Have you ever gone to a school so big, you get lost in the process of walking to your next class? Hillsborough High School was established in 1885, had 7 home before it landed at its current home, and had a Gothic Revival style of architecture built by Francis Kennard in 1927.
You’re walking down Central Ave, on your way to Starbucks to grab a tall caramel Frappuccino, and you pass by a stunning castle-like building made out of hundreds of crimson red bricks that were strategically placed for the pleasure of the viewer. The clock tower has a bronze plaque under it and was placed in memory of 143 students: though only 139 of those alumni students that died in World War II made the list. You see a couple emerald palm trees scattered around the building, swaying from left to right as the wind blows calmly and you feel at ease as you inhale the smell of the freshly cut grass. You walk up the sidewalk and notice the aged portico and huge old style coal-tinted double doors, you walk up three short steps and through first door: you will be standing in a staircase that leads up to the fourth floor. Strayer suggested that a Gothic architectural style be used for the school, and it spark the interest of the school superintendent so vividly that in 1925 land was purchased for the eighth and final home for Hillsborough High School located at 5000 Central Avenue. On January 28, 1927 Francis Kennard designed the Gothic Revival plans and huge red bricked building: the corner stone was laid.
