...467 10/2/2015 Effects of drunk driving on teens and adults In 2011 over 1.2 million people were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol. Driving while under the influence is most seen in 21 to 25 years old. I found this information to be interesting because are demographic has a high tendency to drive while being under the influence of alcohol. I’m more interested in the effects of drunk driving on teens and adults because it is something that affects anybody who drives an automobile now a days. There is something you should know about driving under the influence. One of out every three Americans on the road has been involved in an alcohol related car crash sometime in their life time. Those are really bad odds looking at the fact that most Americans are on the road for at one hour per day. I’m very interest to learn more about the effects of driving under the influence on teenagers and adults. Most people who drive under the influence don’t actually realize the harm they can actually cause until the minute after the accident has happened. Most drunk driving incidents can be avoided with just a simple phone call. What drunk drivers don’t seem to understand is they are endangering not just their own life but everyone on the roads with them. For example, “In 2013, a total of 1,149 children fourteen and younger were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes. Of those 1,149 fatalities, 200 (17%) occurred in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Out of those 200...

...bI feel that driving while intoxicated or drunk it is extremely dangerous and drivers with and increased blood alcohol content are more likely to cause accidents, highway injuries, and even vehicular deaths. Every single injury or death caused by these accidents are all preventable. It is amazing how almost twenty percent of all traffic related fatalities are caused by a drunk driver. I feel that this is a problem on the national level that affects thousands of families each year, and unless the problem gets fixed, it will only increase every year. I feel that a person who has been drinking decides to get behind the wheel of an automobile, not only are they putting their own lives in jeopardy, but the lives of fellow passengers, motorists, and pedestrians. They are risking their lives and most of the time does not even realize it. Alcohol intoxication causes ones reflexes and judgement to slow down and become inadequate to drive. At times I feel that driving while intoxicated or drunk it is extremely dangerous and drivers with and increased blood alcohol content are more likely to cause accidents, highway injuries, and even vehicular deaths. ...blood alcohol level was between 0-100mg (journals.) Out of 4307 fatal crashes, 1121 had a connection to alcohol consumption, 1600 had a connection to speeding and 589 were the result of a combination of alcohol consumption and speeding (6). A 2015 study showed correlations between physical health and the occurrence of car accidents; the study results determined that individuals who had poor physical health had a higher probability of being involved in a car accident, this result was influenced by other outcomes of having poor physical health, as individuals with poorer physical health were less attentive while driving and had a higher tendency to miss stop signs (7). The 2015 study also determined that heart failure was a result of physical inactivity; therefore individuals who had poor physical health were identified as a potential at-risk population for unsafe driving (7). With increased road danger there has been a decrease in the popularity of bicycling and walking as modes of transportation; the decrease in physical activity contributes to the obesity epidemic (13). Drugs are another risk taking behaviour that increase the risk of road accidents; marijuana users are 25% more likely to be involved in a car accident and drugs are involved in approximately 16% of all car accidents (14). Risk taking behaviours, particularly alcohol consumption, drug usage and physical health heighten the frequency of road traffic accidents. Biological factors have an impact on risk taking behaviours...

...TARA – 14th Annual Roads Convention Proceedings, November 17, 2011 The Practicability of Blood Alcohol Concentration Test & Drunken Driving in Tanzania Authors: Address: Emails: Key Words: Gilliard W. Ngewe & Batholomew Marcel National Institute of Transport ngeweg@yahoo.co.uk : batholomewm@yahoo.com Alcohol intoxication, blood alcohol concentration, breathe alcohol content, central nervous system, correlation coefficient, drug, drunken driving, enforcement mechanisms and impaired driving Abstract Beverage alcohol is widely enjoyed the world over in countless different settings and by a great many people. It is well recognized that irresponsible drinking patterns coupled with certain behaviors, such as driving, may bring about a range of harmful outcomes. Accordingly, many countries agree on the need to establish regulations that prohibit impaired driving, particularly as it applies to the operation of automobiles on public roads. The setting of maximum allowable Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level is a tool for enforcement and for prevention. The offense of driving with a BAC above the legal limit is variously known as “Driving under the Influence” (DUI), “Driving While Intoxicated” (DWI), “drink – driving” or “drunken driving” among other similar names. The most common method of determining BAC is by measuring the alcohol in an exhaled sample of breath. However, there are claims that breath alcohol levels do not reliably mirror blood alcohol levels, in response certain...

...The social issue I picked to write on is drunk driving, which in today’s society has become a huge issue. Back when I started driving, drunk driving was not looked upon the same as it does today. People who were involved in an alcohol related crash or accident were usually not punished like they are today. Along with that driving under the influence carried a well less penalty then it does today. Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous things you can do. There is a mass of information out there on how alcohol affects your body pertaining to driving. Excessive drinking has become a bigger problem in today’s world not only with college kids but with older people to. For example according to Tara Parker Pope (2012) “New research shows that four times a month, one in six Americans goes on a drinking binge, knocking back an average of eight alcoholic beverages within a few hours.” Society’s views on drunk driving have changed a lot due to awareness of it and the effects it has on people and families. It affects society in a huge way with the fact that a lot of people die every year from being hit or hitting someone else in a drunk driving accident. Every year thousands of people are involved in an alcohol related accident, which effects many people from their family and friends to the people they got in an accident with. Drunk driving as a whole effects the whole society, at some point in your life you will of known someone who either was seriously hurt...

