1. Purpose: To demonstrate something to your audience by making, doing, or repairing something. You will not simply inform us about something, but rather show us the entire process by actually doing it. 2. Developmental Skill: To gain experience speaking before a group, utilizing the correct outline format, supporting the main steps through demonstration, description, and explanation. In addition, provide specific reasons for doing something the way you do it. 3. Time: 4-6 minutes. Four point deduction for every thirty seconds short or over. 4. Grading: 200 total possible points. (Presentation-120 points, outline-80 points, v 5. Presentation: You may bring note cards up with you. These note cards are called a key word outline. In other words, as opposed to having your full sentence outline, you utilize only key words to help jog your memory. The key word outline should be made after practicing your speech so that you know where you may need to jog your memory during the course of the speech. Your key word outline will should also be derived from your full sentence outline to keep symmetry between the two. Do not use a full sentence outline while speaking since it is difficult to locate what you need and the tendency is to read up there instead of talk to us. Certain things can be written out for accuracy such as quotations, definitions and your introduction and conclusion. 6. Outline: A complete sentence outline that is typed is required to be turned into the instructor before you speak. Organization and completeness are essential aspects of the outline and are what the grading is based on for the outline. Examples of outlines follow. 7. Visual Aids: Visuals are usually inherent to the demonstration speech. In order for you to make, do, or repair something, you need to have the object that you are demonstrating. So for the most part, ingredients, materials, models, or even you make up the visual aids. If you would like to enhance your speech with an additional visual such as a poster board etc. with directions, recipes, etc. that would be helpful. Just remember to follow the dos and don’ts that we cover in class. 8. Other Stuff: Remember that you are the expert or authority on your topic. Your audience may have no idea, some idea, or even by highly aware of your topic, so make sure to be as clear as possible so the audience can follow the presentation easily. Principles that will help the flow of your speech include organization method (usually chronological for demonstration speeches), vocal variety, transition statements, good directions and explanations, and a pleasant, friendly, and lively delivery so that listeners will be receptive to you and your message. When you are excited about what you are talking about, your listeners will be too. OUTLINE TO DEMONSTRATE OR INFORM
I. Introduction A. Attention-getter gains and captures the attention of your audience. This is a very important component of your speech as it is your opportunity to draw them in with something “catchy” yet pertinent and appropriate to your topic. Some different examples of attention getters include a story, quotation, illustration, a question etc. It is the first thing that you say.

B. Thesis Statement is where you simply state your topic. In one brief sentence tell your audience the purpose of focus of the speech. For example: Today I am going to show you how to effectively pack for your next vacation.

C. Fairhearing or Significance is why it is important for your audience to listen to you. What do you have to offer your audience? Some people may not have an immediate interest in your topic, so you need to tap in to some ways that you can appeal to them. How will this speech benefit them? One way of doing this is by appealing to their basic needs or any other of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs that we will discuss in detail. At this point of your speech you should also be sure to show your expertise or experience with your topic.

D. Overview is a preview of your major steps, points, parts etc. of your speech. State your main points clearly and simply. Do not include any other information at this point, save that for the body of the speech. Simply preview only the main points of steps that you will discuss. Prepare your audience for what is coming and provide a roadmap.

II. Body A. First main point or step one 1. supporting material/specific details 2. further information B. Second main point or step two 1. supporting material/specific details 2. further information C. Third main point or step three 1. supporting material/specific details 2. further information D. Fourth main point and so on…..

III. Conclusion A. Review is a restatement of your main points or steps that you just covered in the body of your speech. Simply state the main points just as you did in the overview. This helps the audience remember what you covered. So essentially, you tell the audience what you are going to tell them, you then tell them, and then you tell them what you told them.

B. Finality is when you provide closure to your speech. You want your audience to know that you are ending your speech, provide them with a sense of closure accomplishment. Utilize a lot of the same methods here as in the attention getter like a story, a quote, or tie in your finality with your conclusion by perhaps answering a question that you asked.

All topics must be “OK’d” by the instructor. This will help to eliminate any duplicate topics and also to ensure that your speech is indeed a demonstration speech as well as appropriate for a collegiate audience. In addition, I may be able to provide some insight or suggestions to enhance the speech. Obviously, we all must use common sense and professionalism when selecting topics and what to bring on campus. There is to be no alcohol, live animals, weapons, etc. If you have a question or concern about something, please do not hesitate to ask me. Your topic card or paper that you turn in should look like the following:

2. Thesis Statement:

3. Overview:

Purpose: Below are various methods of beginning and concluding your speech. A large part of having an effective introduction is capturing your audience’s attention, making clear to them what your topic and purpose is, giving them reasons to listen to you, and being organized. In your conclusion you want to leave a good lasting impression. This exercise is designed to help you identify these elements and to give you some examples.

Directions: Please follow the specific directions that follow:

1. Capital letter “A”, “B”, “C”, and “D”: When you see a blank line and any of these capital Letters, write in the appropriate element of the speech. It may be the attention-getter, the thesis statement, fairhearing, overview, review or finality. 2. Small letter “a”, “b”, “c”, and “d”: “a”: What attention-getting technique is being used? Is it novelty, suspense, rhetorical question, story, hypothetical illustration, factual illustration, quotation, startling statement of fact, or opinion?

