...Week 2 iLab Report DeVry University NETW360: Wireless Technologies and Services ANTENNA TYPES AND COMPUTE RF BEHAVIOR Submitted to: Professor Date: 1/18/14 Antenna Types Directions: Provide the basic differentiating characteristic of each of the three antenna types listed below. Also provide that typical use of the antenna type. 1. Omnidirectional: The basic differentiating characteristic of an omnidirectional antenna is that it radiates its signal out equally in all directions depending on the antenna’s orientation. If the antenna is placed vertically the signal will radiate horizontally equally in all directions and if the antenna is placed horizontally the signal will radiate vertically equally in all directions. Omnidirectional antennas have 360 degree coverage, but not completely equally in all directions as I will discuss next. The omnidirectional antenna is most commonly used in a vertical position so that it can radiate most of its signal outwardly in horizontal streams on both sides of its location, however a small part of the signal will radiate up and down vertically. Although, it is most commonly used in the vertical position, an omnidirectional antenna can also be used in a horizontal position to radiate most of that signal vertically (up/down) with a small portion of the signal radiating sideways (horizontally). The reason for this mismatch of signal strength due to the vertical/horizontal placement of the antenna is because the signals...

...Name: Joy Murphy Exam Number: 25010400 * Directional selection occurs when natural selection favors one extreme of continuous variation. Over time, the favored extreme will become more common and the other extreme will be less common or lost. If thicker-shelled oysters are more resistant to breakage than thinner-shelled oysters, crabs will be less able to prey upon them, and thicker-shelled oysters will be more likely to survive to reproduce. * Stabilizing selection occurs when natural selection favors the intermediate states of continuous variation. Over time, the intermediate states become more common and each extreme variation will become less common or lost. Continuing the oyster example, very light-colored or very dark-colored oysters might be more frequently preyed upon by shore birds, simply because they are more obvious on the oyster bar; as a result, the intermediate hues become more common. * Disruptive selection occurs when natural selection favors both extremes of continuous variation. Over time, the two extreme variations will become more common and the intermediate states will be less common or lost. Disruptive selection can lead to two new species. This might happen in shallow water among rocks. Light-colored oysters are more cryptic (less easy for a predator to see) because they match the rock color. Dark-colored oysters blend into the shadows cast by the rocks. In this case, intermediate-colored oysters would be most heavily preyed upon by the crabs...

...Strategy defined What is strategy? The Oxford Dictionary describe strategy as A plan of action designed to achieve a long-term goal or overall aim; or the art of planning and directing overall military operations and movements in a war or battle; It is derived from the Greek word “stratégia” that means generalship (Oxford dictionary. 2015). A company’s strategy consist of the competitive moves and business approaches that managers are employing to grow the business, attract and please customers, compete successfully , conduct operations and achieve the targeted levels of organizational performance (Hough et al. 2008:4). Strategy is all about how the anticipated goals will be achieved. It works like a recipe where different elements are used in a more or lesser manner to achieve an end result. In an organisation the leader ensures all members are heading in the right direction and completing their goals and objectives. Organisations lacking leadership quickly implode as members scatter in all directions attempting to achieve conflicting goals in a silo-orientated environment. However, this can be overcome if leaders communicate and execute business strategies. A business strategy is a leadership plan that achieves a specific set of goals or objectives such as: * Developing new products or services. * Entering new markets. * Increasing customer loyalty. * Attracting new customers. * Increasing sales. * Decreasing costs. (Baltzan, 2013:16) Leaders also...

Furthermore, Riordan has several locations, which can be used to implement production efficiencies, which lower costs. To identify opportunities, the organization holds a comprehension market study to gain knowledge and establish directional tactics. One thing Riordan did not mention was that none of the locations had Material Safety Data Sheets, which would include the hazards of handling certain chemicals and how to clean up chemicals if ever spilled or contacted to the eyes or skin. Organizations are built with the goal of the profitability through process in mind. The organization control approach incorporates goals and strategy used to reach them. (Boundless.com Jul 2015) Using their mission statements, top managers do strategic planning to determine what the organization long-term goals should be for the next 1-5 years with the resources they expect to have available. Strategic management is a level of managerial activity bellowing setting goals and above tactics. (Boundless.com 2015). Strategic management provides overall direct to an enterprise. The MCA has been dedicated to displaying, collecting and interpreting contemporary art since it first opened its doors to the public in November 1991 (MCA, 2014). The beginning of the MCA was due to an Australian artist, John Power, who left his fortune to the University of Sydney when he passed away. The University of Sydney, on Power’s request, used this money to educate and inform Australians about contemporary art. This eventually led to the NSW Government donating the old Maritime Services Board premises to the cause. This location is where the MCA remains today. The following paper will analyse critical elements involved in the MCA’s strategic operations. Beginning with the mission, goals and objectives, followed by an external environmental analysis and an internal capability analysis. The majority of the paper will discuss proposed strategies and finally required resources. ...GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF ANY STRATEGY IS AN ILLUSION. DISCUSS 1.0 INTRODUCTION Every business organisation exists for the purpose of fulfilling certain goals and objectives as outlined by them. The fulfillment of these goals and objectives may bring benefits to the organisation and to various stakeholders such as shareholders, customers, the general public, the government, etc. In order to implement these goals and objectives in a systematic and orderly manner, management must evolve a game plan to do this. This game plan is known as strategy. According to the Oxford Pocket Dictionary, strategy is defined as “the art of war especially, the planning of movements of troops and ships into favourable positions, plan of action or policy in business” Scholes & Johnson (2001) also define strategy as “the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term; which achieves the advantage for the organisation through its configuration of resources within a changing environment, to meet the needs of the markets and to fulfill stakeholder expectations” Thompson & Strickland (1998) also generally define strategy as competitive moves of business approaches to produce successful performance. It is management’s game plan for: * running the business * strengthening the firm’s competitive position * Satisfying customers * Achieving good business performance * Position a company in its chosen market In effect, without strategy the shaping of an organisations...

...Make vs. Buy Revisited Reassessing your company’s manufacturing strategy M ake or buy? The classic manufacturing question still has no easy answer. Amid signs of demand recovery, but with capital still limited and resources thinned by restructuring, top executives today are revisiting the issue. To come to the right make-or-buy decision, leading companies resist the temptation to “feed the beast.” Instead of focusing only on short-term gains, these leaders keep their long-term strategy and corresponding core competencies in mind. They adopt a clearly defined manufacturing strategy, and then adopt the right tactics that can lead to smart decisions and a competitive advantage. The trade-offs between making a product inhouse and buying it externally are well known to most senior executives. The “buy” approach— a manufacturer purchasing a necessary part from an outside source—frees up resources, reduces capital demands, increases flexibility and improves returns on capital employed, but in a tough market companies may seek to avoid potential quality concerns and supply risks. On the other hand, a “make” approach—developing and building that same necessary part internally—enables the company to utilize available internal capacity, absorb fixed costs and protect intellectual property, but it can lead to unnecessary complexity and divert time and attention away from highervalue activities. Choosing “make” simply because the capacity already exists, or “buy”...