...Outline for Persuasive speech Introduction and attract audience: Start questions by asking classmates "how many people drink alcohol" and "how many people drive when they are drunk" to get everyone's attention and leads out what I am going to talk about, to persuade people not drunk driving. Body: Part 1: Provide some statistic for audience that shows drunk driving is really dangerous. New research released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that 32,885 people died in traffic crashes in 2010 in the United States, including an estimated 10,228 people who died in drunk driving crashes, accounting for 31% of all traffic deaths last year .More than two-thirds of the 10,228 drunk driving deaths (7,145 or 70 percent) involved drivers with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 or higher. And statistic also shows that in 2010, more than three people were killed in drunk driving fatalities for every 100,000 Americans. 30 percent of us will be involved in a drunk driving accident in our lives. Every 45 minutes, someone will be killed by a drunk driver. And at least 50 percent of drunk drivers will continue to drive drunk after having their licenses suspended. Part 2: Why should we not drunk driving When an alcoholic drinks, his head is full of lies, and those lies tell me that I'm ok, I'll be able to keep the car between the lines or I won't get caught this time. Quote from Dan Hoge. Drink alcohol make you excited, and if you drink too much which...

...Purpose Statement: The purpose of my speech is to persuade my fellow classmates that if you drink and drive there will be consequences. Intro: I’m sure that most of you have heard the story of Jacqueline Saburido. This was the young lady that was involved in a car accident and practically burned alive due to a drunk driver. She was on her way home from a birthday party with some of her friends. Just then a young 17 yr old boy who was headed home from a party with his friends smashed into her car due to alcohol. Two friends died on the scene and two were rescued, but poor Jacqui was pinned in the front of the car unable to move. The car caught fire in just minutes after the impact. Over sixty percent of her body was burned and to this day she has gone over fifty operations in order to survive. To begin with, I will explain a personal story. Next, the statistics that go along with drunk driving and accident are remarkable. But there are ways that you can help prevent it. I. An incident happened just this year on the night of Halloween. A. Sitting at home that night watching the movie Halloween with my family and girlfriend. 1.Just minutes after the movie ended there was this loud bang out front. It literally sounded like someone had ran into one of our cars in the driveway. We look out the front window and see that across the street there was a Jeep Cherokee that had smashed into a tree. We all ran out to see if everyone was ok and my mom was calling...

...Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results Rolanda Redman HCS/438 July 12, 2015 Sil Di Gregorio Analysis of Newspaper Research Report Results The Chicago Tribune published an article educating readers on the perils of children riding in vehicles of inebriated drivers. The study confirmed that driving under the influence (DUI) related deaths among children reveals the children were riding in the vehicle of the inebriated driver. This recklessness needs to stop before another child pays the consequences of an irresponsible individual. Gregory & Ziezulewicz, (2014) report from 2001 to 2010, 2,344 children under age 15 were killed in crashes involving at least one alcohol-impaired driver. Illinois recorded 42 of those deaths during that time, holds one of the lower rates of child passengers killed in crashes involving impaired drivers. South Dakota had the highest rate. New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts registered the lowest rates. The report reveals of those 2,344 deaths, 1,515 of the children were with impaired drivers. Most of the drivers survived the crashes, while the unrestrained children died. In this writer’s opinion, this article used descriptive statistics to get the point across to the readers. This writer’s thinks the authors of the article are trying to use these statistics as a tragic example of the recklessness of the driver. The authors cited their references but the reader would have to do research to see if the numbers are actually...

...Tax Research Memorandum Date: September 8, 2014 To: John Smith From: Subject: Casualty Losses Summary of Facts John Smith and his girlfriend are at a party. John has several drinks with the understanding his girlfriend will be the designated driver. At the party, the couple has a fight and John’s girlfriend leaves with her friends. Knowing he has had too much to drink, John takes a two hour nap before he drives home. On his way home, he loses control of his vehicle and totals his brand new $50,000 BMW. When the police arrive, they administer a breathalyzer test. John’s blood alcohol level is .12, which is over the .08 limit set by the state. As a result, John receives a DUI. Due to the DUI, his insurance will not pay anything to replace his car. Issue Is John entitled to a casualty deduction for the cost of his car? Law and Analysis IRC §165(a) generally allows a deduction for “any loss sustained during the taxable year and not compensated for by insurance or otherwise.” However, under§165(c), a limitation on losses of individuals is imposed. The deduction is limited to “losses of property not connected with a trade or business or a transaction entered into for profit, if such losses arise from fire, storm, shipwreck, or other casualty, or from theft.” The key term in this deduction limitation is casualty. ...exercise will not make a person more sober; only time will. Mainly on average, an impaired driver will drive 80 times under the influence before their first arrest. Every 53 minutes in America, a life is lost in a drunken driving collision; that is around 27 people every day. As well as every 90 seconds, someone is injured from a drunk driving incident. In 2011, 9,878 people were victims of drunk drivers. 211 children were killed in drunk driving crashes in 2010. Of those 211 children, 62 percent were riding in the car with the impaired driver. Driving while impaired comes from drinking an amount of alcohol that is over the legal limit. Some forms of drinking and driving could occur from some social environments for example if you’re friends encourage you to drink and you not realizing how much you have had to drink go in a car and drive its not entirely your fault you’re judgment was impaired at the time. We live in an age where we have rights and a potential different viewpoint could be if you pay for the car and you’re paying for the alcohol it should be you’re decision to drink and drive as long as you take responsibility for the out come. Will you let your children; a family member or loved ones risk their lives and other peoples as well by driving under the influence? Is it worth it to drive while impaired? ...Automobiles have been a huge part of American society for roughly a century. Unfortunately, many people believe that driving while under the influence of alcohol is a rather safe idea. In fact, in a 2013 study, 28.7 million people admitted to driving under the influence (MADD). This can be closely related to the fact that people do not fear being caught for driving under the influence. In order to stop this, it is up to state and federal legislature to address the problem of drunk driving by imposing stricter laws similar to those of other countries who have far better success. There are many names for driving under the influence. These include driving while intoxicated, drunk driving or impaired driving (The Real Consequences). However,...
