Abstract
Nowadays e-commerce, e-business and financial services industry have increasingly become a necessary component of business strategy and a strong catalyst for economic development. E –banking can provide speedier, faster, and reliable service to the customer for which relatively happy. As a third world developing country, Bangladesh is far behind to reach the expected level in global banking system. So it is our urgent need to upgrade its banking system. This study has been done mainly based on primary and secondary sources of data or information, which included different publications. This paper is aimed at to determine the present scenario of e-banking and banking sectors in Bangladesh and at the same time it demonstrated the scope and benefits of e-banking compared with the existing system. “E-banking” refers to systems that enable bank customers to access accounts and general information on bank products and services through a personal computer (PC) or other intelligent device. Its products and services can include wholesale products for corporate customers as well as retail and fiduciary products for consumers. The main focus of this study is to examine the performance, problems and prospects of E-banking in Bangladesh. The study is descriptive in nature. It reveals that E-banking mostly depends on IT. At present, IT is a subject of widespread interest in Bangladesh. The government has declared IT as a thrust sector. The study recommends that a comprehensive E-banking will be possible only when there will be political commitment with better IT infrastructure, internal network, country domain and, above all, a high speed fiber optic link to the information superhighway.
INTRODUCTION
Internet technology has brought a revolution in our conventional banking system. Now it is an era of electronic banking. E-banking is now a global
