They say that there are only an estimated 6000 Followers left worldwide and about 10 percent of them may be found in North America. China claims to have wiped them out altogether, while India believes that they can be rehabilitated. Those headlines were from two days ago blaring through my Blue Tooth and YAHWEH alone knows how many of us are left. But after 80 - 100 years of persecution, since the Government’s war on the Followers, we’ve learned how to hide in plain sight. It takes a lot more money living in The Cities than in the communes where I was raised. But after they found our camp, about forty people strong, maybe 34 of us all told were BORNAGAINSAVED. The others were people we’d find on the road hungry, alone, broken; designated appointments from YAHWEH – well after they found our camp . . . well, I’ve been living in cities since then. She may never have envisioned that one day there would be different educational tracks resulting in multiple degrees and disciplines in nursing, each having their own set of criteria for excellence. Associate degree nurse (ADN) and baccalaureate degree nurse (BSN) are the two most common entry level nursing positions. An ADN can be obtained in two or three years whereas the BSN takes four years of education to complete due to additional courses. Another influencing factor are our aging pool RN’s. Our average RN age is 43 and we have many nurses retiring. Half of RN’s are going to be over 50 by age 2010 and the U.S. does not have enough new nurses to replace them (Fox & Abrahamson, 2009). The third influencing factor is that 65% of our nursing graduates come from associate degree programs. This is in itself not a problem, but there are not enough nursing faculty, which must at least have a BSN degree if not an MSN degree to teach nursing. As a professional nurse it is our duty to serve as our patients advocates. They rely on us to do so. Nurses are considered the protector’s of patient’s rights. The American Nurses Association is dedicated to quality nursing and safety of the patients and this comes in the form of advocacy. By creating initiatives that increase awareness both among legislators and the general community, the ANA is able to encourage legislation on vital issues such as safe patient handling and patients' rights. This is how the role of advocate addresses social justice. Championing social justice in the provision of health care is a core attribute of advocacy (Bu, X. & Jezewski M. 2006). The meaning of this core attribute is based on the ethics of justice and reflects the social advocacy model.
