...Introduction to Decision Making Methods János Fülöp Laboratory of Operations Research and Decision Systems, Computer and Automation Institute, Hungarian Academy of Sciences 1. Decision Making Process “Decision making is the study of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision maker. Making a decision implies that there are alternative choices to be considered, and in such a case we want not only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible but to choose the one that best fits with our goals, objectives, desires, values, and so on.” (Harris (1980)) According to Baker et al. (2001), decision making should start with the identification of the decision maker(s) and stakeholder(s) in the decision, reducing the possible disagreement about problem definition, requirements, goals and criteria. Then, a general decision making process can be divided into the following steps: Step 1. Define the problem “This process must, as a minimum, identify root causes, limiting assumptions, system and organizational boundaries and interfaces, and any stakeholder issues. The goal is to express the issue in a clear, one-sentence problem statement that describes both the initial conditions and the desired conditions.” Of course, the one-sentence limit is often exceeded in the practice in case of complex decision problems. The problem statement must however be a concise and unambiguous written material agreed by all decision makers and stakeholders...

...Organizational Behavior (Formative Assessment) (Gaurav Jain - C1259866) Master Of Business Administration teaches students how to become successful, how to work in groups and adjust in the surroundings those are created internally as well as externally. Poster presentation, being the first MBA project, has posed many challenges for our group due to cultural and thinking difference. “Human beings, and only human beings, are biologically adapted for participating in collaborative activities involving shared goals and socially coordinated action plans”(Tomasello, Carpenter, Call, Behne, & Moll, 2005, 676). After forming group, the next challenge to us was selecting an underperforming company. Taking into account the economic crisis, people were affected the most. And retail is a segment, which is very close to the people. Each member of our group was interested in electronic retail segment. This initial motivation for our poster was intrinsic motivation. Although marks and ranking (Extrinsic Motivation) were the factors that motivated us but our initial motivator was our interest. Once we started the work on our presentation, it was the Content approach that motivated us the most throughout the work. As Maslow said that human needs motivates him towards a goal and helps him pursuing the goal, we evident it while working on our presentation. The five basic human needs, as mentioned by Maslow, are physiological, safety, love/belonging, self-esteem and self-actualization. Working...

Our proposal replaces traditional indicators (accounting ratios) with the output of a so-called multinorm analysis. The deviations of each firm from a battery of industry norms (computed by nonparametric quantile regression) are used as input variables for the classifiers. The approach is applied to predict bankruptcy of firms, and tested on a representative data set of Spanish firms. Results indicate that the approach may provide significant improvements in predictive accuracy, both in linear and nonlinear classifiers. Ó 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
