Defining a Business Plan

Johnson and Johnson is a company that has been around for many years. They strive to bring the purest customer satisfaction and at the same time practice ethics, marketing and also stress the importance of missions and vision of the company. Their view of their mission is stated in their CREDO, which is posted in all the building around all Johnson and Johnson buildings. The values that guide their decision making are all implemented in Our Credo. Put simply, Our Credo challenges us to put the needs and well-being of the people we serve first and this is why customer satisfaction is very important to Johnson and Johnson.

Johnson and Johnson was established in 1886 in New Jersey. It has employed 114,000 people worldwide and had engaged in the manufacture and sale of a broad range of products in the health care field in many countries of the world. The ethical values of Johnson and Johnson are outlined in their “Our Credo” one page document. Just before Johnson and Johnson became a publically traded company in 1943, the long time chairman crafted the “Our Credo.” It simply challenges Johnson and Johnson to put the needs and well-being of the people they serve first. In the one page document, Johnson and Johnson addresses the responsibilities to their consumers, products, community, stockholders, and employees. Like many businesses Johnson and Johnson’s main responsibility is the customers. It states “in meeting their needs everything we do must be of high quality. We must constantly strive to reduce our costs in order to maintain reasonable prices.” I believe this is one of the qualities that has kept Johnson and Johnson around for so long and made the organization as successful as it is today. Customers should always be the main focus of any organization; after all they are the main point of profit. Throughout the course I plan to research more into this “Our Credo” document and see if Johnson and Johnson lived up to these statements.

Having the personal experience working for Johnson and Johnson Vision Care Inc., I can say that when it comes to their product they are efficient to exceed the customer’s expectations. Every contact lens that they manufactured and shipped through their distribution center had their logo, which meant that this product was researched correctly, packaged correctly and is going to be distributed correctly. Since Johnson and Johnson has been around for a very long time, they strive on perfection and quality performance from their employees. The reason Vistakon strives for perfection is because they believe they put the time and the effort to train these individuals that are working for them and they also have the most advanced technology when it comes to providing the customer’s their products. This goes to show many individuals that when receiving a product that is manufactured by Johnson and Johnson, they know that they are getting top of the line product and this is why Johnson and Johnson has been very successful throughout the years.

One of the more appealing factors of this particular company is their diversity in culture. Vistakon is very diverse and multicultural. Since they are spread throughout 250 different locations and covering 57 countries, they understand the importance of having a multicultural environment. It is very important to have this type of working environment in order to know how other countries operate and for instance their customs as to how they function on daily basis. This type of tactic can be beneficial when it comes to negotiations with other countries by knowing how their culture is. Also diversity brings innovative ideas form other forms of life that many people would not have thought of. From the research that has been conducted on Johnson and Johnson, one can say that when it comes to business side of how they operate and how they diversify themselves, they are achieving something not many companies have achieved and that’s knowing how to conduct business on numerous other levels.

The vision, mission and values of Johnson and Johnson are very important. Their vision is very clear that they have conducted good business throughout the years and that they are highly respected in the market world and in the society (worldwide) as well. One thing that’s very impressive about this company is that they care about their company as a “whole”. What this means is that they have created “sustainability measures” chart showing how well have they improved their image but also how they have improved many peoples lives by implementing different variety of changes throughout the company. One change that will catch someone’s eye is that they have completely banned smoking around Johnson and Johnson grounds. We all know how harmful cigarettes are and how many people die each year from smoking. This shows you that since their field of expertise is medicine, they also practice this while at work. Amazing how a company can be so carrying to implement such rule and surprisingly, according to the chart, their numbers of smokers have dropped in the last 3 years, WOW! Seeing that their mission is to better lives outside of work but also improving health of their own employees tells you something about this company.

When talking about customers and how Johnson and Johnson treat its customers, one can say that they are the top priority for this organization. The Credo states that the customers are number one and nothing else comes in front of them. Now they have done things in the past and now where they send surveys with their products and asking the customers opinion on how the product has benefited or not benefited them. Another thing that’s very interesting is that Johnson and Johnson makes “sample” products (contact lenses) and the doctors office orders these sample lenses for the customers to try and see if that’s the type of lens they would like to purchase. This shows that customer is very important to them and they are willing to do whatever it takes in order to make their customer’s satisfied with a Johnson and Johnson product.

In conclusion, Johnson and Johnson is a very established company that practices efficiency as their Credo states. Their most important value to the company is the customer of course but also they respect their workers and want what is best for them by implementing rules that will change their lives. Having the diversity throughout the companies around the world will carry this company for a very long time.
