Ebola virus. There are no other causes of Ebola. Causes of Ebola: The Ebola Virus The Ebola virus got its name from a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (previously Zaire), in Africa, where the disease was first acknowledged. Ebola virus is one of two members of a family of RNA viruses known as Filoviridae. There are four identified subtypes of Ebola virus. Three of the four have caused disease in humans: Ebola-Zaire Ebola-Sudan Ebola-Ivory Coast. The fourth Ebola virus subtype, Ebola-Reston, it has caused disease in nonhuman primates (gorillas, chimps ect) but not in humans. The exact origin, locations, and natural habitat of Ebola virus remain unknown; however, on the basis of available evidence, and the nature of similar viruses, researchers believe that the Ebola virus lives in an animal host that is native to the African continent. They continue to search for the exact animal. Just as scientists are unsure of the animal host for the Ebola virus, they are also unsure how an outbreak of Ebola virus occurs. Researchers have hypothesized that the first patient becomes infected with Ebola virus through contact with an infected animal. Causes of Ebola: Transmission Once Ebola virus infects the first human, scientists do know how Ebola virus is spread from human to human. Transmission of Ebola occurs through direct...

Today, I’m going to cover some of them, I’m going to explain the causes of the disorders, the resulting effects of the disorder, and if there is a cure. Sickle cell anemia or SCD is a hereditary disorder (meaning that it is acquired through the parents) and is categorized by the most prominent effect on the body’s production and storage of the a molecule in...

Approximately 97,600 Canadian men will be diagnosed with cancer, and an estimated 39,500 men will die. Further more a staggering statistics shows that an estimated 2 out of 5 Canadians is expected to develop cancer during their lifetimes (40% of Canadian women and 45% of men) and an estimated 1 out of every 4 Canadians is expected to die from cancer (24% of Canadian women and 29% of men). I would say the cancer research dollars should be spent on both prevention and cure for cancer, you can’t really choose from the two because both plays a crucial part in saving lives...

...In the seventeenth century the Scarlet Fever hit England, and the cause of it was unknown to scholars, and doctors alike. Thomas Sydenham was one of the observers of the seventeenth century who documented the affects of the Scarlet Fever, as well as what he thought were appropriate treatments to combat it. Just as many other writers who came before Sydenham, there were many who did not agree with his views on the cause of the Scarlet fever do to difference in opinions on what caused illnesses. In the “Observationes Medicae”, Sydenham documented his finding in order to inform others of what he thought caused the Scarlet Fever, as well as to inform of the treatments that could be used to cure those who were affected by it. ...Genetic makeup increases the risk of Alzheimer’s. Scientists have discovered three mutations of chromosomes one, fourteen, twenty-one that cause early onset Alzheimer’s disease (About Alzheimer’s, Research 1). A heredity trait called familial autosomal dominant or FAD is inherited but only five to ten percent of cases are of this type. Another possible cause of Alzheimer’s disease is aging. Age does not directly cause Alzheimer’s but it does increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Research being done has shown that aging indicates that the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease doubles every five years once older than sixty-five (About Alzheimer’s, Statistics...

...PARTHA BAGCHI (STAMMERING CURE CENTRE)-Is he taking advantage in the name of cure? Dear All, I would like to share my experience at Stammering Cure Centre, Bangalore, India, a centre founded by Mr. Partha Bagchi who claims to cure stammering in two weeks (details of which you can find at (www.stammeringcurecentre.com)) . Before I start I would like to state in no way, I would like to demoralize all those people who attended this centre and believes to be completely cured, I am really happy for those people who have been able to cure themselves after attending his course, it is actually a manifestation that they have accepted their problem, changed their speaking style and controlled the flow of speech. However, I would like to raise some serious questions regarding his claim to cure stammering in two weeks and also the techniques that he uses in his claim for fluency. I attended his center sometimes back and although I practiced daily for few months as he advised, I still suffer from blocking problems and there is occasional fumbling of words, but I control it and this control I have learnt to use even before attending Stammering Cure Centre and it has been strengthened after I met a local speech therapist .Two of the persons who attended the centre and with whom I am in contact have lost faith in Mr. Bagchi’s techniques as they discovered 100 % cure are not possible, but yes they have accepted their problem and is trying to refine the art of controlling their speech. Let...

...skin, inherited from my grandfather. As the exact cause of eczema is unknown, there is no cure yet. My eczema was very severe; I had blisters, cracks, and oozings. At night, the constant itchiness kept me awake, and, in the day, I was often bullied because of my skin. My friends in kindergarten and elementary school were horrified because they thought it was infectious. I always explained to them, but that didn’t calm their fears, so I became a somewhat withdrawn child. Later, I realized that not talking to people would not prevent the problem, so I became optimistic and outgoing. I was also helped by Dr. Sang Hyup Lee, who took care of my eczema and consulted about my worries. He consoled me and told me, “Never feel disappointed about yourself. You have definite strength. You just have to look into yourself and feel confident.” He also complimented me on my patience and self-control. I still have eczema, allergies, and scars, but I don’t...

...purposes that can be used to help with diseases. Even though this may be true, the use of cells from these already dead fetuses is not morally wrong because if they were not to be used, then the cells would have had no use in the world. when a fetus is aborted, there are stem cells that can be used to cure hundreds of people with diseases such as Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis. The use of these cells could cause major developments in medicine and curing diseases that otherwise cause many people to struggle with everyday tasks. Although the use of these cells does not work often, there have been reported cases of stem cells curing widely spread diseases that can cause problems and occasionally even death. “Fetal tissue is used to develop new ways to treat AIDS, spinal cord injuries, diabetes, cancer, and eyesight loss.” (thinkprogress.org) Stem cells from these aborted babies, even though not always successful, can have largely useful medical purposes. They can be used to cure many diseases that can cause health problems and even death. If the cells were not available for use to cure these diseases, the fatality rate for many of them would go up greatly. Since they can cure many medical issues, they should be available for clinical use, but only when specifically approved for the patient and clinic for the particular disease. To go further, the use of stem cells is alright to most people in America, as long as the ethics behind the research and use are not inadequate. “most...