“c”: What realm(s) of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is used?

“d”: What type of organization method is used? Is it Chronological (time), Spatial (space), or Topical (topic)? 3. Conclusion “e”: What type of ending is used? Is it a quotation, illustration, story, or tying it to the attention-getter?

Purpose: For students to show their understanding of the basic elements used in a demonstration or informative speech. It is also an opportunity to work cooperatively and constructively in a group.
Participants: Groups of 4-6.
Directions: Prepare by selecting a simple topic that you can do with the materials that you have with you to use. As a group, select one topic. Work together in creating the speech utilizing the correct speech outline that was given to you earlier. Once you have written out the speech, assign the different parts to group members. Every group member must speak in the presentation. Please label each part of the speech. So in other words, whoever is starting, they will say this is our attention getter and then proceed. Please label each part (thesis, fairhearing, preview, body, review etc.) as you go through the speech. We are only labeling the parts for the group speeches, you do not do this in your regular demonstration speeches. Then you will have some time to practice your parts and iron out your presentation. Have fun and be creative!

Accounting Accounting is the process of recording, classifying, reporting, analysing, interpreting and communicating of financial information to the stake holders. Accounting is the combination of all the 6 fields while bookkeeping is only a part of the accounting process. Double Entry System According to this system, every business transaction has a two-fold effect and that it affects two accounts in opposite directions. One of the two aspects is the benefit receiving aspect or “incoming aspect” (termed as Debit) and the other is the benefit giving aspect or “outgoing aspect” (termed as Credit). For every transaction, one account is to be debited and another account is to be credited in order to have a complete record of the transaction. The basic principle under this system is that for every debit, there must be a corresponding and equal credit and for every credit there must be a corresponding and equal debit. Following this principle, the arithmetical accuracy of the accounts can be checked by preparing a Trial Balance, where the total of Debits and Credits should tally. It is a scientific system maintaining a complete record of transactions which helps in the ascertainment of profit/loss and financial positionof the business while maintaining the accuracy of accounts Accounting Cycle The entire accounting cycle is based on the double...

...Today’s data centers house a large number of diverse bandwidth devices including bladed servers, clustered storage systems, virtualization appliances and backup devices all interconnected by networking equipment. These devices requires physical cabling with an increasing demand for higher performance and flexibility, all of which require a reliable scalable and manageable cabling infrastructure. Challenges arise not only with trying to research data center cabling offerings in order to determine what you need for today and for future growth , but also with evolving cabling industry guidance which sometimes lags in the race to deliver standards for deploying technologies such as 10 Gbit/sec data transmissions and beyond . He told me that they will have it next month in their warehouse. The previous lot was contaminated, and was returned for purification. Antoine Why didn’t they tell us before? Ernest the technical expert had called the lab technician that had requested the product. I was not aware there was an issue. ...Simulation Review Craig W. Pasanen HSC/405 April 16, 2013 Todd Brown Phase 1: Capital Shortage Elijah Heart Center (EHC) is a 140 bed facility that specializes in cardiac care, located in New York. It has fallen on hard times even though patient volume and profits are increasing quickly, however the profit margin is falling. The Chief Executive Office of ECH would like to reduce cost by $900,000 in one year. The author of this paper would recommend a few possible way of making this happen. The first step taken was to reduce agency staff personnel. Staffing agencies were created to provide health-care providers with talented health-care professionals to fill their demanding and challenging openings ("White Coat Medical Staffing", 2013). The main reason this was chosen was due to salary. Agency worker’s salaries are often twice that of a regular staff member. This move alone saved ECH over 2.4 million dollars in salaries and benefit for the agency workers. The second cost cutting step was to changing the skill mix; this was achieved by hiring nursing assistants at an average salary of $26,609 a year versus a registered nurse who makes $69,123 ("Salary.com", 2013). This resulted in an overall saving of 1.4 million dollars. So just by adjusting the staff ECH was able to save roughly 3.8 million dollars. In order to fund the changes it was decided that a loan needed to be secured. Loan options were presented and the decision was made to pick...

...Automation is the use of control systems and information technologies to reduce the need for human work in the production of goods and services. In the scope of industrialization, automation is a step beyond mechanization. Whereas mechanization provided human operators with machinery to assist them with the muscular requirements of work, automation greatly decreases the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Automation plays an increasingly important role in the world economy and in daily experience. Automation has had a notable impact in a wide range of industries beyond manufacturing (where it began). Once-ubiquitous telephone operators have been replaced largely by automated telephone switchboards and answering machines. Medical processes such as primary screening in electrocardiography or radiography and laboratory analysis of human genes, sera, cells, and tissues are carried out at much greater speed and accuracy by automated systems. Automated teller machines have reduced the need for bank visits to obtain cash and carry out transactions. In general, automation has been responsible for the shift in the world economy from industrial jobs to service jobs in the 20th and 21st centuries.[1] Movable type is the system of printing and typography that uses movable components to reproduce the elements of a document (usually individual letters or punctuation). The world's first known movable-type system for printing was created in China around 1040 A.D. by Bi...

...Fatoumatta Jaiteh ENGL 1312: Section 2 Dr. West-Fort October 1, 2013 A Response to "BARBIE Q" by Sandra Cisneros "Barbie Q!" I did not understand the title of the story at first but to my understanding, i thought the writer wanted to use the word "Barbie" instead of "Barbeque" to make it look "posh" and feminine. As we read the story in class, i got a better and deeper undstanding of the whole moral of the story and why she used the word "Barbie". When i saw "Titties" pg (339) i was like "wow," the writer is bold and no wonder they banned it. It seemed like two girls were playing with the dolls and making remarks about their dresses and comparing how glamorous they look. We were all kids at some point so i get that. These barbie dolls send negative messages to the children of today. When kids play with them, they tend to know about make up, boyfriend, the glitz and the glam etc at an early stage. Yes i understand it's good for a female to look good but not at age 3. You can look good for yourself. Some females are more secure when they wear make up some are not. I won't call myself a "feminist" but i stand and support womens rights. These kids might want to look like barbie at some point. Well, it's already happening e.g "Toodlers & Tiara's" is a perfect example of how mothers of today teach their kids to believe that if you do not wear tons of hair, jewelry, exposing dresses, heels & make up, you are not beautiful enough and society will not appreciate your natural...

...How life has changed. A 1994 poll found more than half the children questioned said they were afraid of violent crime against them or a family member. Are these kids just paranoid, or is there a real problem?Visitors to this site who read the newspaper or follow the news on radio and television will have no trouble realizing that there is a link between conflict and violence. On the day this paper was written, we in the Washington, D.C. area were obsessed with a sniper who had killed nine apparently randomly selected victims in the preceding two weeks, a foiled suicide bomb attack in Israel, and the United States government's ongoing preparation to launch a war against Iraq. Additional insights into violence are offered by Beyond Intractability project participants. Not all intractable conflicts involve violence, and even for those that do the violence is not necessarily constant. Thus, in mid-2002, there was little or no fighting in Bosnia or Burundi and had not been for some time. Nonetheless, violence is often a part of intractable conflicts at one point or another in their histories. Not all violence is part of an intractable political conflict. For instance, there have been no hints of political motivations lying behind the sniper attacks in the Washington region. However, much violence in today's world is political; indeed, depending on the estimates one believes, it took in excess of 100 million lives around the world during the twentieth century. Violence...

...Democracy No country is ruled by pure democracy, because it can only be practiced in a Socialist nation. Some nations claim to be socialist, but none are. n the Philippines, some mediocre thinking Filipinos are fed up with an illusion that after the Marcos Administrations through a woman whom they call “icon of democracy” in the Philippines – which is late former Philippine president Ms. Corazon Aquino, the Philippines has now become purely democratic country; whereas it is not. Actually, the Philippines still remain republic just like the times of Marcos, but what has happened only or have changed after Marcos administration is the increased of freedom of people to do whatever they wanted to do including the relentless and useless killings of everyone against their fellow Filipinos, most especially the media people, though the media people have gain more freedom to express their ideas and thoughts, murderers and killers have gain also more freedom to kill media people. It is a directly proportional freedom. Democracy means rule of the people. The two most common forms of democracy are direct democracy and representative democracy. In direct democracy everyone takes part in making a decision, as in a town meeting or a referendum. The specific rules may vary: perhaps everyone must agree, perhaps there must be consensus, perhaps a mere majority is required to make a decision. The other, better known form of democracy is a representative democracy. People elect representative to...

This library efficiently utilizes multiple processors within Windows Azure roles, where the size of the Virtual Machine instance is greater than Small (i.e. where there are multiple processors available). Additionally, the demo shows how to scale-out applications taking advantage of Technical Computing across multiple role instances, using a Job scheduling algorithm. The work is distributed to all the available instances, maximizing the CPU processing of each. Travelling Salesman demo is using a “genetic” algorithm to quickly solve the problem that would ordinarily require very many conventional interactions to solve. The problem and its real–life applications are widely documented (for example, see http://www.tsp.gatech.edu/index.html). The algorithm used in this demo was taken from http://www.heatonresearch.com/online/introduction–neural–networks–cs–edition–2/chapter–6...

But what is communication? Communication is a form of passing information from one person to the next and one place to another by acknowledging the senders intent. Comprehending the message, and acting upon it to create a shared understanding. We communicate sometime without even knowing it. There are different forms of communication. There is no verbal, verbal, and non-written communication. We communicate by the tone of our voice, our body language, facial expressions, and so forth. Communication Communication starts with the person who is going to send the message. In order to ensure that their message is received the sender must make sure that their message is clear and correct. The sender can do this by making sure they use the proper grammar, noun sequence, and punctuation. This is key because if the sender uses the wrong words, or speak to fast or slow, this will affect if the message is received clearly. The message itself has to be clear and coherent because if not the medium that the message is sent through might become understandable. If a letter is being used to deliver the message make sure that the ink is clear and not smudged, make sure your words are legible, make sure they are not rips or anything that will affect the receiver’s ability to read and understand...
